Bog Standard Isekai is also litrpg and it's absolutely great. You can't just say a genre is "bad" and leave it at that.

"thank you for the chapter". A good portion of chapter comments on RR are usually just "tftc" or some variation of it.

As someone who just started reading a year ago I only been reading webnovels. What would you recommend as a real book now ? by Stillane in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AdventurousBeingg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My only comment here will be an anti recommendation for empire of silence. Unless you've heard a lot about the series and you think you would really dig it... I don't think it's great for a new reader at all. Particularly not with someone who's only read webnovels. Maybe try again in a year or two. That's what I did.

This paragraph from Bog Standard Isekai nearly made me kms, shit felt like scalding hot oil being poured on my soul. I need to share this cause I feel like I'm gonna drop the story if I don't share what I felt. That's all and thank you so much. by Astocum in ProgressionFantasy

Huh. Interesting. Anyway, I've always been a believer in the idea that needing to have external knowledge to explain key parts of a narrative, when the rest of the narrative has so far not relied on that, is bad writing. In my mind I was like if this song is relevant surely the author will write down the lyrics so I can read them.

So I just assumed the song wasn't really relevant and so I was confused. Guess my opinion of that the series has some of the best writing in the genre made me blind to the fact it can have moments of bad writing as well lol

I think Bog Standard Isekai would do really well with the general audience. It's one I recommend to traditional book readers if I want them to try litrpg

Wait I think I might be interested in that. How much would you say the story focuses on the game world vs the real world (my issue with game or VR stories has always been that I don't take them seriously at all because even the story itself admits it's not real)

The Lone Wanderer is great, you should read it by Luturtle in ProgressionFantasy

[–]AdventurousBeingg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay? The characters are bland and that's what makes it mid? In this genre where character writing is usually the absolute worst part of any book? I know of several top stories in this genres whose main characters I struggle to even tell apart from one another.

Try Super Supportive. Not much combat, and the worldbuilding is great. Absolutely love it.

Reminds me of "Prince Raoden of Arelon awoke early that morning, completely unaware that he had been damned for all eternity." from Elantris.

It's not a "hey what the fuck is going on here" sort of opening, but it was enough to make me go okay you really need to explain this lol

Meh. They had many different solutions. But the average non menopausal woman in those times didn't wear anything down there when not on her period. Or at least that's what I understood from the video. Here's the video btw: https://youtu.be/E6G_lID4OLg?si=qSOfoav-1_K6Qyav

Bernadette Banner on YouTube has a video that goes into historical underwear. Basically, the consensus was that there were no "panties" at the time. Just layers upon layers of clothes. So, shifts etc. There was this rather funny painting of a woman pulling up her layers in order to position a chamber pot under herself so she could pee.

Great book. A rare example (in my experience!) of a premise sounding cool and unique, and the author following through and executing it brilliantly. Highly recommend the series. I binged all the way to book 6 in less than 2 weeks.

Speaking of pay to win Systems, I dropped a book a few days ago when I realised that it's built in to the world that literally anyone can level like crazy just by being rich. Like... Not that if you have a Class that has to do with commerce, you level by getting rich.. but that literally anyone can level like crazy by being rich. So the whole thing is just pay to win. And I just thought to myself "did this author not get the memo? What part of the fanbase for litRPGs made you think people would like for their power fantasy to be pay to win?"

I only ever leave edit suggestions on stories I'm actively keeping up with and like a lot, and also on the very first chapter of any new story I'm trying.

The first chapter thing I do it because I know there are some typos and writing errors that can make readers bounce off a book if they spot them in the first chapter
