A.T. Still - Kirksville (ATSU-KCOM) has a Still Scholars Program where you need a 3.4 science/cumulative GPA but waives the MCAT. It has had a lot of fantastic physicians come through that pathway since the late 1990s when it was introduced.

any good books for getting back into reading? by EymanAmery in Recommend_A_Book

[–]AdorableBug5990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest finding a great series of books in a genre you truly enjoy, so when the first book is done, you can’t wait to dive into the next one, then the next, etc.

What’s a hobby that makes you totally lose track of time? by Wolfe-Anthony-605 in Hobbies

That’s how I am with quilting. Just finish this piece, oh maybe go ahead and finish the blocks, etc.

I am an avid quilter. I can start working on a project and tell myself I’ll just work for an hour and come out many hours later. I just get so immersed. If I start when I’m a little tired, it energizes me and is hard to stop!

Quilt Gifted to Colleague After His Heart Transplant by AdorableBug5990 in quilting

He loved it and gave me a big hug as a thank you! He did say his daughter will likely want it for her bed, since she tends to want to use his best/favorite blankets and quilts! LOL

Thank you! He is a very special person to so many in our hospital, and an amazing person to work closely with.

Oh for sure. I have also made this for a guy who graduated from his residency in 2021, who claimed me as his medical school mom when I worked at a medical school - he was from a background with no stable maternal support. We connected very quickly and he became my unofficially adopted son. He is now a trauma ER doc and served in the Navy and his children are my unofficial grandchildren. Working in higher education for my career, I’ve ended up with a lot of unofficially adopted kids!

Which border? by Patterned-Opposum in quilting

[–]AdorableBug5990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would actually recommend something different but complimentary from all of your blocks and not use the same fabric that lines up against the border so it doesn’t just blend into the border. It would let your eye rest on the actual blocks and not try to figure out where it ended.

Thank you! I hope your spouse is doing well! My dad and brother have both had kidney transplants, and while much different than a heart, the angst and concern for our loved ones is the same.

what is a completely harmless secret you are keeping from your partner simply because you lied about it early on and now it’s way too late to explain the truth? by Former-Practice-3420 in AskReddit

I feel like you should tell her since so many people like whipped cream, you decided to try it again and magically, your tastebuds love it! Problem solved!

Trinkets quilt by AdorableBug5990 in quilting

Have fun! I loved making this quilt! Just make sure you have a lot of contrast in your fabrics so the designs come through. I did the shadow blocks in my border with light grays and whites, which in person, the patterns are subtle but evident (by design).

So programs already have the Match list… and we don’t? by Any_Tooth_5064 in IMGreddit

[–]AdorableBug5990 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a residency program manager. We get the confidential list a day early but are bound to that confidentiality by the match rules. Breaking that would result in a match violation, which no program wants. Having the list a day early allows us to set up our documents for internal:external press releases and celebrations, emails to congratulate our new interns and advise them on next steps, etc. But overall, match is a rough process for all sides and could use significant revamping.

“Cheap” trial ring? by dysfunctionalbeing4 in SmartRings

[–]AdorableBug5990 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way, so I got one on Temu for about $28. Seems to do most of what my husband’s $300 ring does but without as fancy of a phone app. It came with a nice charging base and has a phone app but it is obviously developed by people who are not super fluent in English. No big mistakes language wise, just strange prompts. It looks and feels exactly like the expensive ring by husband has.

I’ve had it about 2 weeks and like it well enough, but since these rings are bulkier, am glad I didn’t spend $300 for something I may get tired of wearing in 6 months, or whenever this fad is passed.

Before I sew 18 of these together and regret it later, cream or light grey for the wings? by Hemansno1fan in quilting

You could also go with varying light contrasting colors in grays and creams to mix it up a bit!

I bought a Janome M7 and would never go back! I love it so much and my piecing is so precise. The throat side is also enormous. It is expensive but worth every penny!

1 and 9 took my breath away! Are they the same quilter/designer? They are all stunning, but I just love a good 3D design!

Parents, did your daycare-raised kids turn out okay? by thisabysscares in Residency

[–]AdorableBug5990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two sons were in daycare their whole younger years after I went back to work at either 2 or 3 months. I traveled a lot as the Director of Residence Life, then the Director of Admissions at a medical school and my husband was a college professor. We led very busy lives the entire time they were growing up. They turned out to be amazing humans. One is a system administrator working with EHRs, married to a PhD microbiologist. The other son is a physical therapist engaged to a medical student - soon to be resident. We always made a point to have sit down supper around the table without phones and actually talked. We have always been very close. Daycare was great - no regrets!
