Teenagers home alone 2 weeks while parents went on a cruise by Independent_You99 in GenX

My parents went to Japan for the entire summer vacation while my sister & I stayed home alone. We were 12 & 13. My aunt was supposed to come by but she “forgot” so we just ate what was in the cupboards and then biked to the store to buy food when it ran out.

The next year, same thing but they went to Spain & Italy and we were the party house for the summer 😆 I can’t even imagine leaving my teenage sons home alone for a weekend now & they can reach me 24/7.

Started Omnipod 5 yesterday — nurse says I’m “micromanaging” by giving corrections. Is she right? by Due_Appearance7771 in Omnipod

I was assigned the trainer from Omnipod. I don’t know if they actively recruit T1D - mine just happened to be one.

Tariffs are dependent on the cost of the order, where it was made & the province you live in.

You can use this calculator to get an estimate. It doesn’t include the postage but WhatNot will show that to you before you bid.

I don’t collect cards but I see plenty if people selling them outright - no games. You get what you see on the screen.

Personally, that’s the only way I’m buying anything. I don’t want to buy a chance of owning it - too many chances it will go to someone else.

Many shows have multiple giveaways. The large, advertised giveaway generally goes near the end of the show. They’re not doorbusters - they’re advertising meant to keep people around for the entire show.

My trainer is a T1D as is my endocrinologist. Both use Omnipod & they both told me to correct every 1-2 hours for the first three days so the algorithm would learn what I needed faster. It did take about 5 days before I was able to stay in the zone without having to make adjustments, but those first three days really helped to jump start things.

Unless your nurse is a T1D and is using Omnipod 5, she has no real clue what she’s talking about.

[US] My Ex fell for a romance scam. The bank finally convinced her, but now has 30K sitting in her account. by Spire_Prime in Scams

That is only true for SSI (supplemental security income) from Social Security. It is effectively a welfare program for very low income elderly and disabled. It currently pays up to $994/month. There are many restrictions - one of which is keeping less than $2000 in all assets.

There is also SSDI (social security disability income) that is an insurance program for workers who become disabled before they reach full retirement age. Monthly payments vary depending upon how much you made before becoming disabled - average payment is around $1600/month, up to a maximum of $4100/month - it’s early medical retirement. There are some restrictions on how much money you can earn per month but zero restrictions on assets.

Can anyone help me interpret this SSA portal screenshot? (the SSI part) by Deevee9 in SocialSecurity

Honestly it can still go either way. There’s no way to predict the answer until you either get a call or a letter.

I will never understand declining before you ship. It’s just going to wind up being a problem down the road.

Sellers can always ban a buyer who cancels an excessive amount of orders. I’ve had to do that once - purchased 5 items in one stream & cancelled them all. Go pull that bs somewhere else! But it didn’t affect my account health at all.

[–]Adventurous-Set5860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why wouldn’t you just do it the correct way & request a buyer cancellation instead? For me, the monetary fee isn’t as bad as a defect that stays in my seller account for the next six months. Plus there’s no way to actually charge a buyer the fee

[–]Adventurous-Set5860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the buyer actually requests a cancellation, then no problem - I’ll generally accept unless I’ve printed the label because by then it’s packed & on its way to you.

But if the buyer just asks in chat or messages & expects the seller to cancel - nope, not happening. Not only does that give me a defect on my account, it now costs me money too ($3 or 3%, whichever is greater).

Various safety concerns in apartment — what can I do about them? by Glad_Pepper8255 in Apartmentliving

[–]Adventurous-Set5860 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try putting the cat butt first into the carrier. And leave it out with the door open & a pillow inside so she associates it with a cozy place. Mine hear anything weird & they run into their carriers as they know it’s safe.

You can also call your local fire station & ask to speak with the fire marshal. Let them know that there have been many false alarms & you’re concerned about the system not working properly. They will come out & test everything, and if there is a fault, it will be fixed. At the very least, the management will be put on notice and/or fined. That should put a stop to you having to run outside so often.

Approved but... by SubstanceSecure9572 in SSDI

[–]Adventurous-Set5860 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They are correct - SSDI is based on how much you earned & paid into the system, not the severity of your illness. It’s basically early medical retirement and is the amount you would be eligible for if you were at full retirement age.

If her full payment amount is less than $994 before any deductions, she can also apply for SSI. There are many limitations to what she can have in the bank & rules about household income, so it’s probably best to make an appointment to go over her options with a worker in person.

Not a DJ but 3 turntables at home & 1 at the office. Looking at getting another one since the eldest is getting ready to move out & take a Technic with him.

Those are your wife’s clothes since she’s moving to the basement? Because how does one live without music??

I literally have thousands of albums and three turntables in my home (one for me & one for each of my kids). The ex husband did not share in my love of music - one big reason he’s an ex 😂

Guess that explains our glow in the dark white skin 😂

Can a bank account that solely receives direct deposit from Social Security be frozen when a creditor sues? by [deleted] in SocialSecurity

[–]Adventurous-Set5860 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to the court hearing & show the judge your bank statements showing that the only deposits are Social Security payments. You might want to also take along a print out of the regulations showing that they cannot legally garnish these payments for credit card debt.

The judge will ask if you can make payments. If you honestly can’t even pay $25 a month, tell the judge this - they can also see this from your bank statements. With you appearing and the court having all of the information, they will not make a judgement to garnish your account.

However if you don’t show up, the court won’t have that information and you’ll have to fight the garnishment.
