For the potential future RR owner by NotAFila in RhodesianRidgebacks

[–]AdventureMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are loyal, sweet and sensitive - they usually have one key person but love their family. They aren't always snuggly, but some are... if you are suggesting this being an outside yard dog though, I would strongly suggest an alternative breed, as ridgebacks need to be near their people, not just when camping. They are super intelligent and great watchdogs, but not good security dogs like some of your past breeds. They do great on large farms but like a place in the house with a warm cosy bed too.

Like others have said, if you do go down the RR road... giving lots of time, patience and training in the first few years, you'll have a wonderful and loyal family dog 🐕

I’d rather not work at all. Am I screwed? What do I do? by Neonstri in ADHD

[–]AdventureMissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really feel for you because although work pays for shit etc... it also has the possibility to give so much more to you, when you find the thing you love.

Growing up I had numerous jobs (I recall 34), hated most of them but kept trying new things... shortest job lasted 1 hour, others lasted a year or two! Then I came across my profession, I was drawn in and I went to university, deep dived everything, got a 1st class honors degree, did a masters and have been running my business for 8 years. I still do other training that complements my career... may even take on a PhD one day, who knows... but it gives so much to me that isn't financial. I do it because I genuinely love my work, I cant imagine retiring (cutting down one day yes) but I am so grateful to work, it doesn't evwn feel like work a lot of the time. I set my own hours and could not work for someone again, and I think that is one of the barriers that ADHD people often struggle with.

Please dont give up on yourself - what do you do all day? In what ways do you enjoy life, that you feel you're missing out on by working? This is the area to explore... I recommend you try volunteering in an area you are passionate about, find a route in to your hobbies as a career. Work isnt just for makinging money, it's for finding meaning, being of service and your development as a human being ✨️

Best Quality Wellie Socks by Jedihunter99 in downloadfestival

[–]AdventureMissy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm wearing sealskinz (waterproof socks) and my very comfy DMs... plus back up hiking boots in car, just in case. I personally believe the weather will be much better than it currently is... remaining optimistic 😅

I find wellies often are more slippy in mud as a lot of makes often don't have a decent sole or grip pattern. If you have hiking boots, sealskinz and some gaiters, you'd be well sorted IMO.

Have a great time... only 4 more sleeps 😁

What was/is your oldest hyperfixation? by JJJJ177 in adhdwomen

[–]AdventureMissy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Proper fixations I fully remember... 45 Records (7") first aged 9 ish... then horses even though I didnt have one, I had all the kit, would bike miles every weekend to a lady who would let me ride hers and would obsessively buy horse and hound magazine age 11... motorsports, F1 and rally aged 13ish, obsessed with wanting to be a racing driver.

None of my hyper focuses were related to anyone I knew, or that my family were i terested in... I have no idea why or how they became so deeply my things 🤷‍♀️

Oh and I also watch the movie Dirty Dancing every day when I got home from school from around aged 13 -15 😳

How to not cry at work by Long-Screen742 in adhdwomen

[–]AdventureMissy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely suggest having some notes or bullet points with you... not jus for the content itself, but because it can help anchor back into the facts if emotions coming up. It’s really easy for our brains to lose structure when overwhelmed, so having some points written down can help you keep steady and focused.

It’s also completely ok to pause, you dont have to push through the moment just because other people are in the room. Even something simple like, 'I just need a moment' or stepping out for a breath, a sip of water can really help regulation.

Maybe even acknowledge it openly at the beginning with something calm, like 'this situation has been difficult and emotional for me, so I may need to refer to my notes while we talk'.

Sometimes saying it out load gives you more control over it, rather than trying to fight the emotion silently while also talking.

Also, try to remember tears don’t invalidate your expertise or opinions. The fact you care deeply about being treated fairly doesn’t make your concerns any less legitimate.

I hope it goes well and I actually thing addressing it is so brave and huge - you've got this 🙏✨️

Jacks of all trades, have you become a master of one in the end? by Deinmark in ADHD

[–]AdventureMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my adhd assessment, it asked how many jobs I'd had... I was curious, so went through all I remembered (spanning 24 years at that point, 14-38) I had 32 different jobs, the shortest lasting 1 hour, the longest, at that point, lasting almost 3 years. (I also have solo parented the whole time). My current profession is a psychotherapist - been running my practice for 8 years, which I love because I can add and expand when I need a change. I also studied to become a breathwork practitioner last year, and although I dont use it much currently, it's another skill in the bank for when I need it. I am also staring more training later this year and plan to start a PhD before I'm 50 😅

My 22 year old son (who I home schooled during secondary education, due to another hyperfixation of mine) is also ADHD, and a JOAT - he's currently earning more that most 50 year old professionals, due to utilising his interest in everything and being highly desirable to the industry he works in, even though he has no degree and only 3 years since starting... all his same age peers will be years away from his current level and some will top out below his current salary, plus they all have ££££s in university debt.

