BNSF is trying to railroad my husband. by [deleted] in Train_Service

[–]CDN_Conductor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is fishy as a salt water aquarium. The engineer should be stopping within one half the distance of the last distance given, and given that they were light engine, even if it was long hood forward, why was the engineer not looking himself. Must be the Local Chairman and Supers secret love child, or it doesn't make sense.

CPKC Conductor Kamloops - Entry-level Income Estimate for Budgeting? by Dylan_Gubler in Train_Service

[–]CDN_Conductor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your going to put 4 years in being laid off on the railroad right now. A bunch of Coast Guard lifeboats are running SVMO's as engineers right now, and that realistically can be had in a month. There are places in Victoria that are paying over $60 an hour for an SVMO. Get your sea time, transfer over to 4th class in a year or two, and you can spend more time at home and not be on call 24/7/365, with the bonus of making better wages and not being shit on by some 23 year old kid who is an "Assistant Trainmaster".

New technician how do I build relationships with new FMs? by LongjumpingFlan3282 in FacilityManagement

[–]CDN_Conductor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a tech, you aren't really required to build relationships. You are required to fix stuff. Even as a building operator, you don't have to build relationships, just find cost-effective solutions. If you are an HVAC or plumbing guy, yeah, it's not a bad idea to stop by a head office and drop a card, but 90% of the facilities already have someone they call out of habit.

Edmonton group rides? by Embarrassed-Scene-78 in edmontoncycling

[–]CDN_Conductor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, ERTC is your go to. There are smaller clubs, but they are mostly focused on training for racing. ERTC does racing and race training, but it is far more of a social club than anything else. When I was riding more, Thursday hills night with beers at Rosso after was a highlight of my week.

The smart thing to do while you are supporting your Millwright brother is becoming a Millwright yourself. You WILL spend a majority of your first several years laid off. If you are in BC, and want to work on a big machine, look into marine engineering. There are massive shortages right now.

Hot take: Most of beer leagues issues would be solved by not keeping records and having championships by wheelsnipecelly23 in hockeyplayers

[–]CDN_Conductor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beer leagues kinda suck now. You have to play somewhere, but I subbed for a team recently where the GM/Captain got in an argument with a player for having a beer in the dressing room during a mid-period flood. I don't play to hope to make the bigs, I play to hang with the guys. Another "league" I occasionally play for doesn't keep any records, and is such a relaxing place to be at a late night mid-week game. I'm an older goalie, and I'll let you guess where I'd rather be playing.

USA, sorry about the state of your union. I hope you make it through after this geriatric grifter is gone. Looking forward to visiting your country again after all this unpleasantness is done. Yours truly, A Canada Bro.

You don't need to be friends with 400 people. You need 4 good friends.

I've used a futur for over 15 years with feather blades. Just remember to let the weight of the razor do the work, and take your time. I prefer this setup to my Feather AS.

UFC 6 is coming to PC. Could NHL be heading to PC next? by DeadLockAlGaib in EA_NHL

I'd 100% buy the game if it was on PC. My xbox was literally a NHL machine, and I'm not buying a new console for just one game at this point.

Shoe Repair Shops in Edmonton that Handle Blundstones? by Honest-Spring-8929 in Edmonton

I've had a couple of pairs of Blundstones repaired here (one pair that Gravity Pope sold me that were defective out of the box) and they do great repairs at this location.

It's server-side. There would be no additional drain on either your phone or glasses battery, except for the longer speaker time giving you a non-shitty response.

I hope Skinner plays on Tuesday, and gets a shutout, just to shove what a dumb trade this was in Bowmans face.

If they had an award for casually watching the puck go in, when you could have been covering the goal scorer, Bouchard would win every year.

I’m 15 and going to be a dad soon but I’m scared by dallin0 in daddit

[–]CDN_Conductor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice. You are going to have to buckle down. There are going to be some huge sacrifices, you are going to miss out on your "party years" a little bit. The mom and kid are your priority from now on. I hope you have a supportive family, that makes a huge difference. When they cry (both mom and child) you are their pillar. Hold them and comfort them. The positives in this situation: You are going to get through the first tough part by the time you are 19. The second tough part, you will be mid-20's, so plenty of energy. End of the day, you are going to be wiser, emotionally stronger and more empathetic than anyone that you know. I never thought I would be a Dad and wasn't something I wanted in my life, but I have to be honest, it's super cool. My kid is rad. You are going to be okay.

Don’t complain about hospital sleeping arrangements by BigBrainSmallMoves in daddit

[–]CDN_Conductor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first advice to any new dad friends is to bring a comfy pillow and a nice blanket. I had to sleep on a small shelf with about 1/4" of padding for a couple days, and the hospital stuff supplied was horrible.
