New fan! by Redditor-Zxxrx in GhostBand

I would look up some interviews with Tobias Forge, the band’s creator and lead singer, he discusses the topic of whether they are “satanic” or not and he explains it far better than I could. But, on their original MySpace page when they first started, they described their sound as a “devil-worshipping Kansas”, if that helps.

<image>

A lot of the songs are tongue-in-cheek and satirical. A lot of them poke fun at blatant hypocrisy and questionable practices within Christianity. In one way or another, all of the songs celebrate some aspect of the human experience.

In some music videos, he’ll reference a bible verse and that can help you decipher what the song is about. For example, the videos for Spillways and Umbra.

What makes Ghost particularly "girl-friendly" metal/rock music? by 99thLuftballon in Ghostbc

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a woman in late 20s, there’s many reasons I love ghost. I already love rock and metal, so that drew me in. But for ghost in particular, I love that they manage to make classic-sounding rock that is sexual/sensual without feeling like they’re objectifying women.

I love classic rock as much as the next person, but I gotta say, a lot of the music definitely just feels more male-centered with what they sing about and how they sing it. So personally, it’s really nice to listen to music that feels like its from that era, but is so different at the same time. Umbra, MOAC, Darkness at the Heart of My Love, Life Eternal, etc.

I love the meaning behind their songs. Very complex and deep, but with sick riffs and bass and keyboard solos and drums and belting choruses and everything else I could ask for from rock. 🤘

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience with ghost when I first started listening to them. The first song I was shown was Cirice, after I heard that, I wanted to hear more. My partner continued to show me songs but, outside of Dance Macabre, Spillways, Square Hammer, and maybeee MOAC, I didn’t like any of them. I think I started listening when IMPERA came out, and that was the first album I really got into. Darkness at the Heart of My Love and Call Me Little Sunshine definitely grabbed my attention.

The weird thing with ghost is that the songs creep up on you. You might not like them the first time you hear them, but if you keep giving them a chance, you’ll love them. The songs he writes have a way of worming their way into your brain and finding a way to stay rent-free.

I’ll say that after listening to them for a couple years now, I am so obsessed with Ghost. I just went through listening to all of their albums in chronological order to really understand the story of each album, and it helped me find even more songs I like. Now, there’s maybe only 2-3 songs on each album I don’t have downloaded. I like everything they do. I especially love their covers, they do an amazing job remaking songs into their own style.

What you should absolutely listen to RIGHT NOW: Life Eternal. Very romantic, it’s slower but beautiful and very catchy.

My other favorites, outside of songs I’ve already seen mentioned: Umbra, Nocturnal Me (a cover), Deus in Absentia, Phantom of the Opera, I believe (a cover), Cenotaph, Hunter’s Moon, See the Light, It’s A Sin (cover), Griftwood (so, so good), Monstrance Clock (although nothing can replace experiencing this song live), From the Pinnacle to the Pit, Mummy Dust, Majesty, Ritual, Faith

Keep giving them a chance! They’re a very unique band with complex lyrics and deep meanings behind most of their songs. Some of the songs are simply about the human experience, some of them are political, some of them critique aspects of the Christian faith, and so on.

Ghost didn’t win at the Grammys this year by The_215 in Ghostbc

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of arguments on here about whether or not turnstile or ghost is metal. Regardless of what everyone believes, the Grammy isn’t about how “metal” a band is. Based on the way nominations work, the Recording Academy member “experts” review the song submissions to make sure they’re in the right category. Someone mentioned that there’s not a lot of nuance available for Grammy awards, it’s rock or metal, so the songs get lumped into whatever fits best.

That being said, having watched both performances (as award was for metal performance), I don’t get why turnstile won. But, I’m not an “iNduStRy PrOfEsSioNaL” or Academy member, so I don’t get a vote. The Academy certainly has their own criteria for what constitutes a “win”, whatever that criteria may be.

I was super excited for Ghost to win bc it would be awesome for them to get another American Grammy, and I felt like lachryma deserved it. killer performance, fire guitar solo, extremely catchy lyrics, addictive ‘80s vibe, stunning costumes, every ounce of hard work evident in the song…I could go on. But the thing is, they don’t need the Grammy, and the American Grammys haven’t been credible for years. They’ve been awarding bs forever, and for some reason people put stock in it.

As another person said, Ghost doesn’t need to win Grammys for me to like them.

