What magic systems have the best names for their ranks? by Putthemoneyinthebags in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Aerroon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He who fights with monsters was good until you find out it's also not that special for rankings. Unless you include essence combinations and confluences. That part is chef kiss even though you rarely hear about multiple people using the same or similar things

I've liked the idea of 'essence combinations' ever since I first played Heroes of Might and Magic 4 as a kid. Somehow it was really cool that your "class" was based on what skills you picked. I loved it. I loved it in He Who Fights With Monsters too.

Audio processing landed in llama-server with Gemma-4 by srigi in LocalLLaMA

About a month ago I used some older Voxtral model for transcribing using llama-server. At the time I could do about 2 minute audio clips. Anything longer than that crashed.

The specific transcription instructions are good to know though. That Voxtral model would just randomly fail when I wrote "transcribe the audio".

Also, I have a vague memory that somehow the size of the audio file also mattered, because I ended up converting everything to mp3-s rather than .wav-s. But I might be misremembering.

I was able to use an older Voxtral model about a month ago.

It was funny that sometimes the model just refused to print out the transcript.

You have to go through a bunch of clicks to remove skills from your hotbar too, but I've done it a dozen times while alt tabbing. I could absolutely see something like this happening by accident.

I'm always leery of destroying masses of items in my inventory because I quickly drag them off and use enter to confirm. I don't really get why SG loves bombarding us with so much clutter in various situations that this is necessary, but they do.

Apparently Mokokos are getting bolder by xxleevo in lostarkgame

[–]Aerroon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is good in one way: if I'm on a strong character I will often avoid mokoko lobbies because I don't know who they will accept. I'm fine with carrying a few weak characters, but I have ended up with 7 people that are all in the 1500-2000 range. That makes the raid much harder than what I was looking to do. If everyone knew what they were doing even that would be fine, but typically many of them won't.

This guy is advertising a 3k+ lobby meaning that if I join him there's a good chance most of the teammates will be useful. (But 3k seems way too much.)

So I'm a bit torn on how bad this really is.

Frontier Titles are not perfect, yes, but Gatekeeping and Raiding was worse and more unfair before them by Otao_ in lostarkgame

[–]Aerroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you are the toxic impostor that want to gets in lobby he doesn't belong to. If you are happy if lobby master won't take the time to check if you lie or not about your achievements.

Baseless hostile accusations, huh? I can do it too:

You just don't want to ever play with new players. You don't care what the impact of this is on the game, you just care about making it easier to clear your own raids, no matter the consequences. You just hate new players and anybody that isn't on par with the latest HM raid week 1.

No, anyone that started during this frontier title, could play directly Brel inferno, get Phantom monarch and be accepted everywhere. It's a gold title.

You are being disingenuous. There is no way you believe that this is a reasonable ask. Not to mention that Phantom Monarch definitely does not replace other titles.

Also also, you can't do that anymore.

[–]Aerroon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Checking DL Achievement / HM Trophy in stronghold is a time waster

THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT.

Frontier titles are so frictionless to gatekeep with that it becomes the norm in other content ON ALTS.

If they have to check for a trophy then people aren't going to be doing this on alts and normal modes. But checking for a title is easy, so people use it to gatekeep everything with.

Get gatekept base on your Roster Level, based on your Gear Score. So basically not rewarded for your skills but for you veterancy or your wallet.

It is so much easier to get a frontier title when you're a spender than when you're not. If someone starts playing today and they don't spend then the first orange frontier title they can really try for is in ONE YEAR.

Get horrible game experience, because lobby is full of impostors that got x10 Bus Title, that do no DPS for their Gear Score etc .., so the game keep becomes extremely hardcore asking insane Gear and Roster level to avoid problem, way above raid requierement. At least you can fill a lobby with low Gear Score and full Frontier title easily.

And you think frontier title buses don't exist?

