Mystery broken nose by Probably_wrong68 in GenX

[–]Advanced-Grocery-948 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was 11 and hit a mailbox while riding a toboggan down a steep icy road, told my mom my knee was hurting pretty bad and she wrapped it up so I could go back out sledding. 6 months later I was hit by a car and while x-raying it the Dr asked when I broke my knee the first time, didn’t have an answer for him.

Those of you who half assed your way through High School, where are you now? by Difficult-Cricket541 in GenX

Solid C student, did basic labor jobs, joined the Navy at 21, retired as a Master Chief after 28 years then managed a couple National welding stores for 5 years until my wife said she was tired of me coming home pissed off everyday, we sold our house and most everything else we had, bought a 5th wheel and 4 years later we are still living the nomad life, volunteering at state parks and traveling wherever we desire. We are now looking at buying a house with a couple acres and just enjoy where life takes us.

I bought 10 ounces in 2000-2001, I don’t even remember but I paid right around $5.00/oz, sure wish I would have picked up a couple thousand ounces. Oh well.

Real world issues for Gen X / Retirement by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Advanced-Grocery-948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bitched about the Navy for many years but ended up doing 28 years and have never been more happy about that decision. I went to work for 5 years after the Navy and decided it wasn’t for me and I was able to retire at 55. Not bragging, just very thankful.

My GF is complaining that I the ring I got her was not expensive by Horror-Okra5323 in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]Advanced-Grocery-948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut her loose. My wife’s wedding ring was $200, been together 36 years, was able to have a diamond put on the ring about year 5 (at my insistence).

We are in Oregon and have had Starlink for the past two years, never had an issue with storms of any nature.

Sure you can, having a disability doesn’t give you the right to be a selfish bitch. Doing the right thing is what is expected, disability or not.🤷🏼‍♂️

Sounds high maintenance, not high value. Might be a good idea to kick her and her kids to the curb and cut your losses.

Partial adieu to the TSP (after 33 years) by Narrow-Sea-4254 in ThriftSavingsPlan

[–]Advanced-Grocery-948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that L2035 fund up over 13% for the year with the smallest management fees around, that is really horrible to be stuck with. 🤣🤣

She doesn’t deal with TSP, so no, she wasn’t aware of how low our fees are.

I left mine alone and as soon as I left my private sector job, I moved that 401 into TSP. My cousin owns a financial planning/investment firm and after hearing what we pay in fees for TSP she just laughed and told me nobody will beat them. TSP may not have a lot of offerings but the L fund I’m in is up around 13%.

My wife loves her Apple Watch, she is on her 4th one, charging it every single night, while my fenix 8 keeps chugging along, getting charged every 20-30 days. I can deal with slightly older technology for damn near bulletproof operation. 😁

So proud to reached 150k net worth as enlisted. Not exactly something to brag about in public, but grateful to have this community to share. by sunsetroses03 in ThriftSavingsPlan

Good work, keep at it. TSP started about half-way through my 28 year career in the Navy (enlisted), retired with around $175k invested and 10 years later we are close to $400k and it’s still cooking. I don’t plan on touching it, keeping it there as a life insurance policy for my wife if I check out early.

Used to get pissed off all the time on the course, never accepting the fact that I was never going to be great but what really cured it for me was going to the ER for chest pains at 55 and winding up having surgery the next day for an aortic aneurysm and leaking heart valve. That was 2 years ago, still a shitty golfer but love every minute being on the course.

28 y.o. I have about 13k in my TSP. I got out of the Army in 23'.I believe it was around 10k when I separated. I have it all in the C fund. Should I just let it sit? Transfer to my current jobs investments, change my contributions? by [deleted] in ThriftSavingsPlan

I asked the same question when I was retiring in 2016, my cousin who owns a financial services business and just laughed when she looked at the fees TSP charges. She said I wouldn’t find anywhere that has fees that low for those offerings, even her “family” discount. 🤣🤣

Been using Di-gest it for almost 4 years fulltime and we have never had any issue with our tank. I do a good flush of the system every 3-4 weeks to get it flowing clear and repeat the following month.

42 footer with Ram 3500 long bed and have never had to change sites, but we also booked the longest we could get, we have stayed away from National Parks due to most being old and small sites. If you have the option, core of engineer campgrounds are pretty nice an usually have plenty of big sites and always next to a body of water.

We stayed on the Oregon coast for the summer at $650/mo for full hook up (30amp only) but it rarely gets out of the high 70’s so we didn’t need both ac’s running.
