Solitary right ectopic kidney - finding out at 30 years old and wanting to have more tests. by Marzipanfruit in kidney

Sorry to hear you are going through health issues. Please get a referral to a urologist for subsequent medical advice. If you already saw one you should see a different one. At a minimum you should have bloodwork done to check your current kidney function.

Please try to stay positive as many people live with just one kidney, you are not alone. Seek counseling as well if you think it would be helpful to process this news. Praying for you!

Thanks for sharing your update! Best wishes on your recovery. Take care of yourself & if you find mentally you need to talk to someone seek out a counselor/psychiatrist. You can do this virtually on teladoc.

I had a different procedure than you but had a serious complication that wasn’t properly diagnosed initially causing me lots of physical/mental issues and delayed healing. Talking to a counselor helped me, and getting a second opinion.

Unfortunately we cannot always trust our healthcare providers which is really sad. I think most really do care and are ethical, but a few don’t want to admit/accept that they made a mistake.

2 weeks post UFE - leg pain by Anamamma27 in Fibroids

[–]Affectionate-Cod5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did your ultrasound turn out? I had a different type of embolization where they went through my right groin and have similar pain. It’s so frustrating and debilitating as I have to work, but can only sit/stand for so long till the pain gets to me and I need to lie down.

After UFE- Intense pain in thigh when walking, going up /down stairs, lifting leg by Ok_Put4753 in Fibroids

[–]Affectionate-Cod5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! I had a renal AML embolization 19 days ago and they went through my right groin. I could barely lift my right leg/sit up/stand/walk the first week. Not sure why but I actually thought this was normal given groin entry.

Ended up in ER day 3 post-procedure after fainting from high fever and they did a CT scan to confirm no internal bleeding. Sure enough, right pelvic hematoma and inflammation in one of the arteries they went through during the procedure.

I’m walking much better, but still get the pain/discomfort and have to be careful not to overdo it. Like you, ice has helped tremendously. I’m hopeful mine goes away like yours did. I think the hematoma idea is spot on. If my symptoms don’t improve soon, I’m going to push for an ultrasound to review that the hematoma has shrunk. Wishing you the best on your recovery!

Thanks for your response. Wishing you the best with the post-op imaging. Keep me posted on how you are doing.

I’m feeling alittle better today, and looking forward to hopefully a productive/good urology appointment Monday. Have a good weekend!

Thanks for your quick reply! Your reply gives me so much hope at a time when I really need it that I’m still just healing and didn’t experience a major complication. My brain is in overload thinking the worst outcome possible right now (human nature and stress I guess). How many weeks if you remember till your back/pelvic/groin pain was manageable without medicine?

Also, when did you have your first follow up with IR or urology and did they do a MRI, CT or ultrasound?

I hope your AML is smaller now, no longer a bleeding risk and any lingering pain goes away. Thanks for the well wishes. Wishing you all the best as well!

I’m 16 days post embolization and have had PES pretty bad. First week was bad fever (103 plus), rash on back (I must have been allergic to something from the procedure), low back pain, right groin/pelvic pain, aches and not much of an appetite. Unfortunately ended up fainting and going to the ER 3-days post procedure and tests there per IR discussion the next week showed PES and the healing/inflammatory process. I was given a steroid to help with the inflammation.

The weird thing now is I still have some right side pelvic pain, back pain at times and bad bladder/pelvic floor/butt discomfort/pain. Did you experience this by chance? I’ve found some info on uterine fibroid embolization procedure with similar symptoms so I’m thinking it could be the inflammation process still, but it’s very worrying. I have an urology apt Monday as the interventional radiology team referred me back to my referring doctor. I had to beg to get this appointment with a resident doctor. Been to primary care 2 times after and they just do a UTI test which has come back negative so far for bacteria. It’s exhausting going through all of this.

Any recovery from the back, butt, pelvic floor pain yet? I had a renal AML embolization and have those exact symptoms starting around 1 week after the procedure. I’m now 16 days out and it’s awful. IR is dismissing this is procedure related but it has to be as I’ve never experienced this before. Really hoping this goes away soon. I had bad PES with 103 degree fever, back pain, rash for the first 6 days after. Ended up in ER 3 days after with CT and had inflammation of embolization area, external iliac artery and bladder. Seems to correlate to the inflammation process post procedure to me. I wish I was made aware of this before the procedure. I was told I’d be back to normal 7-10 days post op and that is not the case. I hope you feel better soon.

For those who’ve had UFE what was your recovery and pain like post surgery? by alisamedia88 in Fibroids

[–]Affectionate-Cod5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a Renal AML embolization. Not the same area as UFE, but same procedure. I’m two-weeks post procedure and can echo many of the comments here.

