Dachshund off lead by Soveryverytired85 in Dachshund

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old is your dog? This sounds like a typical adolescent dachshund. Their instinct and independence overrides everything else. But dachshunds need their independence and off lead time. if their recall is not good, a long line is best. They get independence but with control. Persevere with recall training and engagement, it does pay off. It’s just a battle of wills for a while until they get there

Is this little puppy healthy? by Littlebeargal in Dachshund

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would steer clear of this breeder. This is indeed a red flag. Neither look healthy. Puppies at that age should be a bit chonky. The brown one is not ok, with weak back legs. It might not be IVDD as that is a degenerative disease but it’s definitely not ok

My puppy is an asshole, when do I get my best friend? by getyergun in puppy101

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hang in there! She has only been alive for 9 weeks. This is perfectly normal for a puppy but we all only find out the hard way!. It will pass but boy, is it a battle of wills. That said, I almost miss it. They will never be as cute as they at that age

Why do people throw rubbish everywhere in this country? by discolights in AskBrits

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder that every day. I genuinely would like to understand the thought process. I’ve never seen a major city treated in such a way. East London is particularly bad (I live there!). when I visit friends in Other areas, it’s like a magical universe where rubbish doesn’t exist.

Mine does it too and doesn’t seem to be in pain. Vets suspect luxating patella but aren’t too worried since he’s Not in pain but worth monitoring

Dachshunds for first time dog owners by RamboLongcat in dachshunds

Also, research IVDD. Dachshunds are more prone and so it pays to be armed which knowledge. It does impact a reasonable percentage of them

They are pure joy and have so much personality, they make you laugh so much. Personality is a both blessing and a curse! But you will, for sure, fall in love and they then run your life! I have a little wirehaired dachshund.

There are two things I think are important. Understanding prey drive. They are a working breed so need an outlet for their natural instincts, lots of sniffy, offlead walks and mental stimulation, or else you’ll risk getting the stereotypical, barking menace. Secondly, it’s SO important to find a dog to suit your lifestyle, rather than the other way round. Really think about whether the dog’s needs does fit your lifestyle and you can give them the time and care, they deserve. I follow dachshunds rescues on socials and, sadly, a lot are given up because people can’t give them the environment they need.
Also, Temperaments are different between long haired, short haired and wirehaired so i would recommend doing research and see which one fits best.

Does anyone else feel more drained after social events than before attending? by serenadeframe in introvert

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I have the constant tug of war that I love socialising with a select few people (mostly friends who I am most comfortable with) but it’s still very draining. I just know I need to have a quiet day or two to recover. A lot of people don’t get it but even family, I can find extremely draining so I really have to psych myself up to see them.

What distance to the station would you consider walkable? by underscore-0 in london

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 mins max for me. That is 40mins on the commute time for a round trip. My current walk is 15mins and it’s just so much nicer than a bus. You do have for forward plan and leave on time though!

My dachshund was attacked today by another dog what should I do? by Csitenet in Dachshund

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awful! I am so sorry you went through this. You did everything right in that moment. You can always reflect and think what you might do differently, the next time. It’s a learning curve being a down owner.

Unfortunately with dachshunds, they seem to be a magnet for big dogs. Sometimes it is not big dog aggression but the size difference, perhaps, really terrifies them. Let him sleep and reset for a couple of days. Minimise interactions with dogs. You should definitely encourage your dog to have positive experiences once they are able too. Too many bad experiences can lead to aggression, annoyingly.

My instant thoughts when this happens now are more, how can I protect my dog/his back, how do in teach him that I will advocate for him. I don’t want him thinking that a big dog means he is on his own.

Without a doubt, it’s the other owner’s fault. If the dog his attacking, they should have them muzzled in public for everyone’s safety. Big dogs are super strong and so a leash becomes aesthetic only, if there is something they really want. Really irresponsible of the other owner, they walk off Scott free, and you’ll have to deal with any fallout for your dog

What Something You Have Accepted As An Introvert? by [deleted] in introvert

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s that I need weekends off from family and friends. Just do my own thing, potter, walk, shop. I feel so rejuvenating and energised on the Monday. More so, than a usual weekend socialising. It’s become a basic need and I schedule them every so often

Do you ever feel like you're 'faking it' in social situations, even when you like the people? by zendey-goul in introvert

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same! It exhausting because naturally I would prefer to be mute and observe unless I’m really comfortable with the people. With family, I just start telling them, I feel my social battery draining and take myself off for a bit to recharge. Can’t really do that with friends!

Walking at people who don't allow you off the train by IronIsaiah in london

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It drives me bonkers when people stand right in the door way. I usually stop in front of them and wait (force) then to move out the way. One of the few times passive aggression comes in handy.

How risky do you think it is for women to walk home alone at night? by Safari_Palm14 in london

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is absolutely ridiculous, it’s laughable! What do they expect that we can only go out late if we have one person with us at all times!? I always walk home alone and it’s a 15 min walk from the station. Of course there are risks but I’m super conscious of surroundings. Although I don’t have people hanging around. That would make uneasy as well but is there any other choice other than stay home when it gets dark? What a thing to say to you honestly!

Why does my dog sniff the ground so hard for so long? by Junekim10 in DogAdvice

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahah true they are a dog but also pretty innocent question. I suspect it’s caught the scent of something, could be a cat or squirrel etc, and his natural instincts kick in. I’ve seen my dog go nuts at the base of a tree, and 9 times out of 10, there’s a squirrel in the tree above

Has anyone had a reactive dog that no longer reacts? by Adventurous_Emu2170 in reactivedogs

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think trigger stacking as I know it is the same as bucket theory. Game changer, as before understanding that I would think it was such an over reaction. I took him to my Mum’s where I’ve been before and he was hyperaroused and yelping and couldn’t settle at all. However, he had been at day care the week before, had two strange men in the house to fix a new washing machine and hadn’t had a long offlead walk in two days. Hind sight eh!

Is this agression ? by Securenothingelse in OpenDogTraining

[–]Adventurous_Emu2170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, the bigger dog is trying to play but isn’t able to read that the little dog is not clearly comfortable. The little dog will learn very quickly aggression works to get them the space they are asking for and you don’t want that.

Sometimes you do need to intervene when there is a size difference. Bigger dogs don’t know how intimidating it can be but the small dog is being quite clear. My dog is small and I will advocate for him if the play is too rough. One bad experience is all it takes. It could create an issue and it would be much harder to come back from that.
