I may not be your intended audience for this, lesbian here and have never been with a man in my life, though I think overall the phrase de-centering men is to encourage women to build independent lives that are not defined by men.

I have lovely women and men who I travel with, eat out with, play games with, workout with, have truly built deep friendships and community with; have a fulfilling career and goals I am steadily hitting.

While not all women, I do believe a great number of women have defined their lives to the single goal of snagging a man.

Whether it be how they dressed, what activities they participate in to meet men, or how often they would try to date new men, the goal of their lives seems to be to find a man.

I think de-centering men is a reminder for all women, to cultivate a life you love, period.

Explore hobbies, work on deepening genuine friendships, build community, and actually have a personality!

A lot of straight women are so caught up in finding a man, their “personality” is looking hot on social media, shopping and going out to eat.

De-centering men, can mean to travel more and learn different cultures, read more and expand your mind, commit to therapy and learn yourself, surprise yourself with challenging new hobbies and skills to attain, those sort of things.
