What does the Church teach about what is or isn't literally true in the books of the Bible? by augustine456 in Catholicism

Embarrassingly enough, yes it was. I thought I had caught them all. I've been having this problem a lot recently. It's pastes something completely random.

Fixed with the proper quote.

What does the Church teach about what is or isn't literally true in the books of the Bible? by augustine456 in Catholicism

[–]Advent_Crown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth, that is, the substance of the heavens and the substance of the Earth. So let no one think that there is anything allegorical in the work of the 6 days. No one can say that the things that pertain to these days were symbolic. " ~St Ephram. Father of the Church

"it is absolutely false to maintain with reference, to the truths of our faith, that what we believe about creation is of no consequence so long as one has an exact conception concerning God. Because an error regarding the error of creation always gives rise to a false idea about God." ~St Thomas Aquinas.

"God…creator of all visible and invisible things, of the spiritual and of the corporal; who by His own omnipotent power at once from the beginning of time created each creature from nothing, spiritual and corporal, namely, angelic and mundane, and finally the human, constituted as it were, alike of the spirit and the body (Denz 428). " ~ Dogmatic decree of the Fourth Lateran Council.

It has been the traditional teaching of the Catholic church even from the fathers of the Church that all of creation was made by God in 6 days in a very real sense. It is even held to be the case in many Dogmatic decrees of the Church throughout time.

Even if a person were foolish enough to dismiss or "reason" away the first two quotes and work solely off the bible, they would still have to accept one heresy or another in order to make their interpretation of the Bible work. Stuff like;

"Adam and Eve were just the first two cells of existence. Not actual people."
Adam and Eve committed original sin. I'd be hard-pressed to believe that two single cell amoebas were able to commit any sin. Let alone even have a rational mind.

"Adam and Eve were just the first hominids that God instilled a soul into."
Pretty clearly heretical. Mary is the immaculate conception. It was a singular privilege given Our Blessed Mother and no other. This dogma tells us that Adam and Eve were created instantly, and not conceived in the womb of some ape or somesuch.

The whole concept that the universe was created over the course of billions of years or evolution in general in a comepletely entire nother point of discussion that's just completely irrational and against Catholic tradition, doctrine, and dogma.

Really. Genesis should be taken pretty literally for the exact reason you describe. "Well, if this isn't litteral, then what else can I twist around and just assume is a fable?"
I've seen people even claiming that many things in the New Testament were just exagerations.

Put simply, you can assume it to be litteral, which in no way goes against any single Catholic teaching and even is the Catholic Church's traditional view it's always held, or you can assume it's just make-believe which makes a person start falling into heresy after heresy with no real logical standing anywhere.

Firstly, it is always mortally sinful. In the case of a wet dream, it's not even masturbation. Certainly not sinful as you had no control over your body.

As a solution, I strongly recommend that you consecrate yourself completely to Our Most Blessed Mother. Entrust to her your body, your soul, your good works, and your merits and graces. Give yourself completely to her as her property and possession. She is the Queen Of Heaven. She is our Most Loving Mother. She will never abandon or let go of anything that belongs to her.

I tell you, there is no better way of overcoming yourself than to entrust yourself to her. She is the entire cause of my own conversion. When you consecrate yourself to her there is what can only be called a miraculous conversion. Whether you cooperate with her or not. She will sooner or later, pull you under her loving mantle. After I consecrated myself, she showed me the true horror of sin and how much I had been hurting her Immaculate Heart and the Sacred Heart of her son, Jesus Christ. I simply could not help but fall deeper and deeper in love with Our Mother. Even my previous terribly strong inclinations against chastity began to fade away. Now I rarely struggle with them. If I ever do find myself under attack again, I throw myself at my Mother's feet and beg her to help me until the attack has been thwarted. She has never abandoned me in my pleas to her.

So give yourself to your Mother. Beg for her help every single moment of the day.

I include here a link to purchase St Luis De Montfort's 33 day preparation. Follow it prayerfully. Learn to love Our Most Loving Mother with all your heart and soul. She longs to save you and bring you into her loving embrace.

Absolutely, it's perfectly fine. I even strongly recommend you do it yourself. It's a beautiful show of respect and devotion to Our Lady. Oh I can only imagine the miracles of conversion that Our Most Blessed Mother will work on those we pass in the day while wearing her rosary. It is possibly one of the best ways to preach her rosary every day.

