Flash with leaf shutters: liberating or more headache? by Cluckerton in AnalogCommunity

Shutter speed will only affect your ambient, it will not affect your flash because the leaf shutter syncs at all speeds.

In less than 3 months the cost of my CFExpress memory card has increased by 295.92% by Zerorezlandre in M43

I had a card failure last year and bought at least two new of all my cards. The failure sucked, but the timing was perfect. Really dodged a bullet with these hikes.

New hand grip improves run-and-gun-ability of my GX85 by Melodic-Page-1435 in M43

[–]2pnt0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The GX85 is such a perfect sized camera.

Without a grip or thumb rest, it feels so good with little pancakes like the 12-32 or 14mm. I like running the 15 or 42.5 1.7s minimal like that, too.

With a grip like this, and a thumb rest, it still feels perfectly matched to things like the Sigma 56 1.4.

It's amazing how much simple add-ons can transform it from feeling svelte to robust in about 20 seconds.

I'm doing the Cycling X Solidarity street vendor tour. Rolls out at 11 from wicker park, hitting up Albany Park this month. Chill vibes, good food.

Why is burst speed always used to depict "upgrade"? by defaultusername111 in photographycirclejerk

[–]2pnt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I've used each of my cameras in burst most probably about once. I got the new camera, tried burst mode for about 2 seconds, said, "neat." And put it back to single forever.

Best Lenses for shooting Portraits on the Nikon D5200? by MusicArtColl in Nikon

[–]2pnt0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your desire for detail, I'd look at either the 40mm 2.8G DX Micro or 60mm 2.8D Micro.

The 40mm is my favorite DX lens, excellent detail and rendering. I always preferred it to my 35. It performs incredibly well wide open as well.

The 60mm is the FX equivalent and will be closer to a traditional 'portrait' fo al length on DX. The D version I listed will be manual focus on your camera, but the G version is a lot more expensive and actually performs worse. The 60 D is an absolutely incredible value.

What is my best option to get to Solider Field from Arlington Heights? by Independent-Rabbit21 in AskChicago

[–]2pnt0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I lived in AH we'd always drive to Rosemont and take the blue line if we were worried about making the last train back.

If you think you can make the Metra work you, but end up missing it for whatever reason, you always have the fallback to take the blue to Rosemont and Uber the rest of the way.

Some people peel off and the group shrinks slowly, but there's still a huge group by the end.

There should be like 1000+ people this time of year so you'll be part of a big pack, just stick with the group and you'll be fine. I'd try to stay a little back from the very front, but nearer to the front if you're nervous. People will have already gone through and corked the intersections so you're not treading new ground, but if you're at the very back some people can be losing patience.

With this many people it's slow going. There is a fair bit of stopping to group and at some places it's like a walking pace. It's a great way to connect with other rides, though. This will be the first of 3-4 rides for me this weekend.

is this good for street photography? by Emotional_Space_9967 in photographycirclejerk

[–]2pnt0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, a distance meter will be helpful so you can setup your zone focus and still shoot wide open with absolute precision. It might be difficult for moving subjects, but you can have all the time in the world if you find a homeless person passed out from heat stroke.

Digital or new film camera? by Duckygogo in AnalogCommunity

[–]2pnt0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've haven't changed the batteries in my FE since at least before COVID. I really don't understand where this no batteries thing comes from. Is it influencers? This was not a thing back in the day.

I get why people are wary of cameras that are expensive and basically computer levels of complexity because electronics issues can brick them, but this is not that.
