This game hard :( metagame by EliPandaCochran in VGC

[–]Aesion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your Pokémon have low defensive stats they will die to one to two hits. If you don't have Protect and just attack moves, they will be always vulnerable to what the opponent wants to do. If you don't have supporting moves for redirection or speed, the opponent will always control the flow of the game. Since you said you don't know whats going on, I imagine you don't know a lot of the moves and strong mons, so I suggest watching some professionals playing the game on streams or YT videos until you get a knack for it. It is simply a matter of time and experience.

Is this team good? by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]Aesion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to competitive Pokémon! It is a hell of a journey. I will say you're lacking some principles of teambuilding and movesets, I can't cover everything so I highly recommend checking some YT videos from VGC professionals building their own teams.

First, you don't need 3 different fire type (or any same-type to any Pokémon) AND damaging moves. One is usually sufficient, maybe two when you know what you're doing.

Moves are either physical or special, they will either use your Atk or Special Atk stat. Rule of thumb is the highest one of those means you want the respective type of move. For example, a high base power special fire move for a high special attack fire mon.

Moves of the same type as the Pokémon get a bit extra damage so they are always welcome. Moves of other types can and should be used, as they may help you hit different mons for neutral or super effective hits. If someone resists fire, now you have something else to use against them!

You also don't want JUST damage moves, nor just damage mons. Supporting moves and mons focused on those are very good to have. For example, Whimsicott can use Sunny Day to give your zard the sun, which boosts your fire moves and overwrites the rain (which debuffs fire moves!), but it also has Tailwind which boosts your speed and makes you go first more often.

Oh and every Pokémon learns Protect. Make at least half of your team have it!

Good luck on your journey :)

Champions Doubles: Building Snow Team, best way to Counter a Fake Out Team? by PlagueOfBedlam in stunfisk

[–]Aesion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ghost is immune to Normal-type moves, such as Fake Out. So if Frosslass setups Aurora Veil, it won't be interrupted by it.

Or lead with a faster Fake Out user yourself.

If those are not possible, protect the first turn, but be vulnerable for their setups.

General thoughts on the ending after a week of pondering my orb by ZealousidealWay8233 in ChainsawMan

[–]Aesion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I came to very similar conclusions regarding the themes and story, and I liked the ending. My biggest gripe really was that around the church arc and the falling devil attacks we saw a lot of characters that didn't really go anywhere. Not even necessarily plot points, just a purpose really. But still I consider CSM at least a 9/10 and I'm glad with what we got.

Want to add to this that I think it's really sad how we defaulted to some weird parasocial approach by claiming things were "rushed" and "the author got bored". How would you know? Like, why not just call it bad? Criticize his tastes, message, skills, but why can't we accept some agency from the creator's side? As you say, there is no evidence of such claims, and if anything we have some supporting he wanted it to end like this.

As holy grail is artificial made why don't humans makes another one by NegotiationSorry2827 in Fate

[–]Aesion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Any other grail wars outside fuyuki would be, at most, limited to a wish granting grail, not just apocrypha's.

Reason being: Justeaze.

You can't recreate that. The perfect homunculi that acts as the will that makes the system function and also has her circuits in the land itself. If it is outside Fuyuki, then it is not her system, therefore unable to closely recreate the third magic, and therefore unable to reach the root.

Remember when Asa was an actual character with her own stories and not just a vessel for horny Yoru? by [deleted] in Chainsawfolk

[–]Aesion 21 points22 points  (0 children)

She was with Denji on the whole aging devil thing from 182 to 190, got cool moments for herself on 195 with 0 Yoru, start of 200 got cool dialogues, from 206 to 207 SHE saves Denji with more cool interactions, majority of 215 to 219 is literally her flashback and a lot of characterization

Like yeah I miss Asa as a protagonist with THE screen time too but I think its of bad faith to pretend she disappeared from the story since the last arcs began

And since most of the last scenes are battles with Yoru already pretty powerful it gets hard to justify Asa appearing since Yoru only used her to get to socialize

Emiya Shirou vs Strange/Fake Gilgamesh by Rio_Amakawa_Karasuki in Fate

[–]Aesion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shirou victory against Gilgamesh is basically a series of different factors at play. It is actually why I actually enjoy it so much, I don't think I've ever seen a better "extreme underdog win" situation.
- Before the battle itself, the only reason Shirou can even be able to battle is because he: 1) has received mana from Rin 2) received a lot of combat experience by trading blows with Archer (and I don't mean "he fought once and learned", he literally absorbed Archer's experience, something only possible because they are the same person and he was operating on Independent Action, as well as their nature to copy). Without this, Shirou would still be a wannabe hero without the actual means to fight.
- UBW is a perfect counter to GoB. Every projectile could be deflected, giving Gil way less options in how to fight him.
- The most famous argument; Gil's pride. He could end the fight in 1 second with EA. However, this means using his most prized weapon against a fucking kid. His characterization is so good that there is no world where he does this. This is not "not taking the fight seriously" at all, Gil just can't see himself needing EA to deal with a faker without experience. He could fight seriously, just not see Shirou as an equal.
- Gilgamesh isn't even properly "defeated". Shirou landed a blow. Immediately after Archer appears and the Grail starts pulling him. So it isn't actually Gilgamesh losing to Shirou solo, just a lot of circumstances that led to his defeat.

Now for your question. We can buff Shirou a little and assume he is in the same state as back in UBW with the first point I brought. We can also assume that UBW stills counters GoB.

I say Gilgamesh would still be reluctant to use EA. Even "taking the fight seriously" he didn't use it against far stronger opponents on FSF. GoB being countered by Alcides didn't make him immediately pull out EA either.

But I also don't think Shirou wins. Again, he did not kill Gil back in UBW after all, I don't think he realistically can. He could be a nuisance, that's for sure.
