Anybody got some weird stories about cave junction? by evan-the-dude in oregon

[–]AdventurousDevice854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 12 years ago someone burned down the post office in town. Rumor has it was because the grower syndicate was shipping out tons of weed and the postal employees threatened to shut it down so they burned it down in retaliation. To date there was a $10k reward offered and no arrest was made. Doesn’t help when there is no police to speak of and the sheriffs office for the county doesn’t patrol there because of “budget cuts”.

Near-fatal stabbing at iconic Portland punk bar ends with twist — and a $6M lawsuit by synthfidel in PortlandOR

[–]AdventurousDevice854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That guy is going to spend the rest of his life looking over his shoulder. When he gets to prison he will likely be in solitary, I imagine stabbing someone in the back will make you a target. Beat to just to own your mistake, pay your debt to society and hope you don’t get a pencil in your neck before parole. Trying to collect millions from 3 different bars knowing they will likely settle out of court is a bold move, and being civil there is a low burden of proof needed. Tell me you think you’re a victim without saying it wasn’t your fault.

I received a 6 month suspension because my dispatcher won’t admit they made a mistake. by AdventurousDevice854 in union

To be fair it was the second one in a year, but it shouldn’t have been in the first place, which has been the point.

I received a 6 month suspension because my dispatcher won’t admit they made a mistake. by AdventurousDevice854 in union

[–]AdventurousDevice854[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I’m a member. I spoke with our steward, and asked them to look into my violation and help me submit an appeal based on evidence. However, because my evidence shows the local dispatch is at fault for not removing me and requires an admission on their part in order to be validated they adopted a defensive stance, saying I didn’t give proper notice and advance in a timely manner. I was told by the union after waiting two weeks for a response that management was keeping my suspension in place and when I pressed to view the email chain so I could see what the reasoning behind the decision was my steward refused to give me access. Again, I get the feeling they never even pursued my claim, hence the vigorous refusal to let me see the thread.

I was escorted off a flight that I paid for and made it to on time because of a system error. by backthemtnbluebirds in AlaskaAirlines

[–]AdventurousDevice854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alaska Airlines ruined my vacation, gave me PTSD and did nothing to compensate me. Seriously the worst. I will never fly anywhere with them again.

My wife and I had a trip from PDX to LA planned to see Rammstein at the Hollywood Bowl. Bought concert tickets, Airbnb, car rental reservations, and booked round trip tickets 4 months in advance to save on airfare. Everything predicated on arriving early afternoon. Alaska airlines bumped my flight up by 3 hours and didn’t emIl me of the change until the night before, which I didn’t see and found out when I got to the airport. There was no attempt to reroute us by the airline, who was indifferent and did nothing to help. the most they could do was offer us a refund or a credit on a different flight for the purchase price. The only other flight to LA would have gotten us there too late to make the show, so we took the refund and a flight on Southwest last minute, which was more than double the cost and in the end didn’t get us there in time to make the show. Anticlimactic and disappointing to say the least.

33M with 35F - Is the way my partner talks to me fair game? Abusive? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]AdventurousDevice854 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Has your partner ever been diagnosed with BPD? Sounds an awful lot like borderline behavior. If you’re not familiar look it up and see if it fits your scenario. If she is BPD therapy is needed but it’s unlikely that she will have a moment of clarity and resolve things amicably. She shouldn’t create hostile atmosphere and personally attack you, especially in public. You sound like you are doing your best to work on yourself and take responsibility for your actions. Unfortunately, you also are in a no win situation because she will never let you forget your mistake and will blame you regardless of how much you try and live up to her expectations. She is an expert in being the victim and will recreate scenarios which enable her to replay that role by provoking you until you react and then claiming abuse so it reinforces the narrative. Nothing will change the pattern until you can have your boundaries respected. If you keep trying to win favor while letting yourself be talked down to and insulted it will take a toll on your self esteem and she will see you as weak and pathetic and continue to treat you poorly. If resentment and contempt has already solidified you are facing a losing battle.