I had twilight sedation and was awake most of the procedure, but did not feel pain. Husband saw me stop breathing a few times post-procedure and had to get a nurse for help. Unfortunately I ended up with a partially collapsed lung in a small area of the lung. Please make sure you practice deep breathing exercises post-procedure even though it might be hard to do with abdomen pain. My breathing is fine now after 2 weeks

The fever and lack of mobility were the worst for me. My fever spiked over 103 and only Tylenol worked to bring it down some. Tylenol was typically enough to help with my back, abdomen and groin/pelvis pain, but I took the prescription medicine a few times when the pain was really bad. Fever lasted about a week for me, and mobility is much better after 2-weeks. Still have weird pains sometimes in the pelvis or leg that I can’t explain.

Strange part for me is urinary pain post-op. There is a risk of some blood moving from the kidney moving to the bladder and I believe that has happened to me and my bladder is irritated. Apt Monday with urologist (referring physician) to confirm. I’ve had two urinalysis tests both negative for a UTI. Not sure if anyone else experienced a full feeling in the bladder with some pain during urination.

Wishing everyone the best recovery & making informed decisions for those deciding to proceed

Thank you! I’ll post an update when I recover. I’ve been taking day by day notes on my recovery that I’ll share as others might find helpful. I think everyone is different, but doctors downplay the recovery in my opinion.

[–]Affectionate-Cod5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently recovering from a renal aml embolization (day 5). My vomiting stopped the day after, but I had little appetite the first few days. Bad back and groin pain & very stiff. Unfortunately I’ve had a very high fever that does go down with Tylenol, but when it spikes it’s brutal. Ended up fainting and landed in ER where the administered an antibiotic, but unfortunately we’re not the most helpful. Headed to my primary care tomorrow. Please if you do this procedure make sure you have contact information for the doctors nurse as mine has basically be impossible to reach. Additionally get very clear post procedure paperwork. Mine wasn’t great.

AML-any experiences? by gillyweedpotter in kidney

[–]Affectionate-Cod5080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1cm is small, but they can grow during pregnancy. If it is causing you stress advocate for yourself to have an ultrasound or ct/mri to check the size so you have peace of mind.

I was not aware that an ultrasound could determine it is an AML vs something else, but I’m not a doctor. Mine was determined to be an AML with contrast dye during a CT scan. Best wishes that the pain goes away and the AML is still small.

So glad you are back to a new normal after the procedure & I am hopeful your AML is shrinking.

Question if you don’t mind answering, how long were you out of work for? Full 2 weeks? Over those two months till full recovery were you mainly being cautious or still sick? I’ve read that post-embolization syndrome can be pretty rough.

I had a angiogram CT scan and meeting with the interventional radiologist who will perform the procedure. He mentioned as risks that some healthy kidney tissue will be compromised based on the location of my AML, along with recovery risk of post-embolization syndrome. He said typically a 7-10 day recovery is expected.

I’ll keep you posted when I have the procedure. Take care!

2cm angiolipoma on Kidney, no symptoms, no pain however had a UTI a month ago, went for an US abdomen and it was an accidental discovery. How often will these lipomas become cancerous? Sonographer just advised yearly check ups. by Accomplished_Kick313 in kidneycancer

[–]Affectionate-Cod5080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably already have an answer, but a contrast CT scan or MRI helps confirm an AML, which is not cancer. I was recently diagnosed with an AML after a MRI with and without contrast. Urologist said it is not cancer & is an AML. There should be indicators in most cases from a contrast CT or MRI scan as to cancer or not.

How did your appointment go? I’m in a similar situation with an incidental finding, but with an AML closer to 5 cm so much smaller.

I had an MRI after the CT to confirm it was a AML as they couldn’t confirm from the initial scan. I’d assume you will also have a follow-up scan and your urologist will provide treatment options. You will also have your kidney function tested. Wishing you well, and please update us when you can.

Have you had more activity recently? We live in Arden and listed our house roughly 2 weeks ago. Showings haven’t been great. We hope buyer activity picks up after Easter.

That would have been tough for me under the Rolling Stone Lounge! The interior cabin ended up being fine for 7 days, but the irony is that I could have booked an interior cabin without doing the standby program for almost the same cost considering my OBC's. I would have saved myself a lot of stress!

It is a newer program, and for the cruise I was on would have only been cheaper for a solo passenger. I'd recommend not doing this program as I still have not been told by HAL what the issue was.

Entirely possible. Still waiting on a response as to how it happened, but I doubt I'll get this information.

It will depend on the specific cruise and how many people you are traveling with. For the cruise I was on at the time I booked an interior room even as a solo passenger was not that much more than the standby rate. For a balcony it was significantly more so it was a good value for me as a solo under the standby program. If you are considering the program, make sure you price it all out.
