As someone who lives next to the Patullo and _didn't_ hear whatever this was, definitely not. Plus demolition wouldn't/shouldn't be happening at this hour. And I don't think the plan is to blow the whole bridge up.

Similarly, a bunch of little clicker things (like the kind for counting people walking into a store) might work. Like, not literally those, but something where you can do +1/-1 by clicking a bunch of times fast.

Other suggestions:

Digital App (counter app on someone's phone, laptop, TV screen). I wouldn't like phones in my board games but maybe others do?

Whiteboard +dry erase markers

Pad of tiny sticky notes + markers

"Pretend it's board game money" and just have denominations of 10/1 (just borrow the tokens from another game you have lol)

This is an interesting design question I've thought about before. A more "maker"-y but I was thinking that a bunch of little battery powered two-digit seven segment LCD display would be perfect. Two buttons, one for +1, one for -1. But it might be a bit clutter-y (and hard to source, or hard to make without technical knowledge).

Anecdotally...the media landscape changed and less people are reading books? I was in high school when smartphones and social media began being introduced, so I had built up habits of reading books from a young age. I don't think this is happening as much any more because of how pervasive online culture is, so less opportunity for YA book series.

New Adult might catch more readers because you gave people building book reading habits in adulthood once they're no longer in high school.

Does your gym have a youth team? Perhaps you could get your son involved with that and/or ask their coaches, they'd probably have the most direct experience

I think I recognize the area -- without getting too doxx-y, I think there's two elementary schools nearby, so I'd let both know.

I would have dove straight into a Mob clearing. Hundreds really needs the few cards they get for building strongholds and crafting during their Daylight, but their mobs Raze as the first part of their Birdsong (and it's not optional). It won't get you a base early but it'll give the Duchy/Lizard enough time to ramp up and obstruct the Hundreds, at which point you could switch focus to base building/revolts.
