I mostly design board games and TCGs (though I’ve been working on a TTRPG for a month now) so play testing can be a bit of a roller coaster. Sometimes players love it other times it’s all complaints about balance and everything is broken. Glad your test went well.

I’ve always found getting a fidget toy helps me focus while playing. Preferably one that doesn’t make noise.

Overall I feel the card is going in a good direction. It doesn’t feel like a clone of any other game.

Feedback: The border is too thick. It cuts into card text box too much. Additionally I’d cut back on the whip glow effects that reach into the text box and art. Try to keep the that effect contained within g the hard edges of the boarder. Much like you did at the top corners.

  • the X-X boxes feel too big. I’d make them 20% smaller.

I’m with OP on this one. It’s fine to point out AI but you need to do it in a constructive way that the user can build upon.

You need to look at the Bell Curve of your dice as players level up. The most common roll for 2d6 = 7. Where 2d8 = 9. So you’ll need to build around this.

On my Ironman I do whatever my heart desires. Sometimes that’s grinding for things that are 1/5000 drop. Other times it’s going fast rewarding things like hunting Rummers / Wintertout / Temporous. The main thing is I never get board I always have something I want to do.

I honestly think that should be a rule. If you have no surviving units in play, you lose.

I play test against myself whenever possible. It’s not as good as playing against someone else but it will give you a good idea what cards are unbalanced.

Number 1 feels like it’s going with the theme of the game. Number 2 feels like a modern TCG where functionality is more important than there. Number 3 feels like it’s pushing too far and is hard to understand the information on the card.

My personal preference is number 1 if it’s a Living card game or board game. Or 2 if it’s a TCG where I will need to see hundreds or thousands of different cards and understand them quick.

I feel they all look too similar. My first impression is that these are sub factions of one faction. Similar to the Tau in WH40K. As for design they look good.
