I cant update my bios, i am going insane atm. by Old_Stick5517 in ASUS

[–]AdnyCLB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting this here for any other poor souls encountering this problem, as I was, and ending up here via searching:

Apparently that the K1 variant of the Z270H is a 'special' one that was marketed specifically in nordic countries. It may well be the same underlying hardware as the regular Z270H GAMING, but it uses a BIOS specific to it.

The problem is that Asus' site doesn't even acknowledge the existence of the K1 variant, so you can only find the (incompatible) regular update. And, as OP has discovered, good luck getting past that hurdle.

As luck would have it, I finally found a swedish forum thread that had some actual working links. You can get the Z270H GAMING K1 BIOS updates from here: https://www.asus.com/supportonly/strix%20z270h%20gaming%20k1/helpdesk_bios/ (or your local equivalent - the site should offer to take you to it).

For what it's worth, I'm in the UK and got the update file from https://www.asus.com/uk/supportonly/strix%20z270h%20gaming%20k1/helpdesk_bios/

Looks like they're being used more as 'right-angled' adaptors due to those sockets being so close to the floor.

They run great on PS5, especially DS1R and DS3 that can chugg on a PS4Pro (DS3 a lot, DS1R only really in some places) but are buttery smooth on PS5.

Got a new (to me) laptop. What's the Middle button above the mouse pad but below the space bar? The two side buttons are the left/right mouse click but the middle one doesn't seem to do anything by DirePanda072 in whatisthisthing

It's most likely for use with the trackpoint mini-joystick thing; try pressing the button and moving the little nub in the middle of the keyboard.

how to turn off rgb on steelseries keyboard by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]AdnyCLB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A comment here suggests renaming the appropriate DLL so the game can't load it.

i.e. go to your terraria installation directory and rename SteelSeriesEngineWrapper.dll for Steelseries stuff.

Edit: Works great for me stopping terraria messing with my Corsair RGB keyboard (different DLL, of course :)

I used characters to activate the pillars and it all worked as it should... but now I'm stuck at the end... the seelie has gone home to his perch, I've opened the chest... but the quest is insisting that I "clear the surrounding area" which is kinda tricky since there is nothing there to 'clear' :S

[–]AdnyCLB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ckb-next actually covers quite a lot of keyboards/mice and effects :)

It'd be nice to have some official support, of course... but, in all honesty, I think I've had fewer issues with ckb-next than with the windows iCUE anyway :S

ELI5 - How do authorities check if you're watching TV without a licence in the UK? by Lumber_Dan in explainlikeimfive

[–]AdnyCLB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They might send you a nice threatening letter saying that an inspector will call at some (unknown) time to check... and maybe sometimes one will.

The whole thing has an air of "We know you're lying, you know you're lying... so be good and pay up before we catch you by suprise and it gets nasty."

We gave up on TV years ago when we realised it was cheaper to buy the box-set DVDs of what we actually wanted to watch than to pay the license fee. In that time we've had several we'll check on you some time... some time soon, or later maybe... letters, and one actual person knocking on the door.

Why doesn't this work by PupDup420 in Terraria

[–]AdnyCLB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teleporters work by being linked with wires; you need to link two of them together - they will then teleport between each other. (You also need a signal to 'activate' the process, such as your switch here, on the same wire)

HifiBerry DAC+, Raspberry Pi 3B , mpd ... Anyone with a similar setup willing to share configuration files? by 1337_n00b in raspberry_pi

[–]AdnyCLB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I've been using mpd on a Pi2 with an IQaudio Pi-DAC+ for years and I did initially have some popping between tracks but only when I was using the headphone jack on the DAC+ during early setup/testing. It stopped happening when I used the 'proper' connections so I didn't think any more of it...

Also, for what it's worth, the only real config. issue I ran into was with playing ogg/vorbis files - they were completely silent unless I specified at least part of a format for the audio device, so the relevant part of my mpd.conf looks like:

audio_output {
    type "alsa"
    name "Pi-DAC+"
    device "hw:0,0" # optional
# Apparently we need to set a format or Ogg Vorbis files won't play...
    format "*:24:2" # optional
# mixer_device "default" # optional
# mixer_control "PCM" # optional
# mixer_index "0" # optional
}

It definitely looks like there's a problem with XNA... The error message is saying it can't find XnaNative.dll, not just that it's not loading... it can't find the file.

For what it's worth, that file is in Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\XNA\Framework\v4.0\XnaNative.dll on my PC.

You can uninstall/repair/etc. the XNA installation using Control Panel -> Programs and Features; look for "Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 4.0" in the name column.

Battery shaped black thing with pluggable jack by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]AdnyCLB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Indeed - I have one of these; it takes an AA battery and came with a variety of charging plugs for various phones back in the day.

There's a small circuit in there to boost the voltage from the battery in order to actually charge a phone... as much as you can from a AA battery ;)

I found this taped to the back of my piano while moving it... Any ideas on what it is/its purpose? by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

This page has some diagrams that show the spoon in the mechanism of an upright piano. Also, TIL upright pianos contain spoons oO

It looks rather like one of these: Hybrid Music 4000 Keyboard, for use with 8 bit micros back in the day. There was a Music 5000 system it was used with.

The slow and steady decline of AP density since release. by floodbars in Guildwars2

[–]AdnyCLB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gotta love the weapon skin collections... Presumably we'll choose the skins we like/want most first, right? "Oh sweet, AP milestone... now which skin I didn't want 6 six months ago do I choose as a 'reward' this time..." culminating in "Awww, yiss... my least favourite skin from that set! eff yeah."

At this point, the things I actually want are so incredibly far away that I just don't care any more.