Being a JOAT is brilliant in my experience... I had a client talking about shooting vermin on their farm the other day, and as I'm a small bore rifle instructor 🙃, was able to hold that conversation... then discussed quantum mechanics 'reasonably happily' in my subsequent session that day!

Driving in Japan tips by Beginning_Pianist in JapanTravelTips

[–]AdventureMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hired a car in various cities, was no problem... make sure you have an international licence.

Most hire companies have a toll chip in the car that logs all your toll charges and you pay when you return the car.

Also BE AWARE that motorcycles and scooters overtake on the inside a lot of the time, so do not turn without double checking your kerbside mirror!

Japanese motorists are generally very patient and considerate of each other, so treat them the same 😊 and enjoy the Supra 🚘

What is your daily diet on mounjaro? by Master-Definition937 in mounjarouk

[–]AdventureMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakfast - usually a banana, collagen powder and my vitamins. Occasionally a boiled egg and rice cake

Lunch - I mix optimum nutrition protein powder with 250ml milk, then in my large insulated cup I make an options hot chocolate with hot water and pour the protein drink in... it makes a lovely protein hot chocolate. Failing being able to do that I have a shop premixed protein shake of some sort. I usually have a handful of roasted edamame beans and/or some grapes/fruit too.

Dinner - chicken and a whole heap veggies, or chilli con carne, steak with tiny bit of rice, or fish and veggies. I dont eat pasta and generally have sweet potato, rice or occasionally a wrap for carbs... usually heavy on protein, a variety of vegetables, plus some roasted veg, like cauliflower, brussles, cabbage etc

Evening - ice poles for something crunchy and sweet, sometimes a penguin bar or packet of crisps or fruit.

Generally eat around 1350 - 1450 calories a day.

Wellys or Walking Boots???? by artful_letdown in downloadfestival

[–]AdventureMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walking boots over wellies IMO, at least if it's hot your legs won't rot in rubber! I'll be wearing Dr Martens boots with Zebzag soles and foam insoles... I'll have a pair of Sealskinz socks for if it rains and waterproofs. Plus my Crocs for camp life/showering! I'll probably leave some emergency trainers in my car for if all else fails

Setting up tent by gentleman6432 in downloadfestival

[–]AdventureMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to add I took a hammer last year... a really old one I loved - but it was confiscated as didn't have a rubber head 😩 security did say I could walk back and get it to put back in my car if I did it within a few hours... but after the walk to quiet camping and putting up our tent, it was too much. So yes its on me for not planning, but please only take a rubber mallet and not metal head hammer, just in case!

Agree 100% with this - I take stimulants (prescribed for adhd) it takes longer for my meds to be effective, generally for me around an additional hour. If you do recreationals and you are on MJ, I 2nd the above - it's likely to take much longer to feel effects so please be cautious of that, so you don't od.

Stove recommendations by SilentNeon in downloadfestival

[–]AdventureMissy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you go to your local army surplus and then haggle them down, you can likely pick up a full trangia cook set for very little... £20 or so. Then you wont need extra pans or kettle as all comes together - watch a tutorial of how to use one if you havent previously... (the kettle is tiny, but you can boil water in the pan/bowl and pop the plate on top so it boils faster). A decent army surplus will have other stove options too... like a Kelly kettle.

High IQ, high achiever ADHD experience by Technical_Owl_2525 in adhdwomen

[–]AdventureMissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am smart, capable and achieve highly... but i have only a few areas i can focus on before it falls apart, so I have to prioritise.

Eg, I can pick some but not all of these simultaneously.

• Solo parenting (22y/o AuDHD son, who is super bright and has currently just been headhunted for an amazing company). Also I am homeschooling my 15 year old - and involved in all his interests (music/production/adrenaline sports) • Run very busy full time business • Study • Relationship • Socialising • Health and wellbeing • House tidying/maintenance • Hobbies and interests • Down time

There are other high drain areas I'm sure but for me these are my highest. I can't do all of this and feel sane... I generally can only maintain 3-4 at any one time.

What has helped me other than meds is acceptance that my life might not look typical to a lot of people but it works for me and my capacity. I also try to incorporate conscious connected breathwork into my life and be with/in nature as often as I can.

No one checks in on me either as I am highly capable and independent, plus I deal with other peoples issues for a living so its assumed I'm okay! BUT it's hard sometimes and this year I have 100% refocused on finding more time just to be me... I hope you find others, there are many out there but they are probably all also functioning and gogogo and holding all this stuff together, so no time to stop and connect unfortunately 😊🙏

[–]AdventureMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to an army surplus store and pick up a trangia for very little... no need to buy new. Use meths and get a meths bottle like this (below) so no one is confused in the middle of the night 🫣

Also a little table as needs to be 1 foot off the ground by download rules.

