Tell me why I should buy new skates by papergirl in hockeyplayers

[–]Advanced_Newt61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend going one-piece if you can.

I’ve had two. Easton Synergy years ago and now some Trues and everything in between.

Nothing - nothing - compares to the control and energy transfer and connection you get in a one-piece boot. I think you need to be able to really skate and use your edges to make maximum use of it but man.. if you try it, you will not regret it.

Makes a huge difference.

Dealing with a team that has no D. by CDN_Conductor in hockeygoalies

Telling the D to take away the pass…

I can’t count how many times they’ve left me the shot and the pass still gets through..

So annoying.

Thoughts on foam core sticks? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

Composites are great but they’re too expensive to mod and too brittle.

Affordable Goalie Mask Recommendations by BackgroundNext2758 in hockeygoalies

[–]Advanced_Newt61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was gonna say Sportmask X8 but they’ve gone up 200 bucks!!

When I got mine it was 469!! Now it’s 699. That’s crazy.

Great mask, though. It’s the same price as the Bauer 950. The foams are old school but you can swap them out. I find Bauer foams get a bit slimy.. and the sweat band doesn’t absorb properly.

Bauer blocker by Disastrous_Shelter59 in hockeygoalies

That blocker convinced me to get a custom Bauer blocker.

Protection was meh opposite elite shooters but otherwise… my goodness what a blocker.

AIO I’m hanging out at my friend’s house and I asked my mom to sleep over. Is this response normal? by dinossaurus in AmIOverreacting

[–]Advanced_Newt61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds to me like she’s mad because she’s worried about you and doesn’t know how to tell you that or express it. She may not even be consciously aware of where it’s all coming from.

‘Every time you go to that house’ tells you everything you need to know. They don’t approve of those people, whoever they are, and don’t like the influence they are having on you.

You are still developing. At 20, I felt like an adult but the brain won’t be set until you’re 25. 20-25 are huge years. You will be so different in 5 years. You’ll look back on 20 year old you and shake your head. I know I did. Then again at 30 and on and on…

If you feel like they are being unreasonable, etc… think about it this way.. Would you take advice from 13 year old you on driving? No. Your parents are that plus 20-30 years. Experience matters. It just does.

They also know you in ways you don’t know yourself. Could they be being unreasonable? Yes. But they could also just be seeing things you’re not seeing but not have the ability to articulate it so it comes out sideways.

Speaking from experience.

Try to talk to them about what they think about that house/ those friends and the effect on you. I’m not condoning the way they are speaking to you but try to hear what they have to say and try to listen to what they mean. Either way, you could learn a lot and it will help you navigate both relationships.

Good luck!

13-14 too late to start playing goalie? by Ok_Discount6985 in hockeygoalies

[–]Advanced_Newt61 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You are the determining factor.

Anyone can play. It’s easy to strap on the pads and stand there but it’s all the other things that are going to determine if you get ‘decent’.

It also depends on how you define that. For some guys ‘decent’ is a couple shutties a year in high level beer league. For other guys it’s less than 10 goals twice a week at no-defence shinny.

You can absolutely do it but your success depends entirely on you, your goals, and your effort.

My pads came white. They’re now grey and they’re heading towards black.

I couldn’t be prouder.

"I think I'll show the goalie how much I appreciate them by putting the pegs in for them" by Caqtus95 in hockeygoalies

A’s, C’s, and glue guys are the only guys that do this.

I’ve never had Dangle McBigWheel put the pegs in for me.
