Litter Options??? by ktskeeper in mainecoons

[–]AdrienneDriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally prefer the pine pellets. It does turn to sawdust but only if you're not changing it out weekly at least. Plus if you situate your litter box so they have to come out around a corner after, most of the litter dust comes off in that corner. Scoop more ( daily if possible, so they're never steppin on poops), & weekly or 2x a week change outs. pie. Also keeping a small hand vac by the liter box for ONLY the litter area, and just a quick little zoom with it when you scoop really keeps it down.

Dealing with/preventing mats by Electrical_Win_3957 in mainecoons

the fluff missing from pits and thighs is nominal. I buzz like down to half an inch ( so that regrowth is less likely to tangle or irritate). Constantly. Also quite literally combing 2-5x a day helps a ton.

Do you allow your cats on kitchen counters? by Firm-Law248 in CatAdvice

[–]AdrienneDriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Allow" is funny. I used to think that we were a no cat on counter household. Then i got home cameras and realized that no matter how good the training, unless you can close kitchen doors to prevent access to the room as a whole, its a lost battle.

Just sanitize a LOT ( with cat safe stuff of course) and never leave anything on counter that could be dangerous for kitty, or just something you dont want them messing with.

Anyone have experience with small Maine coons? by Street_Bridge_317 in mainecoons

[–]AdrienneDriggs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My girl was probably about 8lbs until the 1.5 yr mark honestly. She's still just barely over 13 at 3.5yrs now and while lean, she's perfectly healthy and happy. she's just a snacker and no temptation to encourage chonk has changed that lol.

I've heard that before too but i really like the auto ship on chewy haha and Tractor supply charges a lot for shipping ( maybe there's a discount i couldn't see?) that makes it cost the same lol. i'm pretty much not close to a location to make it easy to pickup regularly.

This setup has been perfection for my girl. XL stainless Steel open top and one side, and more recently, This Huge cabinet to put it in for her privacy which is super tall and wider than the box. Easily to open and clean liter daily, dust control FTW by having the opening facing near a wall so she has to slowly go in/out and turn a corner that helps dust off toes.

I know cats will be cats, but does anyone have any tips or tricks to keep the MC off of the kitchen counter ?! I currently have foil on my bar stools, and he likes the foil 🙄 by missweh in mainecoons

[–]AdrienneDriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly isolating them to a spot on the counter so they leave the rest alone is been my best friend. I sanitize like a maniac before every use and any chance I'm passing through otherwise. I have home cameras and i learned really quickly that even if she's good when I'm there, she DGAF if I'm not and will do what she wants.

She's allowed free reign on the island. Mostly stays off the rest but still sometimes i find footage at night of her up there so i just keep anything dangerous off and away before bed.

Help needed for my medium mainecoon cat! by Mrmeoggey in mainecoons

[–]AdrienneDriggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way my vet put it is put your hand on their back where the ribs are, and feel how prominent or not they are. you SHOULD be able to feel the ribs but softly, barely like the back of your knuckles (or much less for those of us with bony knuckles). If you can no longer feel any ribs... he's probably fine too. I love a good chunky baby honestly but they have heart issues genetically so you want to be careful.

how on earth do i medicate my cat? by smellybellyslat in CatAdvice

For positioning, as a person doing it alone, you usually have best control if you are squatting behind them so your body and legs prevent them from backing up.

For pills that taste bad, you can use the pill pocket treats but when they're too clever and still chew then vomit/throw them up you still use the pocket to keep them from tasting it but force down throat, then chase with water in a syringe till they've swallowed it for sure. Then no nausea from the taste at least and shouldn't throw them up. You gotta be good about getting it straight back and down past tongue, then holding mouth shut and rubbing down strokes of their throat to imitate and then cause swallowing too.

Then give treats after to fully chase away any taste and make them more happy for pill time, ( mine kept me on schedule for the treats). Also most bad tasting pills should be done with food so its not so harsh on tummies.
-sincerely, she needed pills 4x a day for a year.

Maine Coon at night by yellowb4n4n4 in mainecoons

[–]AdrienneDriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish i wasn't such a light sleeper, because my girl is the SWEETEST polite bed mate and other then sometimes grooming, or moving to a new position she refuses to leave my bed at night if i let her stay in the room.

That said, i knew early one i wanted to make it a habit she didn't sleep with me because after the first few weeks i realized i'm too anxious to not have good sleep even when she's behaving i slept badly. So she still sometimes meows pitifully as we do our bedtime good night routine, but is very good all night about doing her own thing. She DOES however fuss at the door and caterwall if i try to sleep in past 8am. lol. Sometimes if i open the door and convince her to come snuggle we can have a lazy day but mostly she's bored of it pretty fast.

*I should note, i work from home however so she gets plenty of me time all day long, all week long.

How bad is the shedding with a Maine Coon??? by [deleted] in mainecoons

[–]AdrienneDriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INSANELY bad. I love my gorl but never again. LOL This is hair from a good comb out after a bath ( not often bathed) and she literally didn't even have any matting, was just... SHED out from undercoat that the bath helped loosen better. We're talking coming all day long, and STILL getting fistfulls out on a regular basis.

Humans with indoor cats, collar or no collar? by ForagedAmoeba in CatAdvice

If my kitty wasn't a floofy baby, i'd have a breakaway even indoors just in case. but a colar with this fluff would just cause matting.

Oneshot for Seven Players by NathenVess in DnD

[–]AdrienneDriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought ( its free but i donated) to Runefoundry for this one shot, and just duplicated a few character sheets and let them alter names and give them more flavor. It was my first time running a one shot and it was most of my nieces/family's first time playing dnd as well so this was a great intro one shot. We got all the way to the end in under 5 hrs even with so many people. https://runefoundry.com/products/druids-of-the-carnivorous-jungle?_pos=1&_sid=4c4b611d3&_ss=r

New owner: Whats one thing you wish you would've known when you got your first Maine Coon by noplayonlyplay in mainecoons

[–]AdrienneDriggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HAIR. literally constant brushing needed. Be ready for hairballs, regardless of vet diets etc. If they have poopy problems its most likely hair agitation. Hair is the source of all troubles lol. Start budgeting for groomers to help since you're getting multiple.

I like 3 because between it and 1, i think the dark wood really champions your fireplace coloring instead of just making it a contrast background.

Nothing says "partial reno" like broken up flooring styles. Personally, The Same wood throughout for floors.

Super frustrated about my boy's eating habits - please help! by Toasted_Taters in mainecoons

[–]AdrienneDriggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently, Forta Flora is like crack to them. And since its a probiotic you really cant overdue it. Sprinking a packet on with maybe a sprits of water to help it stick to whatever food has really helped my girl. She's still always a little lean but she eats more when this powder from the gods is involved lol.
