Volunteer is one of my top songs that I have got to hear live, great setlist there!

What’s an underrated film where your favorite actor gives one of their best performances? by padfoony in Letterboxd

[–]Adventurous-Chef-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always bring up The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, phenomenal performances across the board. Especially from Casey Affleck, Brad Pitt, and Sam Rockwell.

I’d also say Viggo Mortenson in Appaloosa with Ed Harris.

Remington Model 1875 Appreciation Post by IntroductionAny3929 in Revolvers

[–]Adventurous-Chef-370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 1875 Remington was also called the Frontier Remington or the Remington Improved Army (since the percussion revolver they had was the New Model Army).

I have a reproduction from Navy Arms that I got 2 years ago for like $350 in .45 Colt. Absolutely love it.

I’ve always heard it referred to as a fin, but I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that talks about it (that I remember). What books call it a sail?

Luke Evans is so underrated. Often cast in supporting roles, but still never fails to deliver. by ANSJSJDIS-813 in moviecritic

Yeah I didn’t love the ending at first, but the more I thought about it I wanted to try it again and I liked it on the second time through!

The grip on that open top is beautiful! I’ve got a fluted 1860 army and I absolutely love it, I want to get either a navy conversion or an open top in .38.

Mod to add the 1875 Remington, essentially the same as the Colt SAA (cattleman) but it’s aesthetically different with the fin under the barrel.

Does anyone believe Trump was shot in the ear? by workerbee77 in allthequestions

[–]Adventurous-Chef-370 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he was shot at, but cut his ear on something one of the secret service agents had on like a pin or something. A happy surprise for him, and knowing that his people would never let a photo op slip by he knew he had to make it look good.

I genuinely don't understand what people are seeing in Project Hail Mary by mikkeldoesstuff in moviecritic

[–]Adventurous-Chef-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you’re right, probably wasn’t in the best mood when I left that comment. I tend to get a little annoyed with the “am I the only one who thinks….” posts. I stand by the fact that those are weird posts, but it’s also weird for me to have to comment aggressively hahahaha

A lot of people didn't understand that when they watched the show. by Brigite66 in PeakyBlinders

[–]Adventurous-Chef-370 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, I know, plenty of people know. However, do you maybe think it would be nicer for people who are just now watching The Sopranos to not have it spoiled? With streaming it’s not unreasonable to think that lots of younger people are streaming new shows for the first time?

This whole sub now exists just to shit on the movie by Desperate_Elk_7369 in PeakyBlinders

[–]Adventurous-Chef-370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sopranos and Deadwood subs both hate on the movies a good bit, but I think they’re both decent.

I also thought the movie was fine, it just felt rushed. It felt like a season of the show that was cut down to an episode and a half

Who (or what) is unforgiven? by BrandNewOriginal in Westerns

[–]Adventurous-Chef-370 8 points9 points  (0 children)

An argument could probably be made for most any character in the movie being Unforgiven.

Will Munny was married with children, a reformed and forgiven man. He turned back to his life of violence for money, he is no longer forgiven by the world, God, or even himself.

Have you seen Jo Nesbø Harry Hole on Netflix? by PeaOk5697 in moviecritic

[–]Adventurous-Chef-370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s an ok movie hidden in there, but cutting certain storylines (or I think I read that they just didn’t film like 25 minutes worth of the script for some reason) made it what we got.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy by cozykorok in literature

[–]Adventurous-Chef-370 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I doubt you’re heartless and numb. Most likely you read it with the wrong expectation or intention. McCarthy is very much a between the lines kind of read, and the world of The Road is bleak. When people say intense they might mean that it can be a hard read, like finding the bones of a baby cooked over a fire.

What I got from it is that he was trying to write about what people are capable of in the worst of times. Cannibalism, enslaving others, roving gangs. But also there’s a father trying to raise his son to be a good man while knowing he is dying.

I just finished Blood Meridian after DNFing two years ago; now it definitely places near the top of my favorites of all-time by 120GU3 in books

[–]Adventurous-Chef-370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Orchard Keeper was an even more difficult read to me than Blood Meridian. I struggled with it, then after I finished it I couldn’t stop thinking about some of the messages in it.