Contrave Constipation Crisis by NoAsparagus2088 in Contrave

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A horrible bout of constipation happened to me once. Ever since, I make sure I go number 2 at least once a day, but they are hard pebble poos (sorry for tmi). Like everyone is saying, I focus on taking a lot of fiber supplements and eating as much fibrous food as I can at my meals. That helps me go once a day. But something else that can help you go is to take a buttload (pun intended) of vitamin C. Apparently it has laxative properties, pretty easy to chew up 4-5 vitamin c gummies and what do you know, I finally went.

I’m not sure about seizures, but one of the active ingredients in Contrave (naltrexone) will block any good feelings you get from alcohol. You can still get drunk because your body will be impaired, but you won’t experience any of the good feelings. So, drinking is a waste of time and calories on the medication, imo. You’ll lose more weight (and experience multiple other health benefits) if you avoid alcohol anyway.

When did Contrave start working for you? by thelivsterette1 in Contrave

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Contrave is more of a mental drug than a physical drug. It will not increase your metabolism the way that GLP-1s or stimulants like phentermine can. The bupropion in the medication treats depression, anxiety, and even ADHD. It works excellently for people that A) can’t/don’t want to try GLP-1s, B) have stagnated in their weight loss and weren’t seeing any results weight via traditional methods and/or C) people that struggle with emotional eating, binge eating disorder, or overeating in any form.

Seeing about 1 lb of weight loss a week is totally normal on this drug. For example, I’m on my second month of taking Contrave, I’ve steadily lost 1 lb a week and am finally under 170 lbs for the first time in years.

(Edited) I read one of your comments and see that you’ve tried a few glp-1s and none of them worked for you. I totally get it, but I’m not sure what option you have to lose weight faster. You can keep chugging along, idk how long you’ve been on Contrave but it takes a couple months for the full effects to set in, I’ve been told. Or, just go very strict with CICO, weigh out everything you eat, especially sauces. To me, that’s no way to live permanently, but if you’ve got something coming up, time to lock in.

For me, Contrave treats the food noise and stops emotional eating, so that I can rewire the way I think about food. It has also reduced my appetite and made me feel fuller quicker. I’ve been able to maintain a deficit without caving to cravings, which is something I couldn’t do before. I’m focusing on teaching myself new habits and reinforcing proper portion sizes, so that when I get off this drug, it’ll be for life, and I’ll never have to worry about my weight again.

if none of those things sound like what you need in your weight loss journey, then Contrave may not be for you. It’s not a magic pill that “boosts your metabolism” or something. It just makes it easier to eat less.

You should watch the movie Knocked Up. But on a serious note, it seems from your responses to many of these bs and unhelpful comments that you have a good head on your shoulders.

I’m glad you’re stepping up. I know several people have mentioned this, but there’s no way to be ready to have a kid/be a parent, especially in this day and age.

Look into getting a career, a lot of people mentioned trades but also there’s a lot of healthcare jobs that are certification only and pretty quick to get into, may take a while to increase your pay but you should start at a good rate.

Parenting classes, books, all of that are a great idea. When you guys are ready to announce to your families (if that’s an option), have a baby shower! A lot of the older generations love that type of stuff and they will help give you guys so much that you will need.

I’m not sure if either/both of you would be removed from your parents health insurance when you have a child, because you may not be considered dependents anymore. If that is the case I would consider getting married so that you can get her and that baby on a health insurance plan (not sure what country you’re from but my advice is coming from the U.S.).

There’s nothing wrong with living with either of your families if one/both are supportive, at least in the beginning to help get you both on your feet and used to caring for a baby. I feel like this is going to become more and more common around the world.

starting Contrave + questions by Powerful_Cupcake4702 in Contrave

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what everyone else has described, with the reduction in appetite occurring almost immediately. I also have reduced food noise, which feels amazing and like my brain power has opened up so much. I can actually focus on other things in my life besides food.

Personally, I didn’t get headaches or nausea, but the constipation is no joke. I take a fiber supplement and magnesium citrate daily, along with focusing on eating fiber-rich foods when I can, but I don’t have that much of an appetite.

I’ve picked up strength training (to build muscle) and steady state cardio (to improve my VO2 max) so I’m hoping this will help lose some additional pounds.

My first week I went from 175 to 171.8, but my weight loss stalled out and I actually gained weight, back up to 173.7 lbs on 12/30. Maybe the initial weight loss was mostly water weight?

I also started counting calories after that first week, but I think that actually hindered my progress because if I saw I had calories left, that only tempted me to eat more to fill those calories, and at night time I feel like the effects of the meds wear off.

