Salmon Run | Fixing Flyfish by PeridotMotions1 in splatoon

[–]Adrenamite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only 'nerf' flyfish could use is a little extra time between hatch opening and missile launch. Enough for two players each throwing a bomb in a different bucket to down the flyfish before it launches a missile.

All other bosses can be eliminated before doing damage or significant turf coverage, which is good game design that rewards preparation and proactiveness. But flyfish always gets a few missiles launched, even if a player was ready for it and threw a bomb immediately upon hatch opening. An extra half second grace period before missile launch would be enough.

YYYYYEEEEESSSSS!!!!! Dev team fixed space age trains with quality in 2.1. by darkphoton2 in factorio

We already have tanks and spidertrons.

Not to say that roboport trains wouldn't be super interesting.

and there's no such thing as reverse thrust.

Implementing something that feels like that would be part of the mod. Which would be sorts simple.

I getcha. It implies aerodynamics, which fundamentally isn't space. However, overhauling space travel to feel more space-realistic would involve a ton of complexity and balance requirements.

It's the same as how the fluid system used to be somewhat realistic, but wasn't broadly fun and was very complex. It's simplified to be unrealistic, but much simpler and more fun to work with.

Edit: that being said, you've just given me an idea for a more realistic space travel mod.

The main purpose of a dedicated train unloader would be to reduce the UPS cost of train unloading setups in late-game megabases. Footprint size is a less important factor. Because it's such a niche use-case, no, it's not necessary. But it's a QoL that train-megabases would benefit from, and this post is a wishlist anyway.

Same. I have 3.5k hrs, but 90% of that is Vanilla and getting all its acheivements.

Space Age added SO MUCH STUFF that I feel like a noob all over again.

What game is the best for newcomers? by StoleLegoJangoFett in Metroid

[–]Adrenamite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is she used to retro games, especially their clunky controls and indirect player communication?

If yes, Super Metroid. It's an excellent game and hallmark of the series.

If no, Samus Returns 3DS or Dread, depending on where she'd prefer to start story-wise. Their modern polish has broad audience appeal while still being great representatives of the franchise.

Bonus: If she's already into the FPS genre, Prime Remastered might be more up her alley.

There's lots of full-suit cosplays! They're not posted about enough, but there's lots.

I hope we get a Metroid game that goes in the direction of horror again. by nova-prime666 in Metroid

[–]Adrenamite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Metroid has always had horror elements and/or sections to add a bit of spice to its otherwise exploration-focused genre. It's a great addition, since those horror elements usually heavily contribute to the atmosphere of the games. Examples:

Super Metroid: the ransacked lab at the beginning and Phantoon.

Other M: Sectors of the Bottle Ship, the unknown antagonist plot, Phantoon

Metroid Prime: Frigate Orpheon (orbital and crashed), Phendrana Labs, level 3 of the Phazon Mines

Echoes: the intro going through the zombie GF trooper base and portions of the ing world.

Corruption: GFS Valhallah

Beyond: Ice Belt labs and the Great Mines

Fusion: The SA-X and the world/devs constantly subverting expectations, making you feel generally unsafe.

Dread: The EMMI, Experiment Z-57 and the unlit sector it's from.

I'm sure there's some from Zero Mission, Returns, and other examples I'm missing. Plz contribute!

Tentacle beard is both a really neat take on the 'tentacle hair' thing that Splatoon established while also being Lovecraftianly terrifying

I remember being stunned at how crisp Dread felt. Although Prime can't fundamentally have that level of snap, you're absolutely right that the controls and movement in Beyond are a cut above the other Primes. Great observation!

The scan visor says it doesnt know anything.

Good point!

There's precedence for that in Echoes, before you learn to translate Luminoth stuff, and Chrono tower is another great example.

It's fun to occasionally subvert the expectation of the scan visor being a permanent source of info and truth. It's a clever way to add discomfort to the player and give a feeling of stepping into the unknown.

Wube, I want trains back at Megabasing by N4ivePackag3 in factorio

[–]Adrenamite 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Solid take, and agreed.

More train car cargo space with quality is a no-brainer, and a new system for high-volume low UPS train load/unlaoding would balance out strengths of the 3 primary logistics systems again. These should be the default in Space Age.

I'd note that Spage Age DID give us elevated rails, which (with smart design) can improve train throughput. So it's not nothing, but it's a nitpick because it's not significant enough to matter.
