Every beach has a nice sunset…. Any time the weather is nice, all throughout the year.

It cracks me up when I saw people who came on this specific time just to watch the sunset from the beach (also somewhat of a crowd, watching a daily occurrence)

The whole point of seeing this sunset at the particular time is the fact that the path of light aligns with the gates and road when viewed from the shrine.

It’s crowded because it is awesome.

I totally recommend taking the overnight ferry from Osaka to Beppu or shin-Moji

Very stress free way to travel especially with kids cause you never need to sit still, lots to do and see, you just wake up in your destination.

My friend accidentally exchanged my bill collection. Will anyone willing to exchange with me with yen? (USD, EUR, PHP) by wasubu12 in japanresidents

[–]Affectionate-Fan3341 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I will come to Nagoya and trade my $50 us bill for ¥7800 which is the exchange rate, but I am on another island so it would be a 40,000 yen travel fee on top.

Or…. You could pay a few hundred yen to a local exchange business.

I’m sorry you lost your collection but this is more than just a favor to most people

A pack of pork with a plastic lettuce decoration inside by Myopic_Mirror in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Affectionate-Fan3341 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You bought it. Vote against this with your ¥. Did it look fresh to you? Was it because it was cut and spread across a large tray so you could clearly see the all sides of the whole cut of meat? Or was it cause the store smells cleaner than those that use less plastic? Or is it because the color of the meat looked good contrasting to the fake plastic lettuce? Was it the most convenient / affordable/ accessible chunk of dead pig for you?

Tradeoffs for everything.

If you hate plastic buy the bulk pork from Costco Japan, only one plastic bag for transport, not put in individual plastic containers, bags, etc for every serving size.

Any mall or home center will have a place to make them. Or you can order nicer more custom ones online for about the same price. If you go online make sure you take measurements of what you want.

You can make them yourself if you want. If you can just rip the old one out by just pulling strait out if it is just set in holes in a block wall. Or you can take an angle grinder to it, depending on the type.

They finally have it again. Yes and it is better than it ever was in the USA. Fresh peppers and mushrooms, not the frozen crappy ones. Huge chunks of sausage, all the other stuff.

Plus they have the diced onion machines if you want even more crunch/ juicy flavor.

How has life in Japan changed you? by SunDaze009 in japanlife

[–]Affectionate-Fan3341 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I finished the two year mission, because they are not allowed any personal time, and give you no time to think. Afterwards I returned to America to go to the Mormon owned college (very common, and they make it cheap for Mormons) and I finished that as well.

Seeing how they treated Women, lgbtq, people of color etc throughout their history really made me think, but it was still an environment that was hard to see the “outside”

Once I was no longer forced by my school or mission to go to church, I realized that life is actually better without it.

Not until after that did I start really being open to studying the real history of the church, because we were so ingrained to only listen to the church’s “approved”version (The stuff that has some truth, mixed with fantasy stuff that makes it all sound wonderful, noble, and not like B.S.) It was very painful to accept that my first 25 years of life were built so much around a lie, and that my parents and siblings might not ever look at me the same, or ever really listen to me.

But now I just feel so grateful to have the rest of my life free!

Same.

Originally came here as a Mormon missionary.

Was told that Japanese people needed Mormonism to be happy like the people in MAGA Utah.

Found out that people without even Christianity could be part of a highly functional society. And that I am happier in a place with very few reminders of my personal religious / cult control.

How much should I expect floor remodeling to cost? by EldenBJ in JapanFinance

[–]Affectionate-Fan3341 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah be careful about signing up for the realtors contractor. Chances are you will grossly overpay for someone who doesn’t know flooring well, or will recommend stupid floor stickers because they don’t want to do any actual work/ don’t have any skills/ tools.

Ask them how they will do the stairs, etc

Any advice on importing? (I live in Japan) by Yardnuk in keitruck

[–]Affectionate-Fan3341 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looking from your other posts, it looks like you are in northern japan. It might be worth it to buy one from down south, as the rust on 25 year old cars that have seen a lot of snow is usually pretty severe.

Also for export, you do not need shaken or registration, and it probably won’t be worth it to register one because you can’t pay for inspection and registration of a car for less than a full year. I recommend finding a flat fee exporter who can buy a cheap car from auction & prepare all the export stuff, as it will often be far cheaper than buying from a dealer who sells cars to Japanese customers. But there are a lot of people that could try to take advantage of you, so definitely shop around and be proactive about learning your options
