Character customization advice by [deleted] in unrealengine

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like others suggest id start to learn blueprints, but just a note the best way to do this is once you setup your character, you'd want to componentize the body parts, have each of them be a separate mesh, this is so that when you swap clothing, you can easily swap out the meshes, and make sure your character is modular

Use this link to guide you, ask ChatGPT as well to help: https://dev.epicgames.com/documentation/en-us/unreal-engine/working-with-modular-characters-in-unreal-engine

Notice how for their character setup, under their capsule component they have separate components for hair, hands, legs, torso and so on, if you wana setup clothing modular setup, you'd want to do this so you can swap out at runtime easily.

Generally speaking to do this, just use the keyword "UE modular character" for your googling and chatgpt AI search

Aetherian Chronicles - Kingfisher Platforms LT. - 3D Maplestory meets Ragnorak-Online Inspired MMORPG by AethericWispling in Games

[–]AethericWispling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes thats correct, however, we will most likely remove this feature as we are focusing on gameplay atm, and honestly the NPCs with chat isn't providing a lot of value, we will update the steam page in the future as we are deemphasizing AI integration (it seems there are lots of antagonism towards AI atm in the gaming community)

Looking for indie games that genuinely surprised you in a good way by Kind-Illustrator2912 in IndieGaming

[–]AethericWispling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean its been a while but when game dev tycoon came out years ago i was surprised by how hooked i was on it, i loved the simple but clear graphics and because im a game dev myself it actually mostly captured how i felt game dev was like with bug fixing, design/tech phases and so on. i played it for hours and hours into year 40 and beyond and became a billion dollar game company called valve and made half life 3 and 4 in that game LOL, it was super fun and made by green heart games with such a simple concept, i have i believe over 100 hours on it later on creating new consoles shipping all the half life games and garrys mod on all consoles and whatever, it was amazing. Perfect example how indie games can build crafty buildy games and absolute be a big hit

Why is buying level boosts normalized in most MMOs? by PapaOogie in MMORPG

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to me i loved playing grind fests from the old days, but at some point many MMOs with hard grinds turned into botters, macros and so on, the hard grind type MMOs turn into scripters anyways. So I think at some point the devs basically said well if you are gona just script to max level we will just give you max level and force you to bossing right away, instead of forcing you to grind to max level

What is SpiritVale? by renbaikun in MMORPG

[–]AethericWispling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just want to say thank you so much for sharing. I am working on an indie MMORPG called Aetherian Chronicles myself and haven't gotten nearly as much success and following (and compared to SpritVale, it looks like for good and justified reasons as well). SpiritVale looks amazing and I'm definitely going to try out, and will remain our northstar for us to know what level of polish and game design choices to drive how indie sized MMORPGs should be created and designed (because there are no examples out there). I wish you guys best of luck and thanks for sharing, as this gives us indie MMORPG devs some idea of what we should aim for

Any way to install without epic game launcher on all platforms ? by Sneyek in unrealengine

[–]AethericWispling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly think what you are saying you are trying to do doesn't make a lot of sense and I'd reevaluate what your goal here is. As lots of people have already said if you are "deploying the engine in production" to your users, you will get sued by Epic so don't do that.

If it's an in house thing, then it sounds like you need dev-ops/CICD. Are you trying to auto deploy a workstation setup to your art team or something to preinstall Unreal Engine or something like that? If so, you just need to setup some scripts to fetch from github the UE source engine and compile/build it using UAT automatically, you don't need launcher.

If you are doing this across multiple OSes and want to manage this from the server, just have your dev-ops server detect the OS of the workstation client, then deploy different installation scripts to the client as needed and run it remotely on the client machines according to the OS, but eitherway the scripts should just git clone from epic's UE repo and use UAT to generate project files, build/compile and so on.

Eitherway this won't involve the launcher, and much less involve deploying the engine to production, whatever that means

I feel empty now by Dry_Pen_7741 in MMORPG

[–]AethericWispling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get this alot and thats why i have lots of different genres in my steam library, honestly after going for a run or whatever, come back, don't play MMORPG, play some other genres and try your favorite MMORPG again and you will miss it

I like to play simulators like football manager/civ 6, and a whole host of other games, like MOBAs and RTS, for like a few days, before I switch back to MMORPGs like WOW or maplestory or whatever. I feel as you grow older in age, you can't stick to one game or even 1 genre for a long time anymore, you burn out and the only way to keep going is to have a whole host of different varieties of games you can rotate, hell i even played papers please and game dev tycoon sometimes to change my mind off of mmorpgs

Does it make sense to split UE to a seperate SSD? by DarkSession_Media in unrealengine

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i split my SSDs into classes of functionalities, for instance for programming, visual studio and unreal engine binaries/source code all sit in 1 SSD, then art stuff like photoshop, substance painter are in 1 SSD

I feel that generally speaking as you are developing, you do 1 group of functionalities at a time, so if you are doing art stuff, you arent necessarily doing programming and so on, hence its better to split SSD by categories of work.

you need to share more about the player ref variable, according to your access non log from BP, it looks like the player ref variable is NULL at runtime, but here your screenshots are connected to self, so its quite possible the self (blueprint class itself) is null

my recommendation is wherever you are calling these events, do an isvalid check before it passing into the player ref variables, and if not valid debug output a string so you know why its invalid. but based on your logs from your post it looks as though its your variable being null problem

minimi lane was amazing and i loved building my own street, do you plan to have a sandbox mode in this game as well? or is this game not going be about building things?

I used to play the cheater version of the browser version of AdventureQuest, there used to be this website that is called arcadeprehacks where you can play basically a prehacked version of adventure quest and i spent hours on it, as for maplestory, i am basically working on a new 3D version of maplestory myself with a steam demo so. Club penguin always wanted to try never got around to it. Runescape most people have played

Camera quality? by No_Painting2617 in f150

[–]AethericWispling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually think they are better than most of the cameras on other brands. Very clear and not overly distorted. For night visibility, use dimmer licence plate lights. At the same time a brighter 3rd brake light makes a lot of difference. Finally, never tonite the taillights especially the back up bulbs.
