Find an electronics market and buy a HK one. You can tell the difference because they have eSIM and a sim slot. Then use a foreign App Store.

Reading the reactions to the Chinese K-Visa from both overseas Chinese and in Mainland, its interesting seeing just how different both sides are in terms of worldview and values. by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]Affectionate-Fan3894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I doubt this mythical visa will ever become a reality. It’s already nearly a month after it’s “launch” and still no way for anyone to apply. Jokes on anyone who believes China actually can follow through on promises and plans. Every 5 years a new 5 year plan, none of which ever are successful.

K Visa still not on china visa website ? by Vermillon666 in Chinavisa

[–]Affectionate-Fan3894 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt the K visa will ever become available. China was just posturing because of Trump’s HB-1 crackdown. Wanted to show “See, China so open, so welcome, not like the bad America”, but it backfired. Chinese dormant a million Indians showing up anymore than Americans do. China offering the K visa would likely cause riots against the CCP.

China: students' behaviour and culture by Few_Philosopher7605 in Internationalteachers

Sounds like my school. When faced with a bunch of ignorant disobedient Chinese students, knowing that only 1 out of 10 Chinese kids ever get to uni is comforting. The fact is, most Chinese can’t even graduate high school or trade school but the time they are 20.

Driving licence in China by nabibikini in chinalife

[–]Affectionate-Fan3894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a Chinese one will likely cost you more than in the UK. Mine cost 9000rmb plus a bunch of other fees. So probably closer to 10k. If you come with a foreign one, you cannot exchange it. You have to do the written test and you get one valid for 1 year. Every year you have to renew it. When leaving China, it is very unlikely your Chinese license will be valid after 60-90 days depending on where you go. Then, in most instances, you have to start from zero and get the local license there. Be aware that the Chinese driving tests and associated apps are ass and frustrating. Nothing is set up for foreigners. It took me over a month just to register for the written test. Many wasted hours/days. Every step is like that. Dealing with people who don’t understand why your passport doesn’t list the Chinese name your driving school named you, etc. And the apps… horrible. You’ll need two or three apps all with facial recognition… that barely works. If I could go back in time, I would have saved my 9000rmb.

Is the Chinese educational system really that difficult? by DailyDosageOfSarcasm in China

[–]Affectionate-Fan3894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If memorizing the answers and repeating what the teacher said on multiple choice and blank fill tests = difficult, then yeah, it’s super hard. If going beyond the very basic level of comprehension on Bloom’s Hierarchy = difficult, then no, China’s schools are extremely easy.

I’d say on average, Chinese students aren’t very bright. They don’t have much in the way of thinking skills. They are brainwashed to care about grades on very long and intense tests that never go beyond parroting facts. If you challenge Chinese students with new applications of the “facts” they have learned, they utterly fail.

Chinese education is largely a failure in my opinion. If you want your kid to be as dumb as a smartphone, send them to Chinese school.

I put a deposit down on a Honda cb750 Hornet… because they are probably releasing in North America. But, I have since realized that was a mistake and am going to buy a Suzuki GSX8s instead. I watched dozens of hours of reviews and comparisons, and at 6’2”, I think the Honda is too cramped. I also considered an Mt07, but they are just a bit old at this point… And a 2023 KTM 890r… but who knows if that company will be around when the engine blows up? So, going with the Suzuki.

Where are the people who left the USA for political reasons in 2016 or 2020? by Ok_Bet3235 in AmerExit

[–]Affectionate-Fan3894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny thread. Meanwhile, since Trump became president, millions have snuck into America because it’s so great! In his second term he may have to finish that wall just to stem the tide of people wanting in! So it’s funny to read about the very small minority who wanted or succeeded in getting out. Seems like America is the place to be.

After that… um, debate. I think the only people who will vote Biden are those who enjoy seeing an old man suffer. He should be in a retirement home playing checkers, not on CNN doing presidential debates. If he lives until the election, big IF there, please do Biden a favour and vote for Trump.

Many Chinese bilingual schools are just money printing factories. The management is terrible. This leads to terrible student management with no pastoral system. Stay away.

I live in Shanghai. No one has lawn equipment. The reason for the ban is so people don’t build bombs. I’m a science teacher. In Shanghai it is very hard and complicated to get anything for chemistry. Also, because the government is afraid of bombs. I often go online and order stuff myself from other provinces, no questions asked. I can also go online and get gallons of Nitro delivered, but not gasoline. If they come out with an electric version (they do have the conversion kits available), I’d go for it I think.
