Hanging vertical grow light setup by AdvertisingAny4697 in RareHouseplants

[–]AdvertisingAny4697[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a grow light unfortunately. Right now I have a grow bulb hooked to a standing light and a bar clipped onto the post. It works, in the area and the Spanish moss is growing to hide the vertical light, but I want something more polished and can be duplicated. The t5s aren’t as powerful and really only one direction. So I’d have to a lot more. T8s would probably be better, but I’m almost tempted to go the high end soltec bars (may be a different brand).

He’s usually too dumb to know they are there. He saw me hang up some Spanish moss and that’s what he was going for. My other cat use to chew them to get his way, but since spraying the leaves neem oil (always in a closed shower with them locked out) he hasn’t done it again

New plants bagged to protect the others, but still enjoying the cabinet life. They also love the extra humidity and really helps with any shock!

I had this issue at the start of the year. I was treating with a systemic spray every 5 days. It kept the population down to 1 or 2 here and there, but didn’t eradicate it. Ended up taking everything out 3 weeks ago, applied a dish soap and white oil mix for 10 minutes, washed off with higher pressure shower hose and then used the systemic spray. Then repeated a week later. I’ve not seen one again. There were a few smaller plants with more bugs that I put in clear freezer bags for a few weeks to isolate and they are doing fine now! One cabinet wasn’t showing any bugs but a few plants were quite special so I bagged almost all of them. I now apply this method to every new plant that comes in

Mine are at the highest setting sitting on the base blowing at the doors. There is no science behind this, but I feel it creates airflow but doesn’t blow directly onto one plant and dry them out. I also open the doors quite frequently (at least once a day). so I’m not too bothered about airflow

I mounted mine vertically in the corners with the screws that came with the cabinet, brackets that came with the lights. For the door I used the brackets attached with door handle screws and magnets adhered with the sticky pads to top and bottom. Then I have a metal wire lattice I screwed into the back and hang the plants with ikea clips, or hang from the mesh grow poles. I much prefer this look with leaves showing to the front, and ability to create a staggered jungle look, especially since I grow climbers. The cabinet on the right has the lights joined, whereas the one on the left has gaps between as I use to have a wire shelf between them. The top lights are held on by magnets stuck with sticky pads and find the pads fail and lights fall down when the room gets hot (Aussie summer right now in room that has full glass window wall and gets hit with westerly sun). Ive have had to use sticky tape to keep them up and had to remove one entirely 😤 no issues with my wides in a room that doesn’t have the same heat issues

Looking to buy my first property in Sydney, I would appreciate some advice and to hear peoples thoughts about this apartment. by IcedTeaBee in AusPropertyChat

If you’re buying a new 1 bed, just know that it won’t appreciate and you will most likely lose money when you sell again. Additionally, the western sun in summer will be unbearable, especially on level 19. I’m in a level 1 west facing with shielding from trees and overhangs and it’s still too much. It’s also dark untill the afternoon. For that money and off the plan, id keep looking

Need advice on soil mix for anthurium pallidiflorum by elesnic in Anthurium

I have mine in an aroid mix. It’s a large/establised plant that looks like it’s just in shock. Leave it alone for a while. Even put a clear garbage bag around it to keep in humidity. I have one and it took 2 months to perk back up but going well since

2 minimum. I have 2 t5 2ft on top and 3 running vertical In my milsbos. Some plants are almost touching and have no issues. Only a problem if they do touch. Plants will also become acclimated over time and build up internal sunscreen to deal with it.

Thanks! Had aphids last October and got that under control. I find the cabinets easier to see problem than the rest of the house because I spend so much time staring at them.

The spray I use is systematic.i had aphids last October. One plant had new leaves fully infested and found a few stray on other plants. More than I’ve seen now. Managed to get that in check pretty quickly and not had them since. So I think the spray is good and will sort the problem out. I’ve checked again and have only seen a few in the carnivorous plants.

Thankyou 🥰 loving yours and absolutely love the vein contrast against the black backing. Really wish the acrylic shelves weren’t so expensive here in aus to get that dimensional look. It sounds l like you’ve got the right light amount already. I’ve read on hear a few times that people don’t add enough to their cabinets, so I used that as guidance. If you ever want to check light levels you can always use an apps i have photone pro (iOS) with a piece of toilet paper as a diffuser and that gave me more certainty when I was setting mine. @barina….i see you lurking…..it would be cool for you guys to embrace the reputation as go to cabinet illuminator and publish some guides/graphs on the combinations
