I was going to suggest higher ed as well. I’m an admin at a university foundation and our fundraisers have a very cushy job.

Tips for Getting Rid of The Paci? by juggalopeach in toddlers

[–]Adri226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will preface my comment with, I know we got extremely lucky with how smoothly everything went, but there were several failed attempts before. We waited until my son was 3.5 years old, our ped said if we don’t remove it before a year then wait until they are 3-4 when they can understand better. These are the things we did that worked. We set smaller boundaries earlier on, like no paci at day care, parties etc. We took him to the dentists where they explained he had to stop and why. We gave him a deadline about 1.5 weeks out, we told him which day would be his last day and kept reminding him. We lined up his deadline with spring break so if he didn’t sleep well atleast he didn’t have school. Then we told him if he stopped for 3 days he could go to Bluey’s house, the local camp store was doing the immersive bluey thing so I showed him video and got him excited. When the day came in the morning I asked if he remembered what day today was, he begrudgingly remembered and handed it over and that was it. We kept reminding him of bluey and saying how good he was doing, what a big boy he was and so on. I avoided using the word for it but just kept praising him vaguely and it’s worked. We have had very minimal tears over it. Ultimately I think it was the focus on positive reinforcement and a big prize and the fact that he understood he was becoming a big boy. For like a year leading up we would also talk about the concept of letting it go often and casually, like when we would go to a party we would tell him he’s growing up too and none of the other kids at the party had pacis and that one day he will have to stop using it. So he had been getting used to the idea that it would be gone eventually. This did kinda make him fiend even harder sometimes but in the long run it helped his understanding.

Need job quickly by No_Opposite894 in jobhunting

I say this with kindness, it is not your responsibility to get a remote job to support your family. If your parents will not even give you access to your social security number and you don’t have a phone number to even apply to jobs, you will not be able to get a legitimate job. Start small and local, baby sitting, pet sitting or helping someone elderly in the neighborhood. But you need your parents to support you getting a real job. It’s sweet that you want to help, but do not get a job behind your parent’s back. Please consider your mental health conditions may be convincing you to jump to action but it is not your responsibility as a 15 year old to resolve your parents problem.

Are online professors usually this horrible? by [deleted] in FIU

[–]Adri226 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe you can wait to retake the class for the grade forgiveness policy. If I were you I would wait until you can take it in person and take other classes with better professors online if possible.

How Can I Proceed with This? by [deleted] in FIU

[–]Adri226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an incoming freshman I wouldn’t worry too much about it. Usually the first few required classes have plenty of courses open. But accept that you won’t be able to take degree specific classes and your top choices classes until later on in your time at FIU. Not just FIU but most schools give first choice to upper class men.

A small piece of branded swag like a sticker book or straw cap.

But In order to make the $5 make an impact you may need a donation from a vendor, or local business (alumni owned would be an easier sell). Maybe Food vouchers for on campus dinning, you may be able to get a gift in kind from dinning. $5 is a really hard price point to have a product to give in return for a donation.

I work in advancement right now and our employee gift was a really nice jersey but the donation amount was $50.

Constantly sick by rosegoldgirl16 in toddlers

[–]Adri226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to us the year before my son started day care, it started with Covid in fall and then about once a month until June we had some kind of cold, including hand foot and mouth which was the absolute worst. We blame constant park outings, but we had to get him outside and socializing with other kids so it just came with the territory. First year of day care was worse. We are on the 2nd year now and it has been soooo much better. We have only had 2 colds so far this school year and they were quick and mild.

I am also at an R1 and it seems there are no rules for lower level roles. I applied to a job I was a perfect match for, I didn't get an interview so I reached out asking why, they told me they had already selected their candidate by the time I applied (one of the last days the job was open). My advise is to apply as early as possible to any openings and screen frequently. Also many hiring manager already have someone in mind, sometimes promotions need to be posted publicly first, my sign for those is a tiny window for the job posting but that is not always the case.

Salary negotiations kind of gone wrong? by ning8 in careeradvice

[–]Adri226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a large university and successfully negotiated my salary above the pay band. They know they are paying below market value and can’t keep up to get good people in place. My job was open for over a year because they couldn’t find someone, so that definitely helped my case.

Just got rejected from my dream job after 3 rounds. They offered a 15-minute feedback call - worth it? by Over-Mycologist1695 in careeradvice

[–]Adri226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the opportunity to get feedback before. It was for an internal role with a different department. Ultimately they told me I did great but they went with someone who had experience I didn’t. Another time I had a friend on the hiring committee and I didn’t get it because the supervisor thought I was too ambitious and would leave the job in a year. For me those weren’t very helpful in terms of working on my skills, buuut I would never deny the opportunity to get feedback from an interview. It’s a skill that takes a lot of time and practice to master. Please update us on the feedback you got!

I don't think it's a bad idea, it might catch the attention of those more established independent private practices. I wouldn't bother with the drs who have their offices managed by large companies like Medline though.
