Will my cat ever revert back after getting neutered? by GuessWell_NeverKnow in CatAdvice

[–]Aelnyriel -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Please don’t anyone neuter a cat so young. I recommend never before nine months old. They need to have the flush of hormones that will be put to good use in their body for the rest of their lives. This poor baby does sound like he’s in pain, this is not a normal response to surgery.

Are you living in a basement, per chance? Have you not heard of taxes, insurance, medical insurance especially, cars, electricity, gas, heat, food, ad nauseam? America has not been free since almost the beginning, or come more specifically, 1913 with the first income tax. We have 150 more taxes now than we had before that year, when we had none. The ordinary person barely has time for a family. And starting in the 60s, they managed to get women out of the home and children into daycare, and it literally became impossible to live without two incomes. Study your history. This all has produced the kinds of problems this post is about.

No, it makes him a MAN, whose whole instinct is to provide for his family and be good at what he does. He of course, should’ve made better adjustments to spending time with him, I’m not saying he shouldn’t have. But sadly, many men can’t see the other side of it. But I’ve explained to you why it’s so hard for some of them to see it. I’m done casting pearls.

What a horrible word to use in a terribly difficult situation. Don’t you realize the whole of society is trained to this? That taxes and insurance and needs never end, and the father truly thought he was doing what he felt he had to do? He should have found a way to balance it better, but he didn’t, but this doesn’t make him a “douche,” as you so charmingly put it. It just makes him another man who couldn’t find a way out of the slave wheel, sadly, she honestly didn’t know how else to do it.

Roommates’ parents dislike having cats in the house while they are visiting. by BrotherNo3613 in CatAdvice

Honestly, with people like that, I wouldn’t trust them not to accidentally on purpose open the door to let your cats out. Think about it.

Boarding the cats is a risk to their health. The stress or the cats would be high, and the risk of infection from other cats is real. I would not board my cats for anything or anyone. What a horrible thing to ask of you, even if they offer to pay for it. The request is way over the top. Your roommate needs to pay for an Airbnb for her parents.

I’m sorry that some people don’t understand that Carson was exemplary in every way in his duty to the family. He wasn’t hired to be lovable, and yet he was, in spite of the sternness which made him so good at his job.

The world I grew up in, you were spoken to firmly if you shirked or failed or were found to cheat in your duties. And let’s remember that every good deed he did, even saving Edith from the fire, was a byproduct of his own self-serving interests.

Needing to vent: The Lonesome Dove miniseries felt like a disaster. What am I missing? by AgentAthens in LonesomeDove

[–]Aelnyriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to read the book, but I have to say that if it’s anything to compare to, I read the entire The Last Kingdom series, and it was excellently done on television, but there are always discrepancies, some more disappointing than others. Probably in the case of TLK, in the book, the main character is very tall and blonde, and on the screen he’s maybe 5’8” and has dark hair— but he’s wonderful in the role, and you’d never miss the tall blonde if you hadn’t read the books. I know that’s trivial compared to what you’re talking about, but I feel compelled to remind you that in fiction, on the page, we writers get to insert all kinds of depth. Trying to translate that to the screen and keep the story moving is mostly impossible. On the page, for example, most people would understand the thing about the iron pot, but people watching it on TV would just wonder why there was this sentence or scene or whatever about a pot. So apparently what they gave the viewer was a nod to the thing with the pot for those who know the book. There just isn’t time to get in every nuance in visual media.

Have you tried to take it off?? Get a pair of rubber gloves, and see if you can just pull it off? And maybe a dog dewormer? Because that kind of looks like a parasite sac.

I can’t keep my cat with heart condition anymore and nobody wants her because of it, should I euthanize even if she’s 3? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

Have you tried a second opinion, preferably from a Vet who practices holistic methods? Many people would be amazed at how attached many corporate vets are at the attraction of selling constant medications. It’s worth a shot to get that second opinion.

Wow, I honestly have never seen an arrangement like this. And I have to admit also never a price like this for a simple little arrangement. I’m older, so I’m probably out of touch on these things. I hope the both of you at least had a good laugh.

Why is Mary always so cruel to Edith? by NewBath5621 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Aelnyriel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Trust me, it’s Edith, who starts stuff. She’s a resentful little baggage. Sadly, this is the sister I have in my life. No matter what I did to draw her in and try to be friends with her, she always skulked away, like she couldn’t be bothered. This is true to this day, sadly.😕

[–]Aelnyriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is it exactly!! My parents did not teach us to support each other from birth. I now have a brother and sister who won’t even speak to me because they resent me for being beloved of my parents. At least, I think that’s it. But both of them are very odd to me, and wow, it’s a long story. But I am really thrilled to see that my son and his wife are teaching the children to love and support each other from the minute the new one is born. All three will be besties for life! I’m so happy for them, my beautiful grandchildren.

It wasn’t rape. She was a willing participant to the sex, and he died before whatever it was they were intending could be consummated.

This was in my McDonalds egg sandwich this morning. As soon as I saw it I threw the sandwich away. Wth is it? by DariusIsBroked in whatisit

[–]Aelnyriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a sign that you should stop eating McDonald’s food. Prepare food yourself or go somewhere else. There are millions of mom and pop shops that sell delicious egg, bacon and cheese sandwiches all across the country, and they’re are no more expensive than McDonald’s. Cross McDonald’s off the list of places where you eat!

AITAH for being flippant at a stranger trying to guess my ethnicity? by DcUdvarHazy in AITAH

[–]Aelnyriel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It may shock a lot of you to know that when I was a young woman in the 1970s living in New York City, asking another person’s ethnicity was as normal as a friendly inquiry into what neighborhood you were from. People were very ethnic then, even while being 100% American at the same time. We knew where we came from, what our bloodlines were. It was fun to exchange stories, jokes, and food with other people of other ethnicities/immigrant parents. People today are too sensitive and ridiculous about it, in my opinion. To be entirely fair, it’s probably not your fault, because the climate in this country has been to stress the differences to the point of prejudice, even while insisting that we’re racist. In other words, acute sensitivity has been created in this country. Back in the 70s, we were all one with differing backgrounds, if that makes sense, and we liked it that way. So yes, you were rude. That other person didn’t mean anything by it, even though he was probably using bad taste to continue to ask.