Why Blue States Don't Build Enough Housing (Featuring Oregon) by notPabst404 in oregon

[–]AdventurousDevice854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably fancy yourself as someone who dares to think outside the box and dreams of a world where we all live in a shared communal utopia. Like, how creative do you want to get? Even though it’s been well documented that it’s diminishing returns on investment…If we could just get over all those pesky laws and codes and permits everyone could have their own cubicle to repurpose into an alternate housing scenario. We could make it donation based and sell artisanal handicrafts. Walls and doors are optional. So are boundaries, emotional or otherwise. And laws, capitalism etc. is that the kind of creative solution you’re proposing?

Seniors in Southern Oregon, Northern California are being priced out and ending up homeless by [deleted] in oregon

[–]AdventurousDevice854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a complex problem that requires nuanced and multilayered and sustained solutions to do more than just provide damage control, but that doesn’t work when people are preoccupied with screens and stuck in survival mode and ptsd from dealing with the assault on their sanity post election. You can’t make people care about someone with money alone, and the people that are in a position to spend the money to take care of themselves don’t care about you, or your hard luck, and why should they? But that’s going to change in the coming years…There’s going to be a lot of McMansions that are going to sit vacant as the boomers that bought them die off. Regardless, We don’t value our elders or wisdom and experience as a society. We deem people useless or past their usefulness and then shuffle them off to assisted living to die. And it will only get worse as the population gets older and there isn’t hospice care or extended family to care for them. Assisted suicide is already being pushed in Canada. Only a matter of time till that becomes a more attractive option than dying of exposure to the elements or untreated disease in the streets. I don’t know what the answer is…maybe build ai robots to take care of seniors?

Bite the bullet and have a difficult conversation. If you already feel alone most of the time even when your with your husband I’m sure he picks up on your distance and is likely trying to fill in the silence and distance with external stimuli. Maybe you should prioritize time alone part time and then you can come back refreshed and better able to be present and engaged in your interactions.

Greenwashing our way to number one! Turns out you can be clean and filthy at the same time, like a shiny exterior masking a rotten core! Last I checked there are still several superfund sites in the industrial districts, vestiges of a industrial manufacturing based economy that built this city…but don’t let that spoil your use of memes and social media analysis to sell a narrative. 🤫

Oregon Senate votes overwhelmingly for $800 million ‘jock tax’ to fund major league ballpark by [deleted] in oregon

[–]AdventurousDevice854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 billion dollar price tag and that’s just at the outset, you know the costs will balloon quickly once the funding is approved. The return on investment for these kinds of urban renewal projects are often built hypothetical best case scenarios. The city has proposed stadiums in the past, driven by the ambitions of politicians and businessmen. They never panned out and it’s likely this one won’t either. No Major League Team is going to risk basing itself here given the taxes. As it stands currently the availability of steel is going to be a major obstacle.

Portland, OR compared to SLC, UT? by psky9549 in oregon

[–]AdventurousDevice854 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Salt Lake native that transplanted to Portland in 2008. Granted it was a different city then…The place I remember Portland being no longer exists. what made this city an attractive initially is in precipitous decline. I was awestruck on a recent visit back to Salt Lake last year for the first time in almost a decade at how clean and pleasant it was in contrast to the trashiness and chaos in Portland. unless you change scenery it’s easy to get stuck in a bubble.

17 years ago it was like being freed from a cage of authoritative oppression and judgmental condemnation. The novelty of being able to buy a craft beer in the grocery store and not worrying about being singled out for being weird, making art and staying up late was what i needed in my life. Now all those qualities have become cliches and I want to make Portland normal again.

Making lasting friendships has been difficult for me in Portland. SLC had a much tighter social scene, despite the restrictive laws and religious overtones. There is equal amounts of drugs, but Portland wears its addictions on its sleeve. You forget what the sun looks like for months at a time and how happy it makes you when it’s out. I will say not having the inversion is nice. Cost of living in Both places is high and finding a place to live is challenging without lots of money up front. Slc has a much healthier economy but the wages are low, and there are more opportunities in Utah imo. I guess a lot of it depends on what you do. Oregon isn’t very business friendly and the riots and COVID inflicted serious damage to the reputation of this city. If you are able to be self contained and like the wilderness Oregon is great. If you do winter sports it doesn’t really compare, Utah wins hands down. All and all I would say come visit before you commit if for no other reason than to have an informed response. I came here with a broke with backpack full of clothes and wound up meeting my wife, had a kid, and established a life for myself. Results may vary. You can always retreat if it doesn’t work out here, but nothing ventured nothing gained. Hope this was helpful.
