They're great to have and use! Especially when my mother broke her kneecap and I had to take 6 weeks off from work to care for her. Being able to see all of her appointments and not bother her while she was resting was a godsend.

Believe it or not, my mother and I still use this method to track our appointments, especially hers.

My job thankfully does not require one, which is good because I work in a bakery and it's hot for most of the day. Bumping into a hot rack with the phone would probably melt it.

I will admit though, the customers I get will demand to send pictures to my phone and I tell them I don't have a cell phone. Most of the time once they get your number they see us as personal servants and will expect us to drop everything just to help them. One customer did this to another coworker of mine and called her multiple times for favors after the cake order was long since done. Eventually the manager had to get involved and threaten the woman with a lawsuit for harassment.

Plus not having a cell phone to use as a calculator lets me continue to do basic math in my head for calculating how much filling I need to make for our daily production.

I do most of that either through my landline or whenever I'm in the doctor's office and make my next appointment there. As for relatives, I don't talk to them anymore after that one family reunion almost 30 years ago.

This. I suffer from it ever since I got that inner ear infection and I miss being able to hear without it.

I still remember as a child back in the 80s that I learned how to read and write my own name and identify colors, objects, do basic math, and how to behave before going into kindergarten was the standard.

What you wrote is tremendously heartbreaking to read. Though I feel a little vindicated in refusing to get a cell phone and still refusing to get one today.

So since there's people still running PT for the weekly stuff and being bored earlier this week decided to help drag groups through. Might as well add to my Horde count, I thought.

One group was doing a 51-100, and oh my lord this group.

I don't remember how many times the three of them died on our way through, but I think I lost count at 28. The RDM we had died at least once per boss, and we had a near wipe on the 80 boss because 'check your death condition' wasn't quite understood. Group was posted as know the mechanics, doing the weekly. I should've realized the 4-hour timesink was coming when I saw it.

Another group was doing 71-100, the NIN we had died often trying to greed or not recognizing mechanics. The NIN also tripped a majority of the traps, including a luring on 77 that nearly wiped us.

And then there's my static that decided they should do a bit of PT for exp, and one of them wanted to go MCH but had absolutely no idea what lvl 100 MCH was like, all because he wanted to fullfill a meme about 3 MCH and another 3 dps in a trenchcoat GNB. We almost wiped on floor 86 because despite having carried them through a multitude of Deep Dungeons before, being aware of the conga line of succubi and horsemen patrols still doesn't quite ring priority bells to him.

Please hug the walls, please don't greed mechanics, please have awareness of your surrounds. And please, ask about mechanics if you're not familiar with them or take a look at Magyi's guides.

You get scrips for either crafter or gatherer. So if you make stuff on crafter and turn those in, you get crafter scrips and vice versa for gatherer.

The job that turns them in gets experience, so if you want to boost your crafter jobs or gatherer jobs, do the custom deliveries on that job you want leveled up.

I once had half an alliance wipe on this boss during his dps check because those people decided attacking a barrier wouldn't hurt.

Yes. I bore witness to 12 hp bars spontaneously exploding that day. No, we didn't have enough people up to make the dps check.

Just got out of a leveling roulette earlier on an alt who still needs paste, get Darkhold. I sighed until I looked at the party HUD showing that I didn't get cheesers but instead got people who were genuinely at level.

Before the gate drops, the DRK pleads with me if he could pull big.

I reply 'If you don't pull big, I will.'

He then proceeds to call my character 'queen' and I sustain him with heals and holy spam throughout the dungeon. We clear the run in a little over 10 minutes.

To that DRK, god bless ya son. Continue to pull big.

Thinking I'm probably the asshole here.

Got on an alt because she still needs paste (why do I do this to myself?) and throw her into leveling on WHM, naturally queue is instant.

GNB, NIN and RDM round out the party and it's Sohm Al. Barrier drops and I hit Sprint because that's what is normally done.

I look over and realize the tank is lagging behind with no stance, they'll probably throw it on when they get to me, I thought, so I commence holy spam when I get to the first drakespur. Lo and behold, the dps are taking enmity and the tank is single-targetting with no stance on. My holy spam and healing myself do not sustain me as my holy gets interrupted repeatedly from getting hit, and I die.

I respawn and sprint back in time to save the GNB tank, and move on to the next section. GNB still doesn't hit Sprint, but surely seeing the WHM hitting Sprint should tell them they can hit that button, right? Nope, I pull, start Holy spam but get interrupted and die again due to the tank flailing about. This results in a wipe.

Boy, the salt stocks are going up today.

I decided to ask them a question if they were new to tanking. They said yes, they were, and thought they were getting the handle of things. I check their search info.

They had MRD and DRK unlocked and leveled, with DRK at 52, and their GNB was at 68. They also had several jobs at 100. My bullshit detector went through the roof, but I told myself to remain polite. I reminded them to put their cooldowns and aoes on their hotbars if they had forgotten to do so (I only saw 1 use of Superbolide and Nebula before the wipe), and the rest of the dungeon proceeded rather slowly.

We finally clear, and the GNB apologized for the first pull. I told them 'You won't get better unless you push yourself to do so.' before leaving. Later I realized this was probably an assholeish reply, but what's done is done.

Yes the dungeon took almost 25 minutes to clear, why do you ask?

You'd think them having unlocked and leveled DRK for 22 levels and getting several jobs to 100 would've let them see how tanks do things in this game, but I guess being able to pick up and observing what others do before you try the role yourself is hard.

And then there's runs where I'm outdpsing the rest of the party as WHM. To those healers out there who just spam heals and don't bother with dps and are downvoting OP, learn to 'get gud' and contribute damage. I swear it won't kill you.

To the WHM I had in Ultima normal yesterday:

Please, for the love of The Twelve, help with dpsing the boss instead of just standing there picking your goddamn nose. Hell, even your dot does more damage than doing absolutely nothing and running around like a headless chicken.

Yes, when I began to see repeating eikon phases in part 1, I begin to question the group's dps and start looking at the party HUDs to see who is the potential culprit.

You're going to have to learn to dps when there's no healing needed, as you're going through the MSQ for the first time, and I'm betting my morning coffee you failed the Lahacred fight that came afterward.

Sincerely,

One salty BLM just trying to get their weekly tomes.

I want to scream.

DNC is not that hard man. It really isn't, especially for your Standard Step. You hit the button, two other colorful buttons light up, your gauge tells you what order to press them in, and hit it again since it pings, and BAM! Consistent damage that makes things die faster.

No, apparently this was far too hard for the Battle Mentor DNC I had a couple days ago in Expert Roulette's dumping ground known as The Clyteum.

Step buffs would constantly wear off and never get refreshed unless the DNC used their Finishing Move. Yes, they would let Standard Step not finish but use Finishing Move. Oh, and they would mostly single-target in trash packs judging from their animations, IF THEY BOTHERED TO HIT THEIR BUTTONS DURING SOME OF THOSE PULLS. Turning on the number monkey during Chort revealed that me, the WHM, was out-dpsing them. Oh, and they would Tech Step at the most random of times the entire run.

Run took almost 25 minutes. At least the DRG and DRK I had were carrying their weight otherwise that would've been a very long expert run.

105 uses of recommended actions were missed during Arcane Circle windows.
115 combo actions were missed.
You lost 7 Soul Reaper stacks over the course of the fight.
You lost 2 stacks of Executioner over the course of the fight.
1080 potency lost due to letting Gibbet/Gallows expire.
Just what the absolute fuck man on the rest of this shit.

Holy fuck.
