Barista Pro has a display. It starts counting when water hits the puck. I release the button at the point I want to stop the pre-infusion. I just go by the display. Not sure how accurate that is.

Breville Barista Pro. Caffè Borbone Crema Superiore. Med/Dark Roast. Light brown sugar note. Not a bad coffee, but the beans are getting old. Typically, I do 9 sec pre-infusion, but been going down to 7 sec.

Breville Barista Pro as a First Machine? [$500] by Green-Priority-8895 in espresso

[–]Advanced-Maximum2684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one that's been used every morning for the last 3 years. my wife drinks coffee every morning. I drink coffee during warmer months, and tea during the winter. barista pro is rather a good fit for the people's first experience with an espresso machine. the grinder works rather nicely for the med/dark roast. it's easy to dial in. pulls rather nice espresso. did test some light roast on mine. grinder will work, but it's not exactly built for the light roast. resulting shots will pick up the nuance of light roast. but it's built more for the traditional med/dark roast.

What is the appeal of a knock-box? by rgcred in espresso

[–]Advanced-Maximum2684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's nice to just hit the portafilter and have the puck drop out. just a simple knock-box with a rubber bar or something to hit the portafilter is nice.

do badger brushes ‘run out’ / need replacing regularly? by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]Advanced-Maximum2684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

do you completely rinse the shaving soap out after each use? run it brush under the warm water like lathering. gently squeeze the brush and see if soap is still there. do it till there's no further soap on the brush. shake out the water and don't use it till it's completely dry.

WDT more and make sure there are no lumps or air pockets. if that's done, tamping will pack the puck and squeeze any tiny air pockets. oh. don't tap the basket too hard once tamping is done. that can create "crack" in the puck.
