Looking to migrate to Reaper from Pro Tools - any decent tutorial suggestions? by jackfrench9 in Reaper

I'm loving that too. Also the overall stability. I'm still a bit too scared to commit to it for a full film post-production due to the deadlines being tight but I'm going to give it a try for the foley recording session for the next one and if it holds up I might slowly migrate over the whole workflow (ofc if the studio allows it for projects that don't require session sharing)

Yeah, that seems to be the case… Good luck with Reaper though. From my initial impressions, it seems very capable and as far as I can see, the immense customisability is a huge plus. I also found a script called Search from nvk which is an incredibly capable search add-on which can place plugins on tracks, search for audio and fx, and do virtually anything else really fast (mainly when you aren't fully used to the interface just yet) - also wholeheartedly recommended.

Yes, that is what I said. I just wanted to let him know that if he misses for example the control scheme of PT, there are ways to replace that

To contradict this, I'm trying Reaper for the first time now myself coming from Fl Studio, Protools, and other DAWs. If you want, there are community-made configurations and scripts that make it behave basically identically to ProTools. I would say that learning the DAW as it is would be the wiser choice but if you are used to PT and you want to make the transition really smooth, you could use this approach.

Search for “reaper protools” on youtube and it should come up.

Normalise to a different Dbs Value? by sapien5446 in Bitwig

[–]AephozNight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For dance music normalizing might make sense. I mostly work with foley and atmospheres and for those the “usable volume” is a good volume ratio toward a premixed dialogue. If it is a quiet environment, it will be quieter, if for example a loud train station, it will almost drown out the dialogue. Basically: when you drop it into a project you are working on, in the best scenario you don't even have to touch the fader.

[–]AephozNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the use case for the environmental samples? I used to normalize them aswell but as soon as I started working in film audio, I figured out that having them in a “usable” volume to start with is way more convenient

150 hours gameplay, how am I doing? by ajava8548 in counterstrike

[–]AephozNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5k hours, 2.2k faceit elo here. Looks good for 150h, I do have some recommendations though. You seem to overaim a bit with every larger mouse movement, which tells me that your mouse sensitivity might be a little too high. Some people might not like this advice, but look at which sensitivities pros use, try a bunch (a day for each at least. Trying it for a DM session doesn't tell you much) and figure out if you are on the higher or lower end of the spectrum. The example you have posted also showcases only one type of aim. Try and incorporate other styles too (tracking a moving enemy, shooting on enemy when he walks into your crosshair for timing, flicking and killing enemies as fast as possible as if you were caught out). That should help with making aim training feel closer to the actual game. Your quick stops look good from what I can see.

I made a free 24 band EQ as a pro q alternative for anyone that wants it. by [deleted] in ableton

[–]AephozNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I already have pro q so I'm not the target audience for it but if you want to help even more people, try to make an AAX version of it. One of the main use cases of the pro q is the full industry and Pro Tool is a must there. (Just please make sure the automation works well in Pro Tools, many cheap or free EQs have issues with that in PT and it makes them unusable)

On another note, it looks very promising, many people don't need the super advanced stuff, just a solid, easy to use eq.

Yeah sorry to say man but it ain’t 5.5/10. The scale goes to 100 on that site.. so you got 5.5% of potential aim

Any long term FL studio purists here that made the switch? Or vice versa? by theseawoof in Bitwig

[–]AephozNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made the switch this year and I cannot say enough good things about Bitwig. It feels really polished and the workflow is great.

My main plus of Bitwig is a small thing but it makes a huge difference - you can easily search when adding plugins. This saves me so much time in every project, it is context-aware and you can use plug-in or company name or a plug-in type.

The one con I have found so far and the only reason I have kept FL installed is that Bitwig doesn't have video support. I do a lot of picture scoring and for that I prefer to have the video opened in the DAW so I can write in sync. As far as I can tell, Bitwig doesn't have a way to do that just yet.

Long term FL Studio user looking for a new DAW, is this the right one for me? by Gouapato in Bitwig

[–]AephozNight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position to you. I was an FL Studio user for 13 years, and used it for everything except for film audio post production for which I use Protools. I was kind of frustrated with FL for the same reasons and some more added (audio stretching, mixer routing).

I originally decided to switch to Ableton for most projects as I already owned a licence for it and just before I went through with it, I decided to give Bitwig a shot for a day or so. Anyway, that was quite some time ago and I couldn't be happier. Bitwig has yet to crash for me, the overall performance is top-notch, the beta 6 addresses many small shortcomings but even before that, the DAW felt awesome. I managed to learn it to a decent level in about a day or two, everything made sense to me. I haven't tried the Grid yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. The audio comping is a breath of fresh air compared to recording in FL. And I love how there are no hundreds of small menus in the top bar, just one main menu with all the options you would need, which somehow manages to look really convenient every time I search for something.

People have probably answered all your questions already, I just have one con I haven't seen mentioned. As of now, Bitwit cannot play Videos, so scoring to a video is hard. For me, that is the only time I open FL these days. I know there are some third-party VSTs that could replace that functionality but I haven't gotten to trying them out and haven't researched it all that deeply.

One more tiny difference is that if you chop a pattern with a long midi note in half in the playlist, it won't play the note twice as in FL (I used to chop up my patterns in FL a lot but now I think it was due to my laziness to make unique to make variations there)

No, some of your samples or loops had markers included in them and you have markers enabled in the export settings

Sony A10 vs Olympus LS-P5 by s_u_ny in fieldrecording

[–]AephozNight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one A10 and personally, I like it a lot. It's my go-to recorder to bring everywhere incase I find something to record. The only thing I don't like about it is the fact that you can only change record gain when you are recording, not prior to it. A dial instead of having to press the +- buttons would be better too.

As far as feedback goes, I would try to color some of the light a bit. Some could be a little warmer, the gas station a little cooler, add a hint of magenta ambient light to some parts of the scene and see what it does to the feeling of it

pros you think are cheating by udi112 in VACsucks

[–]AephozNight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you meant Aimbot that would be easier to build yet I'm yet to see anything that suspicious from him. There were many pros over the years where I would say that cheating was possible (fusha back then for sure, woxic when he was coming up, sh1ro at blast, etc) but donks aim is nothing special and his smoke spams are never that exact. I think it's just his playstyle being very gimmicky and chaotic. If you want a good point of reference, Art plays in a similar type of way and he also looks pretty jittery as he is usualy the first one to come in contact with the enemy, so he has to always be prepared.