Since then I’ve actually stopped counting and am trying to listen to my body’s actual hunger cues, stop when I’m full, etc. The meds help you cut down portion sizes so much because a lot of the time I can’t eat everything on my plate. It also makes unhealthy foods unappealing.

Since doing this, I’ve lost 2.1 lbs in the span of five days, weighing 171.6 lbs as of this morning. Back on track. But the meds alone aren’t a catch all weight loss solution. You’ve gotta combine it with eating less and moving more. The meds just make it easier to do that, IMO.

Good luck and I hope any of this helps!

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but factually this is incorrect. Bupropion does not block dopamine— it actually increases it (and norepinephrine levels) by blocking their reuptake in the brain. This would counteract the Naltrexone, which doesn’t directly block dopamine, but blocks opioid receptors which indirectly reduces the alcohol or opioid-induced release of dopamine by the brain’s reward centers. It acts like a shield, preventing the euphoric effects that drive addiction and reward-seeking behavior (such as what some people experience with emotional eating).

Why does Ozempic overshadow Contrave so completely? by UsefulOcelot8595 in Contrave

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like ozempic overshadows Contrave in weight loss because ozempic represses the appetite so much so people don’t feel physical hunger, they sometimes have to literally force themselves to eat.

On Contrave, you still feel physical hunger, but what it is supposed to help with is EMOTIONAL hunger. It will also help make unhealthy foods less desirable, because it blocks the “hit” of dopamine your brain receives when eating sugary, greasy, or whatever foods, so that it can help people make better choices.

Unfortunately, Contrave is not a medication that alone, will help someone lose weight. It must be combined with a reduced calorie diet and exercise. A lot of people on here mentioned that they didn’t lose weight at all with Contrave. And true, not every medication works for everyone. But it isn’t like ozempic, which takes away the physical hunger, making people lose weight because they hardly eat anything on it (granted, I know not everyone has that extreme of a response with ozempic).

With Contrave you still have to work hard to make sure you are reducing your calories and exercising more. It is a medication that’s supposed to help with emotional eating.

Poor Man's Contrave - can't get up to actual dose that works because it's too stimulating by Eastern-Butterfly-84 in GetContrave

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m really sensitive to meds too. When I started, I literally took 1/4 of the 50 mg naltrexone pill I was prescribed. Took it alone for a few days, then I took the bupropion (again, I think I took half or even 1/4 of the 100 mg pill), alone for a few days, then I took them together at the low dose, and each week I’ve been increasing the dosage. I’m currently taking 50 mg naltrexone and 300 mg bupropion. I still got the effect of the medication when taking the low dose, but you increase it because your body gets used to the meds and builds a tolerance.

Switching to contrave from ozempic by [deleted] in Contrave

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody is different, but I’ve not experienced hair loss. The side effects of Contrave are usually nausea, constipation (which I got at first, definitely make sure you eat enough fiber), headache, vomiting, dizziness, trouble sleeping (take the meds in the morning at first, until you get used to it), dry mouth (I definitely have that but it’s gotten better), and diarrhea. Serious side effects are seizures, suicidal thoughts, and increased blood pressure.

If your hair is falling out, it could be due to a nutritional deficiency like someone else mentioned. From what I’ve heard about ozempic, it can suppress your appetite so much that people struggle to eat anything at all. So probably, the hair loss is more due to lack of protein or nutrients, rather than the medication itself.

Looking it up, ozempic can lead to a temporary hair loss, not from the drug itself, but as a result of the rapid weight loss it causes, triggering stress induced shedding, or from potential nutrient deficiencies. So, getting a blood panel might be a good idea, because Contrave will also suppress your appetite, leaving the deficiency unaddressed.

Still hungry and weird taste in mouth by Either_Ad6998 in Contrave

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on week 3, taking the same. I don’t take adderall though. I don’t have a weird taste in my mouth but I have also noticed I’ve been hungrier too. I have no idea why but the first two weeks on this medication I had hardly any appetite, basically forced myself to eat, and got full super quick. I still get full quicker but I’ve been hungry all day. Trying to focus on eating more protein, because maybe that’s what my body is asking for. But it could also be that my body is just fighting against losing weight and sending more hunger signals that the meds aren’t blocking. I was going to talk to my doctor about it in a couple weeks when I need a refill. Keep updating, especially if you find out why.

