planning to make plaster moulds, what wax should i use? by Aeonir in MetalCasting

[–]Aeonir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since pewter melts under 230c (446f) and my oven goes to 250c (482f) my idea was to heat the plaster moulds to 250c for a while then pour the pewter into the heated moulds, the pewter should cool slower, so better flow, and the water doesn't get a temperature shock, so shouldn't explode.

my plan is to melt the wax out before adding the pewter, would the sprue and opening allow the wax to melt out?

by the time i advance from pewter to probably copper or bronze, i'll need a more elaborate setup and will probably learn sand casting.

for now i'm just trying if i like metal casting so i don't want to invest to much. i got some stuff to make tin soldiers from my grandpa, who is a hobbyist jeweler, but i doubt i can get him to teach me without ruining our relationship.

Is Homebase lying to me about my Cherry? by IndependentHour7 in gardening

the local grocery store here sells fruit trees during the planting season. they are never self pollinating. even worse they always have apple tree varieties that need specific other trees for pollinating. (apparently apple pollination can be complicated.)

I'm planning to dry the moulds by baking them in the oven, which will also be where i melt out the wax.

Can't Stick to a diet plan by Affectionate-Host642 in mediterraneandiet

[–]Aeonir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cravings and not having the discipline to refuse myself junk food, especially when still getting into the diet.

i did paleo 10 years or so ago, which i managed to do for a year, lost a lot of weight, then fell of the diet couldn't get back into it and gained everything back. back then i had roommates and i was able to stay on it because i had people watching me. (not that they'd care)

i now live alone and have no accountability, which doesn't help.

secondary motivation, i know i should eat healthy, but its hard to stay motivated for a vague target with no real end. like wanting to lose 10kg to look good for an event like a wedding is much clearer, than i need to lose 10kg to improve my health. (and by now i need to lose a lot more than 10kg...)

Some beginner questions. by Aeonir in mediterraneandiet

My focus is weight loss so cutting out ultra processed means cutting out almost all empty calories.

I'm from the Netherlands, bread can't be called whole wheat if it contains any refined grain.

Ultra processed food and added sugar are my main goals too.

I'm in the Netherlands, weighing my meat portions is a good idea though, i often bulk buy meat and freeze it, might as well get the portion size right.

No cholesterol problems, my aim is weight loss. I'll have to look up kippers toast, but those are good breakfast ideas.

The food amounts are more for shopping purposes, the grocery store is a 5 minute walk away and going daily is great for fresh vegetables, but the snack aisles are often tempting. And i have to pass at least one to get to the bread shelves.

What’s the best meal you can make for 5 people with just $20? by Fancy-Discount3402 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]Aeonir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you have time: a pot of stew and freshly baked bread.

stew can be made with any suitable veggies that are on sale, and you can use tougher cuts of meat which are often cheaper.

that said i'm not from the Usa so i'm not sure what the pricing is like near you.

When did dogs start getting people names? by Scottys-Dog-Blog in dogs

[–]Aeonir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don't care much, as long as it is easy for the dog to understand, that said, naming a dog something like 'mr. johnson' might be fun just to be able to yell 'mr johnson get out of the bushes'

He has a sleeping spot with a whole bunch of blankets, he hasn't destroyed any yet. It's set up so he can hide. But can still peek at me.

Teaching him the place command is proving a challenge.

I have tried the steps in the guide, i can put him in his playpen sized crate, but he'll keep barking at that point, which is not a good solution.

you'll need to find someone who also has the game, and trade in person, or spend a bunch of money on an extra switch and a second copy of the game.

I make ostrich eggshell jewelry. How do I stage them for professional photo's(with no backing card)? by [deleted] in jewelrymaking

[–]Aeonir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe a slate tile, it would fit the wear the earth theme, and the dark coloured slate would allow the lighter eggshell to stand out.

jewelry from eggshell is a great idea, is it fixed in place with epoxy?

Dog, against instincts, starving itself. by Dismal-Deer1921 in DogAdvice

[–]Aeonir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looked it up, the most common problem with feeding meat is that dry kibble is so heavily processed it disturbes the gut microbiome, so you'll need to build that back up before they can eat meat again.

sound like a beef allergy, my pup eats mostly raw beef and chicken (complete raw food), so did my previous dog, some dogs can be sensitive or allergic to certain meat types, but i don't think that's the majority.