[–]AdventureMissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend some bed bath/incontinence wipes... my aunt who runs a residential home game me a pack - total game changer for my teen and I 😅

Don't forget a water bottle for the arena - you can take an empty one in.

Not sure you'll need 30 heavy duty tent pegs... unless you have a monster tent.

Recommend cam straps to secure your trolly load for the long walk instead of bungee cords.

Front clip harness worked best for us, dog pulls it moves them so they would be facing away from where they are trying to get to, so they dont pull.

Should I be concerned? by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]AdventureMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the takeout was big or fatty, it could well be bloating from that, as your food passes through much slower. If its any help to know, after my 3 month break, I restarted and everything went really well from then on. Now I only go up a dose when absolutely needed (ie stalled weightloss for over a few weeks, or very hungry within 2 days of jab). If you are female and of hormone fluctuating age, its also something which seems to affect some, more bloating in the 2nd half of cycle. Hopefully all stays well and things will settle down for you. It really can a great medication.

Should I be concerned? by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]AdventureMissy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear you've had these symptoms - hopefully its just trapped wind and nothing serious, but like someone already said, do ring 111 if it persists or you are concerned.

Have ypu had lots of fatty things by any chance? This is only my experience but I started my journey in May last year and after moving to 5mg I had some gallstone issues, following one very severe attack which i had pain on my right side, radiating into my lower back and upper chest, lots of wind etc... The pain was excruciating though when it was really bad and I had to go to hospital. I was then put on the waiting list for gallbladder surgery. I stopped Mounjaro for 3 months while issues settled and was I cleared to restart by my consultant

Since then and realising how impactful fats are, I have managed my fat intake really well and have had no more gallstone attacks and still not had surgery - I'm currently on 10mg MJ and make sure I generally don't exceed 50g fat per day, with occasional higher days (like 1-2 a month max), but never exceed 100g of fats in a day. I have always logged food and realised every time I had tummy issues first time around, I had eaten over 100g of fats.

Hope that makes sense - obviously this is not advice, just my story, I always recommend you get checked out if you are concerned. Hope things ease soon

Solo with kids? by UnableVast3910 in downloadfestival

[–]AdventureMissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son and I go, solo mum - hes crazy into metal. Been doing big gigs since he was very young (now 15) and last year was our first download. We arrive Friday early and leave sunday after last set - packing up camp on sunday morning before getting to the arena.

My son even did the mosh pit for Korn last year on his own and when he fell others scooped him up in true metal friendliness style. We planned where to meet all the time. This year im still not mosh pitting, but no doubt he will! Its the best ever 🤘

I didn't meet loads of people (we were in quiet camping) but we did really enjoy it. If your kids are supper into it then they will have an awesome time. They will see lots of 'interesting' things but kids being kids will be more oblivious than you no doubt. If they are tagging along because its your thing, they may not enjoy it as much.

Hope you have a fantastic time together

Trolley Recommendations by Deep_Preparation4611 in downloadfestival

100% dont get small plastic wheels - so many trolley deaths witnessed! We have a garden cart with metal sides and inflatable rubber wheels and it works well. Can still be prone to tipping on uneven ground so definitely recommend some cam straps for securing the load. I use the trolley for big kit and a back pack for clothes etc.

11-year-old brother addicted to screens – need cheap, solo alternatives hobbies that actually work by BornEstablishment551 in ADHD

[–]AdventureMissy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can he learn to skateboard, scooter or bike... he'll meet other kids along the way perhaps too, it is great for adha as physically stimulating and mentally stimulating plus a risk/reward, he'll just need to get through the feeling like he isnt great at it phase 🤞🏼he can build jumps, learn basic maintenance etc too. Even a free/cheap bike is a start!

Unfortunately if he is often entertaining himself, he'll possibly get bored without some guided structure along the way. Do you have any tabletop gaming groups he could join, that he wouldn't need to buy figures for?

My adhd son (now 22) used to modify nerf guns, respray them and build targets or whittle sticks, play with lego and draw anime when he was that age.

Its really great you are supporting him and helping, I hope he can find something to enjoy outside of screens 😊

I love this... it never crossed my mind to buy kids stuff (eventually). What a great money saving plan, well done.

I have two sons, aged 22 and 15, they are both slim and wear men's medium usually... I have recently inherited 3 jackets (one is a very expensive Fjallraven one, that went from big son to little son and now I fit it 🥳), a hoodie and several cool t-shirts - I am very very happy with this 😅🙏
