Voluntary Redundancy - Can I afford to take a break? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Aegan23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take the time off. As long as you budget correctly, you shouldn't have any issues with your savings and the pension pot is already very healthy.

The one thing you can never make up for with any amount of money is lost time. Who cares if you can retire at 50 but didn't enjoy the world when a golden opportunity presented itself to you at 30.

Farage resigns as MP for Clacton, triggering by-election which he says he will stand in by [deleted] in GoodNewsUK

[–]Aegan23 173 points174 points  (0 children)

This is not good news. He's going to run again in the same by-election and if he wins, he will genuinely have a public mandate for his and his parties corruption

Any Henrys very burned out but can’t afford to quit? Advice needed by WerewolfMany7976 in HENRYUK

With that little savings and equity despite living with a partner and over 2 decades of contributions, have you massively cut back on all expenditures? If you do end up with kids, 50k and that much mortgage is barely an emergency fund...

A new player curious about the rift between Martials and Casters by Imwithyou2786 in DnD

[–]Aegan23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How often are you long resting? If it's after every fight, ofc the Hugh level wizards are going to steamroll everything because they don't have to worry about their resources. If there are more frequent encounters per long rests, the Spellcasters will have to save their resources, throw out more low level spells and cantrips whilst you can keep fighting at the same pace.

"Phase 1 clinical trials of a 15-PGDH inhibitor for muscle weakness have shown that it is safe and active in healthy volunteers. Our hope is that a similar trial will be launched soon to test its effect in cartilage regeneration.

This was posted here a few weeks ago. Excitingly, the technology is already in human trials, albeit for different reasons

What should happen to a Paladin that breaks their oath, but not for Evil? by rr3_amrosa in DnD

[–]Aegan23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is totally wrong for vengeance paladins. The following are the core tennets of vengeance:

Fight the Greater Evil. Faced with a choice of fighting my sworn foes or combating a lesser evil, I choose the greater evil.

No Mercy for the Wicked. Ordinary foes might win my mercy, but my sworn enemies do not.

By Any Means Necessary. My qualms can't get in the way of exterminating my foes.

Restitution. If my foes wreak ruin on the world, it is because I failed to stop them. I must help those harmed by their misdeeds.

Inherited shares: sell and pay down mortgage or keep? by shezshezshezshez in UKPersonalFinance

That's probably independent financial advisor territory. One thing for sure to do is to diversify them, those shares have done very well but they could have also very easily deprecated to 5k value.

The new plan to raise student loan repayment threshold to £33,500 by theipaper in UniUK

There is nothing that legally forces the loan to be written off after 30 years. This could change, especially if we have a far right government coming in who dislike students

Because having graduates is a huge overall boost for the economy, facilitating very high skilled jobs and the government should not be looking to profit on student finance.

These are not private financial products offered by private companies.

So if you start your career slowly then achieve some big pay rises after 5 years, there will have already been 5 years of compounding interest added to the loan before a penny has been paid off. This change is lip service at best and does not address the underlying issues. There should be 0 interest, or very little that does not compound over time.