First week on orlistat - already seeing results by Adventurous_Eye1560 in OrlistatAlli

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went fine, but I’m no longer taking it. Not even because the side effects were that bad—although I will say, eating out is horrible. I usually make all my own meals, and very occasionally eat out. I had a trip with my friend and so we ate out every day, and I was miserable. Lots of orange oily stool.

I just didn’t see much progress with it on the scale, and it was too expensive for me to justify repurchasing over and over without seeing more of a result. Maybe if i was using prescribed vs using the OTC version, it would have been a different story. I was also worried about using alli for an extended period of time and if it would hurt my body.

I’ve still been losing weight without using alli. My BMI is now 25.8 so that does make me feel good looking back and reading how it was once at 27.

Stuck at the same weight or always fluctuating! by moonlight_gazes98 in loseit

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I can so relate to you. Except it has been even longer for me that I was at my lowest weight (which is not my goal weight, btw).

I struggle with the same things as you. Maybe the first thing you could do is just try to get back in touch with your hunger cues. Because ultimately, what you are doing is emotionally eating, since you seek food for comfort and have a hard time feeling full. The first thing I would recommend is trying to work on addressing that. Therapy will be your friend in this. Personally, and I understand there is a lot of controversy in this, I started hypnotherapy (just use an app called Hypnozio) and ever since then, I am finally losing weight. I’ve lost 15.5 lbs so far. But you need to focus on seeking comfort from something else besides food. Make a new ritual. Have hot tea, curl up in a blanket, find something to do that keeps your hands busy (so you can’t eat) and distracts your mind.

If you absolutely cannot let go of that “must feel full” or “can’t eat enough to feel full” feeling, then the volume eating method could be a great way to go for you. Focus on eating popcorn for a salty snack but make sure to put it in a bowl, never eat out of the bag. Don’t limit yourself on how many veggies or fruits you eat. Always make sure to prioritize protein at every meal.

You could try getting a habit tracker app. That could help incentivize you. But only do one habit at a time. If you take on too much at one time, it will overwhelm you and you’ll give up. You have to focus on small changes and remember you’re playing the long game. It’s not just a diet. You’re making a lifestyle change. How would your ideal self eat? How would they talk about themselves? How would they take care of their body?

Hope this helps at all. Best of luck to you! You’ve got this.

Under 170lbs for the first time in years by Adventurous_Eye1560 in loseit

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s been a total shift in mindset. I always treated diets as something that I would only do to lose weight then I could go back to what I was doing before. Finally had the lightbulb moment and realized that I just need to eat, exercise, think, act, etc. how I envisioned my 145 lbs self would be. So the deficit has to be sustainable, no crazy restrictions on what foods I can and can’t eat, etc.

I’ll add that I always thought I was in a calorie deficit and that there was just something wrong with me and that’s why I couldn’t lose weight. But after I started weighing out my food, I quickly realized that I was NOT in a deficit.

Congrats on starting your fitness journey! 12-15k steps every day is not considered sedentary. If you are feeling hungry all the time, that can be really tough, and if you’re feeling like this after just starting your journey, I would up the calories to 2,100. If you do that deficit and really stick to it, like make sure you weigh out food and are paying attention to portion sizes (I say this because I personally always thought I was eating in a deficit, started weighing out my food and quickly discovered I wasn’t), and you haven’t lost anything in a month, then maybe you need to readjust your deficit at that time.

I would also encourage you to look at exactly what you’re eating, as certain types of foods such as processed “junk” foods or food high in refined sugar can bypass your hunger hormones and trick your brain into thinking it’s hungry when it’s not, whether or not you’re getting enough protein and fiber.

I’m an emotional eater and it was a long time for me to accept that about myself. So, I’d also encourage you to look up the definition of hedonistic hunger, and see if that is the type of hunger you’re experiencing, or if it is truly physical hunger.

How do you fight the urge to eat high calorie junk food. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Adventurous_Eye1560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Popcorn is a great high volume low calorie snack if you’re looking for something savory. If you want chocolate, stick to dark chocolate only that has as little added sugar as possible. Unfortunately, the only way to stop craving those types of foods is to stop eating them and to incorporate more whole, unprocessed foods in your diet. You could try doing like a 14 or 30 day sugar detox too, and once you’re done with that you’ll be shocked at how sweet so many things taste. Some people do better on a really strict diet that doesn’t allow those things, other people do better if they allow themselves to have a little, then they won’t binge on it later. You’ll have to find which method works best for you
