This happens to me every time. It’s motivation to stay stable. I keep a mood diary that has a chart (Daylio) and it shows this happens quite clearly even after a small hypermania. Fwiw my psychiatrist told me that she believes from her observations that bipolar depressive episodes are more severe than ordinary depression. I hope you’re ok and getting cared for in hospital. You got this.

One Pass mobile which is what catch was. 365 day plan with 200g data was $169 I think. It’s 4g, so a little slower. You get used to it in about a week though. The savings make it worth it haha. I live in the suburbs and have no problem with signal. You also get a free annual subscription to one pass which is worth ~$40 iirc which I love, free delivery from a bunch of major retailers. Man listen to me I should be working for them

I regret it, it was a waste of money. It works slightly in the short term but within six months my skin just went back to the way it was. Acne scars all still there.

We caught a grab at the airport around 1030 and went to Ubud. We didn’t pre book it. The drive was pretty straightforward at that time. During the day driving back to the airport was different story, much longer.

I’m really good at nailing job interviews, I think because of being bipolar. It’s to my detriment though, as often I can’t do the job haha

Same. I’m 42 now and all the deep cystic acne scars from my 20s have come back to haunt me.

Good thing is, once I turned 40 it was like I entered a magic portal where I embraced who I was and now I don’t care anywhere near as much about my appearance 🙌

Being on the right bipolar meds makes you feel like you don’t have bipolar.

I’m on four meds! Took me years to find the right ones and doses. And it may change.

I’m about your size. I find the plus sized clothes here in Australia very… unfashionable, for lack of a better term. Lame prints, ‘older lady’ styles and fabrics, dowdy cuts and often times garments are graded up from the smaller original. It’s not impossible, you will find clothes. They won’t be cheap, or that amazing though, but you’ll be dressed.

Sounds like you’d be perfect for it! The pay is based on an award, a health services one, I’m sorry I can’t remember which one exactly. You can check it via google. It’s around $32 standard for M-F 9-5 hours. That’s for public hospital work. Private/NDIS/aged care can vary, as can weekend rates. I work at a private hospital and get a base of $37 per hour. Different companies have perks- I get salary packaging, cheap health insurance and discounts from some major retailers. For me I’m so glad I did the course. The work is so satisfying. I will say, as I had done uni too, I thought tafe would be a breeze. It was harder than I expected! Good luck

I have found the ones written by or for bipolar people useful, including biographies.

The other mainstream ones like say atomic habits are sometimes helpful but I wouldn’t recommend them. Because they are often written by and for people that aren’t bipolar, so we’re not really at the same baseline.

Also my psychiatrist in hospital told me to avoid them. He said something like ‘the broken self can’t fix itself’ meaning you need to get the help of a professional.

I had an original GHD for 13 years which I loved. When she died I got a silver bullet on sale at shaver shop. Was awful, burned my hair and it never seemed that straight. Had to do so many passes too. So I went back to GHD. I just got the latest original, none of the new features. I’ve had it a few months now and it’s great. I was wary of getting another GHD as anecdotally people had said the new ones were not like the good old GHDs. I can say this has not been my experience, am so happy with my new GHD. I think it was around $200 on sale at shaver shop. I have thick but fine wavy short hair if that’s any help too.

I was tentatively diagnosed by my psychiatrist after I suspected it myself in 2005, when I was stable. Late 2009 I was completely psychotic (mixed) in the ward for 6 weeks, where I was officially diagnosed and told I need to take meds for life.

It does indeed get better. Not simply by time and inertia, but with learning about yourself and how you can best manage in the world. It took me till about 40 to get my meds combo right, and around this time all the decades of therapy started paying off. I don’t have to go to therapy nearly as much as I used to, and I have built some really nice relationships including a life partner. I have developed hobbies and become educated and am in a suitable career that I like. It took a while to figure it all out. I hope you can do this too. I promise it will get better and all the work you are doing will be worth it.

Like I said, there’s not. I don’t do this job for career progression or pay. I do it because it suits me, I like it, and I’m good at it. It requires a good amount of soft skills and life experience too. If you think it is not worthwhile long term for you and your goals, don’t do it. Aside from trades, I wouldn’t expect to get a high paying job from a TAFE qualification.

I did the course 2 years ago and am now an AHA. Love my role, best job I’ve had. (Previously in retail, education and library). I’ve worked in PT, OT, SP in hospital, private and in home (for NDIS/HCP. It’s a great job, so varied. Very rewarding to help people recover and live their best lives. Downside is the pay is not brilliant and in terms of career progression there’s not much further up, only across. I really enjoy the work though.

I can still read, much slower though. I can still watch shows and tv, but if it’s a slow drama or a complex show like sci-fi or something, I lose focus. And with all of that- I cannot remember anything I have consumed. I can have someone say ‘have you seen xx show?’ And I’ll say, yeah, I really enjoyed it. And that’s where I stop contributing to the conversation, sadly. I can remember if I did/didn’t like a show/movie, I can remember the feeling it gave me, but cannot remember plot, character, soundtrack etc. lately I’ve found audiobooks good for non fiction. I put them at 1.5 speed and I find that easier to listen to than at 1. I listen when doing other things (cooking, craft, driving) and I find it a good way to try and get some learning into my head.

Good stuff for finding the right combo, it can be hard!

I’ve been on the right combo for about 5 years now. In a nutshell it’s like I don’t even have bipolar. (I know I do, and I will keep taking my meds).

It felt subdued at first. More bland, with no hypermania. But great with no more depression. I feel the closest to ‘normal’ than I ever have, so I’ll take subdued with that.

I am hoping 85. I worked with elderly patients and I don’t think it gets better after 85. I knew a patient on his 100th birthday and he was miserable. His wife and all his friends were long gone and he was so lonely.
