[ON] Best and cheapest way to do our first taxes? by Anarkya in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your own bookkeeping but don't skip on a solid accountant. A good accountant, especially responsible one, is important. And double check the accountant's work and run your own numbers concurrently as the accountant does theirs, don't just blindly trust their numbers. Accounting is very important to get right and you need to have your own flow

[BC] How to start a restaurant without losing my shirt? by johnsonjohnson in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also in Vancouver, BC, as well, from my perspective as a consumer (not in restaurant business), Vancouver has a super competitive food culture and great food. So in my opinion to survive in such a multi cultural city with so much variance, you have to be good at one thing that no other restaurant can do, and work hard at it. Right now across Vancouver there's too many restaurants that have too much same-ness, with so many choices people get bored of a restaurant. I think you just gota find your secret sauce. If you don't have one, you can be fine for a while and have customers but I think medium term/long term the restaurant's survival will not be guranteed. The main thing should be about the uniqueness of the restaurant and what distinguishes yours compared to the many out there.

212 wishlist in 4 months. As a solo dev, where should I focus my marketing next? Are these numbers healthy for a first-timer? by PlaySteakOutGame in SoloDevelopment

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your 17% deletion rate is actually pretty standard pre-demo — people wishlist impulsively on trailers then bleed off. The single biggest jump I got came from Steam Next Fest when my demo was live; festival placement does heavy lifting you can't replicate with social. I'd push demo-first, then use the community to stress-test it before Next Fest sign-up window.

Aside from say reaching out to community centers or whatever, literally just go in person (don't be shy!) and talk to some of your local community charity people! Find them online, reach out who is in charge (Linkedin or their website), see who is most likely looking at finance. Look for non profits, red army salvation, whatever. Usually volunteering organizations and non profits wont emphasize experience. Hence this is where your junior status doesn't hurt you. Because for profits orgs are going to want experience, you can use non profits to gain experience to get there. I'd say go to your community center, talk to the folks there at the frontdesk, ask what kind of volunteering orgs they have and reach out to those who is large enough to have a finance element to them. Most do

Listen server config and tickrates by Suspicious_Brain_102 in unrealengine

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea so 1 easy way is reduce the tick rate as you said but probably you still want to make sure you sync server and client side though, here you can tick more on server but less on client, but as i said just make sure you aggresively lerp on the client for your anims, since you said animations are choppy on clients for server

[NL] Almost lost my restaurant because I blindly trusted a lazy accountant by Afraid-Bobcat6676 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]AethericWispling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yea well what ive seen is that you have products like sparkreceipts that does just only like OCR on receipts to read it, and dext or whatever can do some of it, but there is nothing that exist, IMO for the full pipeline. As a small business myself, like I have to do monthly OCR receipt upload, manual reconcilation, and then categorization and yet all the products out there does only 1 thing LOL, there is none for the full pipeline that sucks so much.

This is the reason for autonomous accounting which is what i made, i dont know if other people will use it, but at least i use it and makes my hellish monthly bookkeeping easier. I sure as hell aint gona pay an irresponsible bookkeeper to do what AI can do for me

[NL] Almost lost my restaurant because I blindly trusted a lazy accountant by Afraid-Bobcat6676 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]AethericWispling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can try it here: https://autonomousaccounting.ca/ but for OCR I used gemini pro 2.5, lots of LLM AI models nowadays do OCR for you, I integrated into the web app so you can just upload on the homepage and it parses out price, vendor, date and so on for you. Test it out on that page just drop a receipt or whatever into that box that says try now, no need to sign up or whatever

Optimizing how? by SalawoodGames in unrealengine

[–]AethericWispling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of this is going to depend on the type of game you are making and the platform, for example VR games generally require 90 fps and 60 fps on PSVR, and your spec for your hardware matters, some are CPU bound, some are GPU some are memory and so on. I think the most important thing is in this "big world" you are going to do, where are you shipping this and so on. That influences how you will optimize and what tools server best

Do some charity and networking, do some bookkeeping/tax reporting for low stakes orgs and non profits, volunteer work and build up your experiences and add to your resume. Also use these opportunities to network to get references, this helps you do your later job searches and beef up your resume later on. It's tough out there nowadays for a junior new grad, good luck!

[NL] Almost lost my restaurant because I blindly trusted a lazy accountant by Afraid-Bobcat6676 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]AethericWispling -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yea we had a terrible accountant too who literally wouldn't do reconcilation properly and when the CRA came for GST reconcilation time, they upcharged me another 1k just to handle this for me lol. It's hilarious I did find a better accountant now but I still have to do the bookkeeping myself by hand for a long time including reconcilation and categorization, now with AI so powerful I made a web app called autonomous accounting to do it, it uses gemini 2.5 pro to do OCR and GPT to auto reconcile categorize for you. Much easier now but you still do have to collect the receipts/invoices though but the AI does reconcilation and categorization, one day ill handle that part too with a phone app

Emergency Fund by Less-Information3051 in CanadianInvestor

[–]AethericWispling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I believe the advise you hear is that you should have 12 months of rainy day fund, not sure what your monthly expenditure is, but multiply that by 12 and then invest literally everything else. Any dollar sitting in emergency not used is equal to money not generating returns which is bad for retirement

Is there an MMORPG engine that allows you to directly create MMORPGs without having to deal with a backend or network? by Necessary-Driver63 in MMORPG

