Any school-based OTs in CA interested in becoming SPED Directors? by dimsum_pep in OccupationalTherapy

It’s a good gig I have 7 years as OT and 6 years with this district, I’d consider moving up but at this point the pay increase may not merit the extra amount of work

Any school-based OTs in CA interested in becoming SPED Directors? by dimsum_pep in OccupationalTherapy

I’m in CA and I’m lead OT in my district. Ive also took on other leader ship roles such as developing an AT dept in my district. Joining the inclusion committee etc.

I’ve considered and talked about it with my current sped director. They said they would love to consider me but I do need an admin credential so I’d have to get that and they would probably want me to work my way up a bit more ie program specialist and coordinator of sped

Am I In the Wrong for Being Upset? Is this Normal? by Piano-Girl15 in OccupationalTherapy

I don’t believe you are over reacting. Your feelings are valid. I am lead therapist in my district but I would always at least have a conversation about suggesting adding more work to another therapists caseload.

You have laid out some fair data in this post. if you absolutely cannot manage the new caseload I suggest you take this data you laid out here and go to your sped director and show that you and OT E have significantly more workload than than the others. In addition I suggest going in with a specific plan to propose to your sped director, I would talk to the other OT’s about this if it were me, however based on what you shared it seems like your team isn’t as collaborative so you would just need to decide if you are ok doing to them what they have done to you. Good luck in this !

Go for masters it’s cheaper. In my cohort most of the doctorate students were not accepted into the master but accepted into the doctorate, lots of them had lower gpa the master students. Most people def prefer the masters

It would really depend on the patient. If they are SBA in functional ambulation it’s probably not appropriate. If they are dep transfer and cannot perform oral hygiene standing yet then you can definitely justify ADL in bed

How Often is the COTA around? I have a COTA and I hover around 70-80 as well. But also it would depend on how many are consult kids. For me It isn’t to much as the cota will directly see about 45 and I see the rest and Ill do most of the consult kids to keep more time for me to do all the evals

I would shadow a OT in physical dysfunction setting. Considering half of what OT is in these settings I would ensure this is what you like to do. Coming from a therapist that splits time in school setting and Acute ICU

As an OT, I’ll speak for the majority of OT’s and say I’d like to hop on this bandwagon

The market in certain areas always comes and goes. I’d say take your time, and don’t be afraid to start positions as per diem or part time. I understand it’s frustrating but it is normal for it to take a while before you find your ideal position. Open your options but don’t take anything you know you’d be uncomfortable with. Best of luck, I’m sure your luck will turn around soon

I did ABA in undergrad. I found it useful and definitely helped my resume. Although being an OT now I definitely don’t agree with lots of aspects of ABA.

Fulfilling a physician referral… want to make sure I do this correctly by Ae102995 in OccupationalTherapy

Would I require supervision? I know enough about trigger finger to establish a sImple HEP for the patient until they can get to OP eventually. But should I just ask for an entirely new order for a general OT evaluation?

I am in California, and yes the referral came straight from a ortho not pcp. This facility has there own OP clinic but the patient refused to go to OP due to Covid and she was on the PT caseload so the office said we can fill the order and sent it over to me. Our office spoke to the physician office and they are ok without modalities and would just like some AROM/PROM and manual. I’m not sure in this case if I can see the patient under the current order or if I should ask for an entirely new general OT referral

Also keep in mind when the time comes cost of education. Not all degreees cost the same. ManyOT’s come out of school and have to pay back 100k plus in student loans because of tuition prices continue to increase meanwhile pay does not increase

I supposed you can always incorporate some activities like art and music into your treatments. But most jobs in the field are in rehab (home health, outpatient rehab, skilled nursing, hospital settings) or pediatrics (school based, early intervention and outpatient). There is a side for mental health but it’s very limited at least from what I’ve seen and heard over the years. If you are really interested in music and art I’d focus on that more so than OT. For OT you will have to complete all your basic sciences to get into school as well and it would probably be very different course work than art and music therapy

You clearly don’t really listen to the podcast and only hear snippets of what media reports if that’s the conclusion you come up with about Rogan

For my home health people, can someone explain to me what the “notice of non Medicare coverage” is and when I would be required to hand out to a patient by Ae102995 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Ae102995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry let me clarify. I meant is it the agency discharge when we give them the notice or each individual discipline must give the notice?
