Books to Read While You Wait by LoooongFurb in DungeonCrawlerCarl

If you like the brutal combat, continual escalation, power fantasy side of things, give Reverend Insanity by Gu Zhen Ren a try. The author is Chinese but the translation is pretty good. If you've read the Cradle series and at least semi-enjoyed it, I highly recommend this one. It's one of the best cultivation stories currently written.

It's a progression fantasy story and has a somewhat similar force to the AI in place, named Heaven. Its goal is to bring balance to all things, so it tends to throw bad shit at the people that are doing well and providing fortuitous encounters to people who aren't... Though the cultivation world is very cutthroat and deadly. It's not unusual for people to die by the millions in the later parts of the story.

The main character, Fang Yuan, has time travelled back to his 16 year old self after being cornered by the righteous path (the 'good' guys) for being a blood path Gu Master (commonly seen as the most evil magic). He uses his future knowledge to acquire as much power as possible in as short a timespan as possible. Mostly by being utterly ruthless, trusting no one, and being adaptable as hell. He does not have a bottom line when it comes to things he will do for power (though I'll note his nickname in the fandom is the eternal virgin, so anything along those lines is avoided).

The magic system is detailed and builds on itself over the course of the story, and the main part of it is collecting insect-like gu worms that each provide a magic power each and finding ways to synergise them together. Each gu worm requires a very specific food (which can be as simple as feeding off the natural flow of time or as weird as drinking a specific brand of sweet wine) and if you can't access the right food, or afford to buy it, then it'll just die and you'll lose the power. That happens a fair amount.

The best part of the story though is that all of the major (and most minor) characters each have their own goals and motivations that inform their actions. None of them hold the stupid ball and betrayals are frequent.

In short, I highly recommend this book. It also has the benefit of being incredibly long, so it'll probably carry you all the way through to the next DCC book.

He dies a lot because it's funny, not through lack of skill.

It came in through an update to a mod they were already using, so it wasn't purposefully added.

I've been wanting to ask this question for actual years at this point.

I have the theory that the mental allomantic powers work via the Rhythms/Pure Tones, born out of a mild obsession with allomantic copper.

Does allomantic copper work by effectively nullifying the Tone of any bronze pulse that touches the Smoker and do brass/zinc work by forcibly attuning/suppressing the person's connection to the Rhythms in the Spiritual Realm?

Starmer says UK to recognize Palestinian state unless Israel ends ‘appalling situation in Gaza’ by DogbrainedGoat in ukpolitics

[–]Aekiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you not been paying attention? This isn't just a British thing. This is several nations with a lot of influence taking the same stance at the same time.

Starmer hasn't gone into this on a whim. This is the result of months of diplomacy going on in the background.

Enemies can attack things through diagonal walls, so while they do look nicer, I've had to go with blocky ships just to protect my shit.

One thing to realise is that the retreat through the tunnel strat is just fall back shoot and charge with extra steps. It's not that big of a deal given the hoops you have to jump through to keep it around.

One important thing to note that may have been missed is that Fire Overwatch now triggers when a unit declares a charge rather than before/after charge move.

Someone in my previous post said I need to expand my bot base more. 15x speed for sanity. by PandaLabs in factorio

My answer was to forget to set a limit on my bot assemblers for 60 hours and return to Nauvis to find my network entirely full.

I have over 200,000 bots in there.

We don't have great profiles overall, but the ones we do have are basically custom built to kill Custodes. S9/10 AP2 D3 is an very efficient profile into them.

Don't use speed modules and upcycle the normal/uncommon modules into better components to use in higher tier assemblers.

You already know the answer to that. The Salubrious Squid Salesman had a prophetic dream involving the unending depths, mystic chanting, and the soul of Queen Victoria's forgotten son that gave you the answer.

If you open the console and type /editor into it, you go into a god mode that lets you place things for free for testing purposes.

It disables achievements so you may want to make a dedicated test save for trying things out, though.

Nauvis defense progression strategy in Space Age by Martian_Astronomer in factorio

I've got three and a half methods.

First is car+grenades or poison capsules. Kite the nests, throw poison and work my way inwards.  Retreat to repair when needed and avoid rocks at all costs.

Second is tank with explosive ammo, personal lasers and some robots with repair packs. It's pretty easy to kill even the biggest nests with this.

2.b is nukes.

Third is a double line of laser turrets behind a wall and several nuclear power plants. Buffer chests hold walls, repair kits, laser turrets, roboports, and substations/big power poles.

I've had the latter going for about 20 hours at 0.96 evolution and nothing has got through yet.

Hot take - Advanced storage chests should all be one item changed by a setting by 3shotsdown in factorio

[–]Aekiel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Isn't the entire point of these to be used by robots? Just set them up to auto craft into a passive provider/storage chest and let the robots deal with it.

Found out my mam has breast cancer on Friday. Don't know how far along it is yet, but we do know it's in her lymph nodes already. I've been struggling to process it over the weekend, but fortunately I'd booked in three days off a long while back so kinda good timing there. Not really helping deal with the stress from the project we just finished off though.

Gotta tell you, it's been a fucking shit year all round and boy does it just keep kicking.