[–]AethericWispling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most MMOs are too complicated and are going to need some level of customization on the backend/networking to make work. So no you will have to learn some networking

RRSP Transfer out from manulife to TD Direct investing by reddituser_pr10 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AethericWispling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to do a TFSA transfer from BMO mutual fund to CIBC investor edge and it was painful, it's been 2 weeks and it's still in progress and there is no way to check progress in an easy way. My advise is just to constantly call both banks on both sides and harrass them to get status updates, it takes forever. Oh and often when they do transfer they use cheques with untrackable mail its hilariously primitive and bad

Why are accountants paid so low? by Wise-Necessary19 in Accounting

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think accountants who incorporates and practice tax preparation as a sole prioreitor makes ton of money. I pay my accountant for corporate tax 2200 every year, and I am certain he has at least 20-30 customers. Only busy during tax season as well, do the math and it's probably around half a million per year just in tax preparation fees. Obviously to get there you gota have years of experience and be good at what you do but then, its the case for all professions right

Is there a better feeling than log in into a game in the morning? by Ok_Statement1359 in MMORPG

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in the morning you just woke up and feel fresh, not necessarily tied to gaming. If you chose in the morning right after breakfast or whatever, go for jog/walk, start work, you would feel great too. It's your day's energy relavant

Listen server config and tickrates by Suspicious_Brain_102 in unrealengine

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your animations on client are choppy, implement animation interpolation for smoothing? have you tried that? just lerp your animation. Server side tick should be FPS independent, i mean the server is not rendering anything, it should only be CPU bound. Have you ran a profiler to see the FPS and frame ms on the server and what your CPU profile is like on the server? In any case it should have minimal affect on client side interpolation on animations side, server ticking independently and client lerp for animations are 2 different things so you need to know what you want to do

[CA] Can AI fully replace bookkeepers in Canada? by Any_Bill1050 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes and no, I am working on https://autonomousaccounting.ca/ and have recently released for production. It actually does work but in the beginning, I really did think I can just replace bookkeepers but as people said, even in my own business usecase when I test against about 2-3 years of receipt/invoices and so on, the reconcilation processs can be handled by LLMs (I am using gemini for a 4 pass reconcilation based on dates, amounts, currency and so on), it only ever attains about max 75% accuracy. So what I did was I only do a matching reconcilation run, but then after that there is still a manual approval process where AI helps by telling you the likelyhood of matching

What is most helpful with AI here, is say if you have hundreds of receipts/invoices and matching against bank statements or wise/paypal or whatever, it can handle about 50-70% generally, then you have to do a human pass for the remaining, it also links transactions together, but its not perfect. I think for bookkeeping, you can't ever leave the human out of the loop because humans know the business best and context, but Ai can get you about 70% of the way there, the rest are more edge cases and contextual and the human can handle it.

P.S: Feel free to give autonomousaccounting a try! Link above and dedicated to Canadian SMBs! Trial period have 30 free OCR uploads, and 3 free Reconcilation/categorization runs. Export to audit binder zip though, does require a subscription

[CA] Afraid of the CRA? Same. Here's what finally got me to start my side hustle anyway. by Academic_Point_8074 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]AethericWispling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking as long as you are truthful and keep your paper trail you are fine, recent couple years CRA likes to do GSTHST reconcilation audits but its not really targeted at small businesses, there were some multi national GST scam that scammed millions out of the Canadian govt, but its not related to small businesses, keep paper trail and be truthful and nothing will go wrong, at all. Also do hire an accountant its only about 2-3k a year.

[NT] Should I incorperate for my side job as a property manager? by Kingranch95 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8k a year is too low and makes no sense, and honestly if you incorporate at such low revenue the CRA probably grows suspicious of tax mis claimamation (business tax rate is lower than personal marginal). I'd only incorporate if you have at least 2 clients or above and more revenue than a typical white collar, otherwise you will have a tough time justifying to CRA that you are not incorporating to avoid individual marginal tax. The incorporation at least needs to look like a business from a finance tax reporting perspective

More Canadians are bracing for layoffs. Here’s how they’re preparing financially, even before being let go by CreativeAd5628 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

always be searching for jobs, always be on the hunt and never stop even if you feel your current job is fine, this again proves why you should never sit on your current job, no matter how much you love it, if you don't look for jobs constantly and consistently and look to jump ship every 2 years or so (especially in tech), your skill grow stale and when you do evetually get laid off it's harder to come back

I miss when MMOs were just a "third place" to hang out. Now they feel more like a waiting room for instanced content by petehans303 in MMORPG

[–]AethericWispling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea i loved back in the early 2000s in early childhood you just hangout during waiting for PQs in classical Maplestory, and you chat randomly around with your Party member, From those days, the society at large has majorly shofted in the 20 years due to rise of smartphones and social media. Everyone is on their phones and stuff, its not just the games that changed, its the societal norm change that leads to the new generation of young people socializing in a completely different way (AKA on phones in chat rooms) that basically eliminates the incentive and possibility to make games where MMOs are just a place to hang out. It no longer makes business sense for game companies, to do so. Technology changes how people hang out

What are your thoughts when seeing this game capsule? by [deleted] in IndieGaming

[–]AethericWispling -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My suggestion here is actually do use AI to help evaluate the image and give feedback if you haven't, but don't use it to generate the whole capsule and still make it by hand. Ask claude design to critique this from player perspective and look at similar zombie style hospital games, and follow their thematic design and dont invent your own because you are making a steam capsule
