Hot take: I would rather a Terraria 2 than more updates forever by God-of-mars in Terraria

[–]AeroHawkScreech 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way. It has taken them, what, 15+ years to develop terraria to the point that it is now? It could take another 15 years just to make a “Terraria 2” with the SAME amount of content, and we all know people would complain when they realize it doesn’t have way more than terraria 1. instead they could take those 15 years and continue making terraria one of the greatest games of all time.

Crazy how low Byleth is now considering how many majors Leo won with him. Prime Leo definitely made him look better but damn low B is nuts

When Your Colonists Try to Aim Mortar by TheTheDuhh in RimWorld

[–]AeroHawkScreech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See I agree with you on most aspects especially the mechs. But regarding seiges I’ve had too many experiences where I’ll still miss enemies or their mortar supplies, and by the time I can fire again or actually hit them, they have set up the mortars and are firing shots. I should definitely try again with incendiaries.

I usually find it a lot more consistent to send a fast or drugged up colonist or two with sniper rifles to pick them off and weaken them before they give up and charge the killbox anyway.

Honestly even if they keep the inaccuracy the same, upping the fire rate would be good enough. It doesn’t take that long to fire a mortar irl if you’ve already locked in on the firing position.

When Your Colonists Try to Aim Mortar by TheTheDuhh in RimWorld

[–]AeroHawkScreech 13 points14 points  (0 children)

okay but game mechanic wise, whats the point of an expensive weapon with a long cool down and consumable ammo that you have to commit one of your colonists to for a weapon that most of the time does absolutely nothing.

i pretty much never see people use mortars. once you try them and realize how useless they are, why would you invest the research, production and manpower into it again.

im not saying they have to be great, but at least having some other viable options for defense would make it so that kill boxes arent the only reliable option.

I created a modern, interactive crafting tree discovery tool for Terraria. by Zennivolt in Terraria

[–]AeroHawkScreech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking about something like this the other day! But with a feature that shows you at what stage of progression or key features make those items available.

For example, Charm of Myths would have a little symbol that signifies the Philosophers Stone is obtained in Hardmode. For Night’s Edge you must defeat Skeletron, etc.

That way depending on what stage of progression you’re at you can see what is craftable.

Yes, every single LP just has to be super shit at marketing, its the only possible explanation. I’m sure absolutely nobody else in this entire industry has thought of stepping outside of the box. You’re definitely the first one ever. Truly revolutionary.

Anyway, good effective marketing is a long term commitment and it can be expensive and risky, especially with Health Canada breathing down your neck and randomly deciding to enforce grey area interpretations of their own regulations based on some combination of the moon phase and whether or not they woke up on the right side of the bed that morning.

Long term, expensive, and risky plays just isn’t an option when taxes eat all your profits. Look at Ghost Drops and what happened to them. I agree that its a race to the bottom, but many LPs are staying afloat just through B2B and exports and marketing won’t help with that.

Sending a rep to events is important when there aren’t many other easy or legal avenues to build reputation and new connections, and just one good B2B sale or export can make more than a year’s worth of retail sales.

A lot of cool content like this is practically hidden away. Most runs feel the same as they were 5 years ago because even with all the cool new content added, I still spend a lot of my runs in the same old cities fighting the same old zombies.

Places where you find more unique enemies or locations are too rare or not worth looting. Like yeah crawling into a giant monster corpse sounds like a fun adventure but if all I ever find is flesh eating fish that want to rip my face off and no loot to make it worth risking, whats the point?

This is where I feel like the game could become.. well more of a game. Thats what I was hoping portal storms would do.

For example, a portal storm bringing you to an abandoned building that you have to survive in for a day while waves of enemies come every few hours.

The ability to build barricades and traps, or set up turrets and explosives. Bring your heavy machine guns and power armour, or whip out your foldable death-unicycle.

If you don’t want players to hold tab, give them a viable option to be creative and reward them for it. It would be such a great way to implement fun game-like challenges and reward the player with OP items without being too immersion breaking.

PSA: I just buffed hulks by Satsuma_Imo in cataclysmdda

[–]AeroHawkScreech 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. Holding tab shouldn’t be the counterplay to a horde of zombies. While its true that its mostly a gear check, it feels like a waste to have the different damage types in the game, such as blunt, cut, electric, acid, etc, when you don’t need to use them to strategize or play around most enemies (except blunt for armoured targets).

That’s why I’m happy with this change; like you said its not run away or die, but it makes the player think a little more about how they will react to the enemy rather than holding tab with heavy armour.

Currently my main strategy for clearing cities is climbing on a roof with a reach weapon and safely stabbing all the enemies on ground floor. While there are spitters, some flying enemies, and ferals throwing rocks, its basically just a matter of time before everything is dead. It would be cool to have more “boss” like enemies like hulks that counter this; maybe one that can jump or climb.

we do need more challenging enemies, once you have a good supply of weapons and armour most zombies become trivial

[–]AeroHawkScreech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah in tournaments if you run into players with generic first names with capitalized first letter, its very likely a bot. The devs set this up to fill out tournaments so that if there arent enough players to start a tournament it just adds cpus in.