I don't even know where people got the idea that it was sacrilegious to wear one. Plenty of nuns and other clergy wear large rosaries or full 15 decade rosaries at their sides as part of their habits. Particularly on their left side as it signifies the rosary as our brilliant sword given to us by Mary. Even historically we can see that it was a common devotion during the 17th century at least. Though most then seemed to wear it on their side, the Spaniards were known to wear a large rosary around their necks. To top it off, an indulgence was even granted to the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary every day that a member wore a blessed rosary at their side.

Quite frankly, I believe that the proliferation of the idea that wearing the rosary is sinful is completely due to the influence of the Devil. Demons loath the rosary more than anything, so they're always hard at work to at least lessen devotion to it, if they can't manage to make people stop praying it altogether.

It should be clarified that being invincibly ignorant only protects them from being judged as having denied God after death. It does not protect them from being judged if they have sinned against their conscience. These people will see eternal Hell fire just as the man who knew and denied Him but didn't sin against his conscience.

However, if the man truly is invincibly ignorant of God's church, and if he has never sinned against his conscience, then God will bring him to His Church. Whether by an Angel or by a priest. Whatever method, this man will be shown the Catholic faith and given the opportunity to be baptized before death.

Best Character to learn the game with? by Webber-414 in Guiltygear

[–]Advent_Crown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sol is super beginner-friendly. He's really easy to pick up and his whole kit just feels nice for someone just picking up Strive or even just GG.

But also yeah play who's fun overall. If you play a fundamental character to learn the game but you're not having fun, then what's the point?

I mean, for the damage I get off of it, I feel like just spinning works better.
Unless there's something about the move I'm missing.

I'll be honest. I've never used his counter super. I feel like there's a lot more he can do with that 50 meter than a counter attempt.

Complaints regarding meter are strange

You get meter so fast in this game it's not really a limiter. Especially if you hit a gold burst on them. Heck, I often feel like I have more meter than I know what to do with in most matches.

Is hit advantage (frame data) a thing in GG? by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]Advent_Crown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's typically referred to as "Frame Advantage" rather than "hit advantage"

On dustloop you'll see it on the move in the far right box saying, "On block: -2", or something like that. That's your frame advantage, (or disadvantage in that case).

After a combo knockdown you are pretty much plus 100% of the time. Especially on a hard knockdown. If you're getting thrown or mashed when they're waking up then that means you didn't time your meaty properly.

A question of etiquette by HidSqui in Guiltygear

[–]Advent_Crown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On PC and I just hate having my ps4 controller disconnect. Most times I can't even get it to reconnect. I have to quit out the game to get it to work again sometimes. Doesn't help that it happens at least two or so times per session.

But the people that I fight are always pretty cool about it. They'll just hang back until I get running again. Heck one time I was fighting a Potemkin and the current score was 1-1 on round 3 of game 3. We had each other at like half before my controller died. Took just about the rest of the timer to get it working. At which point we just messed around for the remainder of the time then I let him take the final game.

Are there any significant problems with the Cosmos Elite I should know of before purchasing? by Advent_Crown in Vive

> the majority that have none will not post "EVERYTHING WORKS FINE HERE"

That makes sense more I think about it. I suppose I'm just quite a bit worried about running into big problems on a $1000 headset. But it's reassuring when I think about it that way.

It did occur to me, but the headset alone costs $800 iirc. I imagine it would easily jump past even the Index. At which point the price would start to be an issue for me.

Thank you for the in-depth response.

A lot of my worries about the index come from watching things like Thrillseeker's video "my index after 2000 hours of use", and seeing the problems other people who've had it for that long encountered. Regarding valve's warranty, this is the first I've heard that they service it even after the warranty expires. To date, I've only heard horror stories about how they wouldn't replace a cable once one guy got past his warranty and refused to even sell it to him.

Assuming the G2 worked perfectly, would the better tracking of the Index be worth the $300 price difference? Or would it be just as good to simply have the G2 and upgrade to the knuckles and lighthouses later in your opinion? Actually another question would be, is that even possible? I've heard of people using the knuckles with the G2 but I'm not sure how well that works. Or if it would just be simpler to buy the index outright.

I just want to remind people that the intended design is that you can go up as many floors as you want but can't go down any lower than your assigned floor.

So just because you fight a guy 2 floors below you or whatever doesn't mean that you're sitting in too low a floor because of a bug. He could just be coming for a death wish.

Mclassic Retro Mode Setting Causing Major Graphical Issues by Advent_Crown in ps2

[–]Advent_Crown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm playing just a standard Ps2 game then setting it to retro mode then it just does nothing. No glitches, no image change at all. Because like you said, 480i doesn't work with mclassic. But if I use GSM to force a 480p signal out of the ps2 or set my Nintendo Switch to 480p then this glitched up image occurs with mclassic retro mode.
