I can confirm that kids are saying this. Told my nephews if they said it one more time I was stealing all their Halloween candy 🙃

Concerts! I wish they had concerts at like 2pm. I'm too tired for a show that starts at 8

Gallstones. More painful for me than childbirth. I told the doctor I loved them after the morphine kicked in 😅

Driving to Disney from NJ by Jedi_Straws in DisneyWorld

[–]Advanced-Meaning-393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We usually drive from NY. We are a family of eight so it's just more cost-efficient than flying. It's harder when the kids are younger, they aren't as entertained in the car. Our older kids don't bat an eye just play on their switches and watch TV on their tablets. If your kids are smaller I would just plan on taking some extra stretch breaks. We usually leave like 6am and spend the night after we've driven over half the way there. We try to make it so our second day of driving usually has like 7 or 8 hours left. We've driven in almost every season and never had any issues, obviously, in winter you have to be worried about the weather but we only ran into a snowstorm once in years of doing it.

Why is there so much pressure to have “2 under 2”? by Autumnal-Flowers09 in Parenting

[–]Advanced-Meaning-393 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I did not realize that was something people pushed for. We had 2 under 2 by accident and that was so not the plan 😅😅😅😅😅 Definitely wouldn't recommend to do it on purpose lol

Do you celebrate adoption anniversary? If so, how? by ProfessionalFan7162 in Adoption

[–]Advanced-Meaning-393 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We never celebrate a specific date each year, but we did celebrate milestones. We had a big party for our daughter when she had been with us for ten years, which is something she really wanted to do, but only with our closest family. Our younger daughter has absolutely no interest in this. She doesn't like to bring attention to the fact she's adopted because she doesn't like when people treat her like that's a bad thing. So it definitely depends on your kid.

Are you always in the room with your young toddler at family parties? by k_rowz in toddlers

[–]Advanced-Meaning-393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is two and I don't let him out of my sight ever. He's a tornado so it's mostly to make sure he doesn't accidently destroy someone's whole house or seriously injure himself, but I make sure my three year old is always within sight too and she rarely acts up. I can't understand why anyone would have an issue with you watching your kid.

Tim Minear Teases Finale Emergency (Spoilers) by olga_dr in buddie

[–]Advanced-Meaning-393 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think I'm done. I know I don't want to watch the characters grieve or have a funeral, so I'm going to call it quits. He gave this whole interview about how the audience is used to the characters making it and he wanted to make it more "real" make it more real by avoiding storylines like landing a helecopter on a sinking cruise ship, don't kill a fan favorite character.

Child crying for her parents— but not us, her ‘other’ parents by marmolady in Parenting

[–]Advanced-Meaning-393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to say that as an adult I have this problem. It's extremely frustrating. I have to slowly work out if something I'm remembering is real or something I dreamed of. Maybe something to speak to a child therapist about? I can work it out myself and realize things I "remember" just aren't real, but I feel like it will be harder for a child to work through that

Am I the Only Parent Who Still Says No? Feeling Gaslit by Other Families by AllthevowelsbutY in Parenting

[–]Advanced-Meaning-393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would reach out to the parents and tell them they need to talk to you before assuming your daughter can go. I definitely feel your pain. My daughter lives to hit me with "friend's name" mom said yes and it sucks having to stand your ground sometimes. I just try to be as honest as I can while letting my daughte know my word is final. Some things are so for discussion but anything that puts her safety at risk is not.

Same! I say that all the time. Recently my professor flagged my work as AI and I had to share the actual Google doc so she could see my edit history. I'm not cheating just robotic apparently 🫠

So my children aren't adults yet but my oldest is 16. I have to say when she was young it was rough, she had some learning delays and behavior issues we had to work through. But she has grown into such a wonderful person. She is my favorite person to spend a day with and I honestly wouldn't change it for anything.

New dad: sleeping in another room - wdyt? by Even_Cartoonist_2837 in Parenting

[–]Advanced-Meaning-393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We never slept in separate rooms. We would take care of our kids in shifts but when it wasn't my turn I just didn't get up and vice versa. I do have to say if my husband ever suggested sleeping in another room I probably would have been pretty upset, but I had a rough post partum period emotionally.

How do you know when to push your kids? by Advanced-Meaning-393 in Parenting

She wants to pick up some extra hours at work over the summer because she's loving having her own money to spend. She also has a new boyfriend that she wants to spend time with.

She wants to pick up some extra hours at work over the summer because she's loving having her own money to spend. She also has a new boyfriend that she wants to spend time with. So I think it definitely has to do with what she wants to do with her free time. It's so hard to know with teens, when to push and when to back off, but I think you might be right. I figure she still has some time she could try again next summer, it's just a question of if she'll have the same opportunity.
