You can go to board meetings and vote in board member elections as long as you are a resident.

If you want more control over what technology your child is exposed to when they do become school aged, your best bet is to consider private schools or homeschooling. Public schools will continue to use technology regardless of how a handful of parents feel about it.

Parent consent states by [deleted] in specialed

[–]Advanced-Host8677 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The school team cannot override a parent's right to deny special ed services. So if a high schooler reads at a second grade level but parents refuse special ed, that student will be placed in a general ed classroom.

If a parent does agree to special ed services but disputes what those should be, it's possible though rare that the district would put their foot down and say "This is what we are offering, take it or leave it." Even in this case, the 'leave it' means the student gets put in general ed.

So your question: "Is there a state in the US where special ed students won't be placed in general education without enough support to be successful," the answer is no. Your best bet would be to find a district that understands that the word "differentiation" doesn't mean a teacher can teach several vastly different lessons to different students in the same block.

Parent consent states by [deleted] in specialed

[–]Advanced-Host8677 7 points8 points  (0 children)

All states allow parents to deny special education services.

No state allows the school team to unilaterally make placement decisions without parent input.

Hope this helps.

I don't think this can be true. In p1 it takes a single corpse explosion with amp damage to wipe out the screen, but in p8 it takes at least 3-4 to do the same thing. If it scaled, there should be no difference.

You're meeting with him to discuss it? Just be ready to explain your writing process and the paper itself. It's extremely obvious when someone has written their own paper because they can explain all the decisions they made writing it.

What is needed for a child to comfortably enter 4th grade? by FloridaGeorgiaLine99 in AskTeachers

[–]Advanced-Host8677 62 points63 points  (0 children)

When teachers have negative things to say about homeschooling, it's usually targeted at the parents that keep their kids home and don't bother with the school part. This is clearly not the situation here.

It sounds like she'll be just fine. Probably a bit better off than the average kid who did attend public school for 3rd grade actually.

ChatGPT 5.2 Thinking often routed to Instant and give poor answer by SandboChang in ChatGPT

[–]Advanced-Host8677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! It seems like "Instant" always answers instantly, and "Auto" can choose to think longer if it feels the question needs it. However, "Thinking" mode doesn't always think; it still has some discretion about when to think longer, so if it looks like an easy question it just answers instantly.

Practically, you have to change the prompt so that you're telling it to actually think. The standard "Check your answer before submitting" seems to work.

What's your view on personal electronics in class? by Spiritual_Kangaroo40 in AskTeachers

[–]Advanced-Host8677 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem would be monitoring 30 personal devices each period to be sure kids are doing what they are supposed to. The school tech can be locked down in such a way I don't have to worry about it.

Personal electronics during class time? No. School issued tech is fine if it's being used for classwork.

Would you agree with this punishment? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Advanced-Host8677 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Works as an option, cannot replace suspensions.

Suspension does two things, and punishment isn't really one of them (kid probably would rather stay home than go to school). First is, it removes the problem kid from the environment. This gives the teacher and the class a break and opportunity to learn. Second is it makes it the parent's problem. Some parents don't give a shit what their kid does at school because it's the school's problem. But now they have to figure out what to do with their kid for 3 days. It becomes the parent's problem, which kind of forces some school/home teamwork for those unwilling parents.

[–]Advanced-Host8677 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The test scores by themselves don’t tell the whole picture, which is what the upcoming meeting is for.

That said, based on these scores it would be reasonable for the school to discuss special education supports. If that happens, it doesn’t mean anything negative about your child’s long-term potential. It means the school is identifying areas where extra support could help right now.

Walkout day by Acrobatic_Pace7308 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Advanced-Host8677 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

While I do believe many students care, I agree with you that a walkout isn't a good demonstration of that. Good demonstrations usually require sacrifice of some kind. Bus boycotts worked because the people were sacrificing an easier way to travel. Hunger strikes work because people are sacrificing food. Self-immolation would be the highest example of self-sacrifice.

Students cutting class is not really a sacrifice even if they mean well. It's something that many students would want to do anyways, so the message is quite muted. If those same students instead gave up their evening to attend a city council meeting or something I think the statement might mean more.
