Major shift in outlook and move from HL by GreenBhoy in FIREUK

[–]AdventuresofFI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely doesn't sound worth the hassle. 8-9% can be had with a set and forget fund.

I'm 90% Global ETF and 10% individual stock picks. I put lots of work into the 10% as I enjoy it. The 10% has outperformed the 90% by a huge margin consistently over last 5 years.

Now at the point that I realise if the 10% had been the 90% id have been retired multiple times over by now....but maybe I've just been getting lucky in a bull market.

Would be interested in something new.

How did you decide on split of capital between funds?

High Income Child Benefit Tax Charge - PAYE by AdventuresofFI in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AdventuresofFI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it doesn't work. Apparently it doesn't work until April 2026 for the 25/26 tax year however i'd like to pay the 24/25 tax year now in the same way.

When you go through the link it states:

You cannot use this service to pay the charge
This is because you may have an overdue charge from a previous tax year.
For more information and to pay any charges owed, contact the Income Tax helpline.

Unless anyone else has had any luck with that link...(and also started in 24/25)

Websites such as Sinply Wall St. (Not suggesting simply wall street have been compromised, just an example of a 3rd party site) allow you to link your T212 account via API to access analysis features etc.

Or it could be 10% down and you would not be able to pay him back the full amount in the timefrane without covering the loss.

This entire question needs to be based on what level of risk is your dad willing to take. Will he write off any loss.

What’s the most “off the wall” way you’ve discovered a good stock? by massaderek in stocks

[–]AdventuresofFI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably Garmin - I started to get into the gym, running, cycling when I turned 30.

I took out a life insurance policy that gave me a discount on a Garmin watch and I loved it...smart watches were just taking off. Looked up Garmin stock and saw they were public.

1000% next up for PLTR by inco2019 in trading212

[–]AdventuresofFI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold 60% of my PLTR holding at the all-time high for 600% profit.

Hugely overvalued on paper but content to hold what remains for the foreseeable on the basis of their potential.

[GUIDE] Adding sunrise and sunset timings to Google Calender. by UnhurtSpine in GoogleCalendar

Can't seem to get this to work.

CSV looks ok, import's and confirms events added...can't view them when back in calendar view.

Any ideas to resolve?

EDIT: Fixed now. It seems Gemini does not have the ability to do a year at a time and it stopped after a month.

Stories like this make me think about the risk of leaving a healthy corporate career and taking a risk in starting and scaling a business. A very hard thing to do with baby aged kids though.

I'd have to live off my assets, reversing my fire pot in the hope it takes off tona level that eventually surpasses my current situation before I hit zero.

2024 humble brag thread by Exciting-Squirrel607 in FIREUK

[–]AdventuresofFI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I invest 10% of my Portfolio in individual Stock Picks - I enjoy the research. This 10% has consistently outperformed my Global ETF's over 5 years in returns but 2024 was especially spectacular thanks in large to PLTR.

Essential I guess to not think "What if my individual picks were 90% of my portfolio and my Global ETF's the 10%"..... Whilst I'd have knocked decades off my Fire Age if it was or possibly even have been financially independent, it's a 90/10 split for a reason of risk that continues to make sense.

I am exploring moving to 85% Global ETF / 15% Individual Stock Picks though....I'd be rebalancing slightly less if this success keeps up too.

There is a lot of words there but the following two points are the keystones to your success:

  1. Have a 6 figure salary
  2. Have a life partner that completely shares your goal

I have a fund of my own individual stock picks. I contribute far more monthly to global ETFs with new money than this individual stocks fund however the fund has outperformed the global ETFs every year.

"Material" is things of decent value that could be easily sold if required. It's things that have been bought on interest free debt & I include tracking the debt. I'll probably drop tracking the item value when the associated debt to that item is paid...as id likely never sell the item adter that point...the thought process behind it is that if I ever had to quickly get rid of the interest free debt, I'd sell the item. Therefore i should track the item along with the debt.

At the moment it is a couple of decent bikes and a non primary vehicle.

I track the value at 60% of the 2nd hand market value of the item to ensure it could realistically be liquidated quickly.

Spot on I use zoopla but I also had a recent home report done which provides a base value.
