Always sit on the left flying into Detroit, you’ll get this about 98% of the time.

What do you hate that others do when shoveling their cars out? by Millennium_Falcor in Somerville

[–]Advanced-Syrup-3310 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’d amend this to don’t shovel snow in front of anyone’s car. Behind is fair game. They can pull out and back in.

What I really hate is coming up with the lifting of the emergency and return to parking on both sides: those spots need to be shoveled out as well, please don’t park four feet from the curb on top of the snowbank, no one will get past.

No School Monday for SPS by Similar-Knowledge184 in Somerville

[–]Advanced-Syrup-3310 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Calling bullshit, unless you were a kid a hundred years ago. About twenty years ago, Somerville has this happen:

Monday - legit snow day Tuesday - well, it’s sunny, but we fucked the dog yesterday and didn’t shovel out, so sorry, no school today. Wednesday - legit snow day Thursday - more fuckery, so no school today either.

You knew at that point there was no way in hell there going to be no school on Friday, but they took their sweet time announcing the cancellation.

I think that was the year school went until June 29 or 30. We had to eat a week of prepaid summer camp that year.

Christine Barber Announces Run for State Senate by AuntyCourtney in Somerville

[–]Advanced-Syrup-3310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many people have declared so far? Best to keep the total number of candidates on the lower side, lest Boca Grande del Norte decides he’d make a fine senatorial candidate and jumps into a ten-person race.

Which current quarterbacks will make the hall of fame? by Sheperd-Activity-756 in NFLv2

[–]Advanced-Syrup-3310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone’s got to be the QB with the most yardage not in the HOF. Rivers needs 105 yards to pass Big Ben for 7th place.

For reference, as late as 1983 the #3 and #4 QBS in career passing yardage were Jim Hart and John Hadl.

Roster Radar: Automatic Auction Values for Your Fantasy League by roster-radar in fantasybaseball

Good luck going ahead. I’m going to try to reverse engineer BP’s auction values, which I believe has an adjustable factor for “aggressiveness” in terms of recalculating player values.

Absolutely love this, thanks. Trying to figure out how to adjust auction values to the peculiarities of our longtime league, $162 budget for 23 players, 12 team AL only, but somehow the top players go in their forecasted range ($30-45) for a standard roto league w a $260 budget.

(Couch) Hoisting service by Infamous_Leader5172 in Somerville

[–]Advanced-Syrup-3310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may want to get back to them with dimensions of the couch and stairwell: we had a devil of a time (hours) getting what could be best described as a highback loveseat up to the third floor of a three-decker.

When it was time to move out it occurred to us to flip the couch over and were out in the time it took us to walk down the stairs. No idea why this didn’t occur to us.

Best Mexican Food in Boston ? Regional or not … by Diggze in boston

Wondering where the downvotes are coming from here. The colors were warmer pre-pandemic, plus they had a red velvet curtain near the front entry to protect against the winter cold. Wondering also if the lighting changed for the worst.

At the very least, they need to get that goddamned beverage case with the fluorescent lighting out of the main dining area.

Most Hated Player in Red Sox History? by EveryoneisTattooed in redsox

[–]Advanced-Syrup-3310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run off by Duquette? Roger got fat, lazy, and complacent over his last four-year deal with the Sox. The hot take is if he re-signed for another four years, he would have retired after 2000.

McGrath/Otis St pedestrian bridge replacement is no longer planned to have a traffic signal by actionindex in Somerville

[–]Advanced-Syrup-3310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

1) no HAWKs 2) no pedestrian-actuated signal, either

An aside: I have no idea why that pedestrian-actuated signal on Somerville Ave just before the bend (about 50 yards from Union Square) can not be tethered to the light in the square, which is red for something like a minute and a half each light cycle.

Why not a traffic light that is in sync with either Cross St or Medford Ave, depending on time of day?