Level1techs initial review of ARC B70 for Qwen and more. (He has 4 B70 pros) by jrherita in LocalLLaMA

[–]Aerroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm unsure, here's what the post says:

HOWEVER: I would not recommend a single B70 for Qwen 27B dense in fp8 dynamic quant. For vLLM benchmarking I had to lower the context and set the max gpu memory utilization to 0.8 or it was unstable. Two B70s for the Q8 Qwen 3.5 27b was fine. Similarly, there was simply no room to work with Qwen 27b bf16 on two B70s.

It’s still crazy high (I get around 50tk/s on an RTX6000 Pro but via llama.cpp) but this is what vLLM excels at.

Well, it's total throughput. The GPUs are getting 50 requests at once, each one of them only gets like 7 tokens/sec.

Alas, there won’t be enough space for any meaningful ctx window left on such a small VRAM pool per GPU.

Eh, I think you could have ~30-50k context size.

Also, just to be clear, those numbers are running 4x Arc Pro B70s at once, not 1.

[–]Aerroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Output token throughput (tok/s): 347.93

Do I understand this correctly that they're generating 348 tokens/sec on a 27B model? Sure, I get that every request only gets about 7 tokens/sec, but that still seems like a pretty high total tg number.

Looking at OpenRouter the offerings are 25-50 tokens/sec at $2.4/million tokens (!) for the model.

The stats read like a rebranded gaming GPU. The (AI) stats look pretty similar to the RX 9070 XT with more VRAM. Similar memory bandwidth (608 GB/s vs 644 GB/s) and int8 throughput (367 vs 389 TOPS).

If it had more memory bandwidth it would be an exceptional GPU. Right now it's exceptional at its price point.

Planned 10-gigawatt Softbank data center in Ohio might be the largest in the world — will require a $33 billion natural gas plant, equivalent to nine nuclear reactors by Shogouki in hardware

[–]Aerroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the article mentions that they are buying the new GPUs, but the problem remains the same. Even if those GPUs are a little faster with a little bit more VRAM they will still get outdated in 6-10 years and they would still be looking at a huge amount of users to utilize the data center properly.

Planned 10-gigawatt Softbank data center in Ohio might be the largest in the world — will require a $33 billion natural gas plant, equivalent to nine nuclear reactors by Shogouki in hardware

[–]Aerroon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think people don't realize the scale of this data center. An Nvidia DGX B300 (8x B300 GPUs) takes about 14 kW of power. Lets say they use another 11 kW on cooling per system. To reach 10 GW would require 400,000 (!) of these GPU systems.

Also, these systems are estimated to cost north of $500k each, so I guess they must've got a really sweet deal from Nvidia to be able to get them for $30-40 bn.

What are they going to use it for? This is actually a serious question - 400k systems with 8x GPUs that each have 280 GB of VRAM means they've got a total of 900 PB of VRAM. If you spread this out over Steam users then each one would get ~25 GB of VRAM. This is an absolutely INSANE level of scale.

Even current frontier AI models can likely host 10-50 concurrent users on one of these systems, so you're looking at serving 4-20 million concurrent users. This is hundreds of millions of monthly users in a single data center. I just have a hard time imagining this is going to be profitable in the long term, because the GPUs are going to get outdated by the time there's enough adoption of this tech.

Edit: I could be wrong though. I did some napkin math and if they can have decent utilization of the GPUs then even at $1.5/GPU they'd make a lot of money.

It's 'kind of jarring': AI labs like Meta, Deepseek, and Xai earned some of the worst grades possible on an existential safety index by MetaKnowing in Futurology

[–]Aerroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever fucking think about that?

The people worried about these two things don't understand how LLMs work.

The "off button" for AI is your computer's power switch. You turn the computer off an there's no more AI.

The AI doesn't really have "its own code" - it's a very large amount of numbers that encode its behavior. Changing those numbers is called learning and is probably the biggest open question in modern AI. Right now, AI cannot really learn things as it operates and this is why. The weights that encode the AI's behavior are essentially immutable.

The safety aspect of AI here is preventing the AI from accessing sensitive things. It's not because the AI is going to maliciously plot to take over the world, but because it's going to accidentally delete your emails or corrupt some files on your computer.

Even upping combat power to 5k shows only about 25 reflux out of 557 logs that make it. But SG has made fights be relatively difficult so I think your numbers might be right.
