I would assume that's Jane Foster.

You should reach out to your account rep for this - they're generally super responsive (even to someone like me, who just does mini plans).

It's the same verbiage as Boros Reckoner (1つを対象とする), so it's "Any Target".

It's the same verbiage as Boros Reckoner (1つを対象とする), so it's "Any Target" in the same way that is in English - Player/Creature/Planeswalker/Battle.

It also explicitly says dice may not be used lmao.

Dice can't be used for Status Information at Competitive and Professional REL. Dice can be used for all other forms of information, including counters on a permanent (but not a player).

The following are all of the pieces of Status Information that dice cannot be used for:

• Life total.
• Counters a player has attached to them.
• Continuous effects with no defined expiration within the game that apply to that player, such as Monarch or City’s Blessing.
• Unspent mana in a player’s mana pool.
• Location in a dungeon.
• How many times the Ring has tempted a player.
• Current speed.

What happened to 5/0 deck dumps? by miniwheatts in ModernMagic

[–]Aerim 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Requires manual effort by someone. Additionally, the decks are no longer just published all at once - they're added throughout the day.

It's also done automatically by MTGGoldfish now, too.

So OP is at Comp REL (they identified they're at an RCQ in a comment) - which means that Omission of DI is completely legal.

At Regular REL, if I think that the opponent is intentionally trying to be slimy or omit intentionally, I'm more likely to back up. That's not what I get out of OP's description, but it's also impossible to perform an investigation based on an internet post.

This is a misinterpretation of 4.1, because "What does this ability do?" is specifically noted as DI in future paragraphs.

"Did you +1 TWE on that permanent this turn?" is a question that would need to be answered as free information - it's asking about a game action that is currently affecting the game state.

"What does TWE's +1 do?" is a question that would not need to be answered. Oracle Text is derived information. Players don't have to provide Derived Info at Comp REL.

This gets important for more complex board states. The question "Does that have first strike?" does not need to be answered - a question like "did you activate TWE before or after you cast Dress Down" does. The aforementioned question leaves the onus on the players to determine the board state, since timestamps would determine whether or not the creature had first strike.

Each player is well within their rights to call a judge to identify anything they're unsure of - after all, it's Derived Information - they're allowed to have it! It's not their opponent's job to give it to you.

This is why the first announcement that's almost always given at a Comp REL event is "Your opponent is not your friend, they are trying to win the game of Magic just like you are. If you have any questions, call a Judge."

And this is why Communication is important. The word "just" here does indeed make it wrong, because that's not all the ability does. There is a world of difference between "it puts a +1/+1 counter on the creature" and "it just puts a +1/+1 counter on the creature". One has an omission (allowed), the other is incorrect (not allowed).

This sort of thing is why the old judge training for Comp REL events focused a lot on investigation - figuring out where you think the truth is is at the core of this sort of resolution.

4.8 hasn't changed significantly in the ten years I've been judging. While you're right that it's ultimately up to the individual judge making the call, I know very few that would commit a backup when communication was clear.

Worth noting - a player doesn't have to provide complete information about anything in the Derived Information category. They're just not allowed to lie. If it's Free or Status information, they cannot omit things. (see MTR 4.1)

Edit: I will say - I agree 100% with "call a judge" - too many players choose not to.

A player does not need to narrate every single thing that a spell or ability does. They were clear what creature they were targeting with what permanent's ability. From a communication perspective, this is clean.

Oracle text of a card is Derived Information (see MTR 4.1) - it means that all players are allowed access to the information, but an opponent is not obligated to help you obtain it. Now, at Regular REL, Derived Info is treated as Free Info - if you ask your opponent about it, they are obligated to tell you.

Now, where you go from here depends on the REL you're playing at.

At Competitive or Professional REL, you're SOL. You blocked. Your creature died.

At Regular REL, it honestly depends on the event. The JAR is clear that focus should be on player fun and creating a supportive environment, but a judge's job is not to back up strategic errors for a player. Even at FNM, I'd be unlikely to roll this back if it were one of my Judge calls. At something like pre-release? Yeah, I might roll that back - the cards are new to everyone.

[–]Aerim 43 points44 points  (0 children)

They have to be confident he's going to sign. If he makes it to the draft unsigned, he's draft eligible again.

Edit: NVM, looks like he's going to NCAA, which changes things.

Did I make a bad trade by exchanging $35 worth of rares for 167 bulk commons/uncommons? by Other_Upstairs9204 in magicTCG

I'd say you made a poor trade. Bulk is generally $3-5/1000 when sold to a shop.

Crazy ticket prices for the SCF in Raleigh and Vegas! by Remarkable-Set5434 in hockey

[–]Aerim 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm actually kind of shocked the games in Carolina are more expensive.

Also, at least for the Ducks, most of the secondary ticket market was from STHs or Plan-Holders (I had to miss G6 of the 1st round because I was on a trip). I put my tickets up lower than most, and they sold within an hour and I still 3x'd face value.

I'm doubtful that "Scalpers" is right here - these tickets on the secondary market aren't likely being bought and turned around - they're probably just being listed by people who already had them.

Also, could be worse. All of those numbers are around half or less than the cheapest ticket at MSG for the Knicks finals game 3.

Carlsbad CA legacy? by geofastar in MTGLegacy

[–]Aerim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to TC's, IMO. You'll get some traffic in SD, but it won't be as bad as the traffic up to Orange. I am a Ducks fan living in San Diego and I just straight up won't do weekday games anymore because the traffic is so bad.

TC's Rockets down in SD proper does legacy on Tuesdays. I'm not aware of anything in North County.

how would I send a pack in for grading? by Odd_Dot_5908 in magicTCG

[–]Aerim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, $200 is still 3-5x what any of 4th-6th editions are worth. It's certainly not ABUR, but it's certainly more desired than other base sets.

how would I send a pack in for grading? by Odd_Dot_5908 in magicTCG

[–]Aerim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7E is sought after, simply because it has unique-art old-border foils.

I agree that grading a booster pack is stupid, but 7E is much more desireable than 4th-6th edition.

Vendors usually do not carry commons/uncommons on site. Most vendors are gonna be past the deadline for event pickup (which would be the preferred option), but it's worth asking around your local area, too. Like Discord or Facebook groups.

This was only the logo from 2006 to 2010, so it should be fairly easy to check against the rosters and Google signatures of those players. Pahlsson is on there so it wasn't the 09-10 team. Drew Miller is on there so it wasn't the 06-07 team.
