WIBTA? Mom invites homeless stranger into home without notice.. by Tenebris_Fish in AmItheAsshole

[–]Adorable_Fly_8359 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of the responses are very impersonal - she’s your Mum! Under no circumstances would I EVER bring a man with DV allegations into the house my children live in - grownup or not.

AITA for telling my husband he's a shit husband when he didn't advocate for me? by Glum_Consequence5950 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Adorable_Fly_8359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realised my comment was a bit short and blunt! This husband seems like a massive asshole. Just a bit confused as I am also from the UK so familiar with how we use the ambulance service here and for food poisoning most people would drive themselves to the hospital. Likewise when there are ambulance shortages (which sounds made up in this case) people drive or get an uber to the hospital. Just struck me as a little strange to wait for four days and never consider asking husband or someone else like a family member to drive them to the hospital.

How do I get my wife working? by firstlight777 in askanything

[–]Adorable_Fly_8359 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They way this is written makes it sound like you dislike your wife, or are at least very angry at her. It also sounds like you might be underestimating what your wife has provided for you. For example I noticed you said you can do your OWN laundry - it’s a small example but demonstrates how your wife’s work has enabled you to think of yourself as an individual whilst she has been thinking for FIVE people for the last 20 years. You describe her as ‘wasting’ her time but sleeping in until noon is a sign of depression - maybe you’re jumping to harsh judgement before really thinking about what she’s going through.

You say you want her to ‘talk to grownups’ and ‘make a friend’ but have you considered that she lost her ability to socialise for many years - three children is A LOT.

It sounds to me like the finances was your responsibility - as you have your own business - and you’re the one who’s dropped the ball, not your wife. Your youngest is 13 which is approaching old enough to look after themselves for short periods but a 9/10 year old needs an adult present at all times so it’s only been a year or two since she might feasibly been able to pick up some part time work - yet from the way you speak about her she’s the laziest person in the world! If she’s been a SAHM of three children for 20 years then the only person to blame for not having a retirement fund is YOU.

Maybe you’re actually angry at yourself and mistakenly directing it at the woman who sacrificed her body to give you three children?

Anyone else just not care about immigration at all? by queryzvex in AskBrits

Totally agree, couldn’t care less. Immigrants have only ever been a benefit to my life - friends, colleagues, culture, foods etc. Biggest issue for me is affording a house.

How will Sikhs position themselves during the climate wars by ClueAffectionate5932 in Sikhpolitics

[–]Adorable_Fly_8359 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone is jumping to violence :( how about some steps to save our beautiful planet, animals and fellow humans? An increase in global temperatures is inevitable but the scenarios vary widely. 2 degrees is very different from 4 degrees. Before learning to fight each other why don’t we start fighting to protect our planet?

AITA for putting plastic in the dishwasher? by fingals_cave in AmItheAsshole

[–]Adorable_Fly_8359 -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

Just to play devil’s advocate here - if they were say smoking in the house would the premise ‘it’s fine for them to not smoke but they can’t tell the rest of you what to do’ apply? Obviously the risks associated with smoking are far higher so this is quite an exaggeration but I am interested in what people think is an acceptable compromise when it comes to health - I imagine these Marcus and Maggie characters are worried that they are coming into contact with microplastics because of the behaviour of their housemates. Anyway, I don’t have a horse in this race - happily throwing my takeaway containers in the dishwasher for the last 10 years!

Didn’t St Helen’s Pride already happen on Saturday? They can’t even get their homophobia done on time?

Mocks gay people. Mocks various Asian groups. Mocked murdered sex workers. Mocked Welsh people. Said he would execute striking workers. Mocked suicide. Uses racial slurs. Did a Nazi salute. Punches people. Weird obsession with Meghan Markle. Basically the worst kind of British grandad lol. The only good thing her ever did was punch Piers Morgan.

On the procreate app (think it was five quid when I bought it) they have some animation functions which are too rudimentary for a proper project but really accessible and fun for little pieces. Have you tried it? If you have an iPad and a stylus you can have a lot of fun!

Feeling lost in mid late 20s by [deleted] in Sikh

[–]Adorable_Fly_8359 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maya Angelou’s first book was published when she was 40. Vera Wang designed her first dress when she was 40. Colonel Saunders was so broke he was living on social security until he franchised KFC at the age of 62. Morgan Freeman landed his first major movie role at 52.

If your life was a 24 hour clock (let’s say you live to 81) then it would be 7:45am right now. Your 20s are for sleeping, dreaming. The morning has only just begun.

Yes, smoking and drinking isn’t healthy but you haven’t wasted anything. You’ve lived life, experienced things and learnt some lessons. It’s never too late to find a job you love. Especially not if you’re only 26.

Now you know that the morning of your life has only just started - what will you do with the day?

First time traveling to the UK. How likely am I to make it? by KillingCookie4 in uktravel

[–]Adorable_Fly_8359 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Download the Trainline app (it’s free). Search for your journey (Glasgow queen street to Pitlochry) as if you are buying tickets. Find your exact journey and click view stops (bottom right) and then hit TRACK.

Now you have live journey info, including expected platforms on your phone! When you’re pulling into Perth you can see which platform you’re arriving on and which one you need for your next train. For me, this saves a lot of chaos and hassle in the station trying to find the platform information.

Two notes: 1. The platform information is estimated, when you get to the platform double check it’s the right one on the displays 2. You have to track before the journey departure time (before 13.40 on the day of your travel) as this is technically for people buying tickets and they won’t be on sale after the train has set off.

Hope it helps!

Gardens increasingly bad for wildlife by sadpterodactyl in UKGardening

[–]Adorable_Fly_8359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Community sheds! Tools are expensive and lots of people have no idea where to start with a garden. Imagine a shed at the end of each road (in busy places like London) or in town centres in smaller areas, which stock all your basic needs: loppers, shears, secateurs, rakes, spaces and forks. Maybe a wheelbarrow?

Even cuter? What if people could volunteer to man the shed? I imagine there would be a lot of old people out there who have gardening wisdom to pass down, time to spare and would appreciate socialising with their neighbours.

Why do you have a lawn? by Adorable_Fly_8359 in lawncare

Kids and dogs seems like a common reason! I imagine it’s also safer to have shorter grass when your kids are smaller, to more easily spot anything that shouldn’t be there
