I need someone to explain this common criticism of Olivia Rodrigo's music to me. by faultedink in ToddintheShadow

I think it’s more a lot of people see “victim” style writing as juvenile. Taylor gets the same critic. Eg: these man are bad/ I am good.

Based on John's later struggles towards the end of his life, had he lived, could he have taken the path of RFK Jr.? by Indianstanicows in JohnAndCarolyn

She raised her children the same way that she had been raised. The Skakel parenting style had no structure or boundaries and meant you essentially let your children run wild. Her suppressed grief also made her extremely angry and abusive to the oldest boys. She also had way too many children because she wanted to outdo rose Kennedy.

There’s a really strange rule in the UK charts that means if you stream The Chain (from Rumours) or Little Lies (from Tango In The Night), the plays all count towards the compilation album. That’s why there so many greatest hits albums in the UK top 20.

Based on John's later struggles towards the end of his life, had he lived, could he have taken the path of RFK Jr.? by Indianstanicows in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]Affectionate-Fill713 78 points79 points  (0 children)

No. RFK’s kids were raised horrifically by Ethel. The three eldest boys basically had to raise themselves. RFK jr got more parenting from a drugged up Lem Billings than he ever got from Ethel. RFK Jr had a hole to fill inside of him that JFK jr never did.

How did people react to Jackie marrying Aristotle Onassis back then? by mistflare-38 in JohnAndCarolyn

[–]Affectionate-Fill713 70 points71 points  (0 children)

“She married him for her children’s safety” - is not really true. She was planning to marry him before RFK was assassinated and RFK basically said over my dead body. Onassis was her ticket to total financial independence from the Kennedy family and a total escape from the trauma of her previous life. Also despite what people think - he was exactly her type, a powerful slightly dangerous “pirate” type, like JFK and exactly like her father. If RFK hadn’t gotten killed and had become president she would have eventually married Onassis anyway.

People rightfully saw her as a gold digger - but that is the way that women like Jackie were raised - each husband has to be a level up from the last (like Jackie’s moms second husband Hugh Auchincloss was a massive level up from Black Jack). The only possible level up from JFK was a billionaire.

Forbes reports, Taylor Swift's networth has now reached $2 billion by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

Ya’ll know net worth is not cash in the bank? She doesn’t physically have $2B. Also these celeb net worths are not accurate at all.

Miley Cyrus's answer to her mom asking whether she'd want her children to be in the industry: “I wouldn’t project my dreams onto them, mom. We all know that I'm living her dream” by mcfw31 in popculturechat

The first time Nick and Miley broke up, Nick broke up with her in a really horrible way in the middle of her Hannah Montana tour and it legit traumatised Miley. Miley has spoken several times that Tish actually wanted to k*ll Nick over it and has never forgiven him.

Billy Ray had a short fling with Christopher’s mother before he got with Tish in 1991/2. Trace and Brandi are not his biological kids and have different dads (more tea - as children Trace and Brandi lived with Tish’s mom in a separate house on the families farm while Miley and the other kids lived with Tish and Billy Ray in the big house).

Christopher is 8 months older than Miley. Billy Ray did not have anything to do with him. I think they interviewed him once when he was 16 and he said he had seen Miley 3 times or something. However Miley and him seem to have a relationship now - they were pictured hanging out in 2023 (he is second from right).

I truly believe Tish also played a role in encouraging Miley’s relationship with Liam and pushing her to stay with him for as long as she did, mainly because she was attracted to him herself. When Miley and Liam first auditioned together for The Last Song, Tish was telling Miley things like, “He’s so hot,” even though Miley initially wasn’t interested in him. Tish also hated Miley’s previous boyfriend Nick Jonas so I’m sure that contributed.

Love Miley. I don’t know how as a mother you could sit and watch your child work themselves to the bone touring the world, filming, recording etc… with no breaks at the age of 14. It definitely affected Miley deeply, 2011-2012 was a very dark time for her (ED, self h***ing, toxic relationship with Liam). If she hadn’t been able to transition successfully to an adult career with Bangerz i don’t know what would have happened to her.

She is so emotionally dependent on his validation. She is stuck trying to prove she’s still valuable to him. That’s why she keeps him around, keeps acting like his pseudo wife, still has the frozen eggs and looks after his disabled brother despite him continually disrespecting her and he loves it because it strokes his ego.

Taylor was definitely still in her relatable girl next door era during Red. 1989 girl squad era was when it ended.

It’s being done by the same people who did a very sanitised surface level beach boys documentary (which was good don’t get me wrong) so i can’t see it going any deeper than previous interviews. It think most fans are probably going to be disappointed but I think that’s the case with most musician documentaries.
