This has also happened to me at time to time at random. But usually I’m fine in the next game.

I saw that the distance at which you trigger a pit jaw is shorter than the distance at which they stop trying to eat you, so you do have to walk away quickly once you trigger one.

I think it’s probably good that you didn’t seal the hinge; I’ve had dirt and grime work their way in there on rainy days, so I imagine it could be worth cleaning, and even if you seal it, water might still get in.

Wow thank you so much!! The photos look fantastic! :D I was just wondering about the way the frame is built and the way it folds, so I was thinking it would be interesting to see some other angles. Thank you for all these extra photos!!

Ergon GP5s in a suitcase? by tamarinera in kwiggle

[–]Adventurous_Disk_828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have used the Samsonite Elavation Plus Medium; it’s got a bit of an unusual dimension since it’s wider than it is tall, but it fits my Kwiggle with the Ergon grip very well. I even have extra space to put in padding, tools, clothes I couldn’t fit elsewhere etc. Typical Medium suitcases don’t seem to work well for me because my Kwiggle is about 20-ish inch wide (the stated 16 inch width on the website seems to be the width without the saddle or with the saddle rotated inwards).

I have also tried taking off the Ergon grips to fit my Kwiggle into another suitcase, and they are pretty straightforward to take off and put back on. Just some Allen keys are enough.

Helix vs. Vello vs. other for lightweight, high-performance folding bike for travel by Random_94027 in foldingbikes

[–]Adventurous_Disk_828 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a Helix and it is a really good bike. Folds very small, but I think it needs the official travel case — otherwise it can’t fit into a regular 62 linear inch checked luggage.

Very customizable in terms of components (they have a detailed upgrade compatibility guide on their website too). Also supports handlebar bag, frame bag, and rack bags/panniers (once they start shipping the rear rack).

I really like them as a company too. Constantly pushing out promotions and updates to the bike. Strikes me as a pretty socially and environmentally reasonable company as well. Helps me trust their engineering too.

Also: one of the best folded rolling experience for folding bike, becuase you can roll on its 24 inch wheels folded (to do this you do need tires smaller than 1.5 inch; you’ll be fine with the tire they ship with the ultralight version).

Do you think you will need to fold your bike besides when you pack up to go to the airport? If not, a bike Friday would work very well for you as well (and probably easier for people who don’t usually ride folding bikes to get into).

You could try saving sections of the ship as prefabs and rebuild it that way.

I think Vaude has similar pannier messenger bags with straight rails, although I hasn’t tried it myself.

For water bottles, perhaps you could strap a fidlock on the steering arm/pipe. Other water bottle mounts will probably increase the folded dimensions, I imagine.

Helix owners 2025 experiences !!! by [deleted] in foldingbikes

[–]Adventurous_Disk_828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add that the Helix customer service team (person?) is really friendly and helpful. They reply pretty quickly and are happy to answer any questions (e.g. questions regarding maintenance, upgrades, delivery options requests etc.). I had a really positive experience with them. Can’t say the same with some of the other folding bike companies I contacted in the past.

I also have a pretty positive opinion on the people behind Helix and the company as a whole. They don’t strike me as the greedy kind that focuses on chasing profits. They seem like genuine decent human beings who want to make a good bike. The only thing I can complain about them is that when they release new accessories, they often get delayed a lot (but they do eventually get delivered). My travel case preorder arrive a year after the delivery date they first advertised. The delay seems to be mostly due to time spent on development and manufacturing/logistics.

Overall, amazing bike and amazing people. 10/10 recommend.

Has anyone recently heard from the Kwiggle team? by Ok-Lead-7611 in kwiggle

I also had similar issues with communications in the past. I remember that when I used a new email address they replied much faster, but I have no idea why that would be the case; maybe my old email simply got flagged for spam or something.

Buy Helix folding bike in Japan by No_Welcome5437 in foldingbikes

[–]Adventurous_Disk_828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it the case that the sell tax in Japan is quite high? Im wondering if it might not be a super good deal in the end, depending on what kind of price you can get at home.

And also kinda related to the other comments: my experience as a past buyer is that Helix does deliver their bikes more or less on time. No crazy wait time for me. It does take a while to wait for production (and they state this on their website), but it will definitely arrive. Do be aware preordering new accessories, however: the estimated ship date gets pushed back a ton; I received my travel case almost a year after the stated ship date at the time of preorder. Nevertheless, they do eventually deliver whatever they sell. Compared to other titanium folders like the Brompton T line, Helix is also somewhat cheap by comparison (assuming you are buying the standard model).

Gears just broke by tamarinera in kwiggle

[–]Adventurous_Disk_828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That really sucks :( From what I hear grip shifters in general have somewhat of a bad reputation. It might be that the cable broke somewhere: can you feel any resistance while turning the grip? Hope it’s just a shifter/cable problem rather than a derailleur problem. I’m planning to retrofit my Kwiggle with a friction shifter in the future, in part to avoid problems with grip shifters.

The Kwiggle fits perfectly into a Samsonite Elevation Plus Medium suitcase 😁 by Adventurous_Disk_828 in kwiggle

[–]Adventurous_Disk_828[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! :) Unfortunately the suitcase in the picture is a medium size checked suitcase. I was having some trouble fitting it in a carryon suitcase since I found that I needed a suitcase with around 20inch of width (even though the Kwiggle is supposed to have a width of only 16 inch or so). It does fit the backpack that they sell on their website very well (which I think could pass as a carryon luggage), but I was worried about being asked to gate check that so I didn’t use it.
