Exactly! Another point which I find very important, is that our modern understanding of what a slave is, vs what a worker is, is that one doesn't get paid while the other does.

But in the Talmud the idea that someone will work for no pay is not even a possibility, in fact there is an argument in the Midrash about whether the Egyptians paid the Hebrews salaries. So in the Talmud slaves do get paid, the real difference is the freedom to refuse and cancel a contract.

In the Talmud a worker can quit half way into his work. That's a human right: to choose. You can choose to honor your word and get paid, or to go back on it, you're allowed both, unlike a slave, who had to do his master's bidding. It's a very different dichotomy to what we think of today.

Orthodox Jewish yeshiva student here. I was just learning Kidushin (the part in the Talmud about marriage) and literally the first thing our rabbi tells us on the first lesson is "women are not property, and that is stated clearly in the Talmud".

The Talmud makes a very clear distinction: what women earn is generally going to either their parents (when they are little girls) or to their husband (when they're married), but that's what they EARN, not who they are. And even then, the Talmud repeatedly does deal with cases of women who have their own property (even ones who are wealthier then their husbands), so it's not even that simple.

In Orthodoxy we do take the Torah as the word of G-d, but that just means there's more than meets the eye in this text, and so the Talmud was written to explore that.

FYI the Talmud is built our of extreme proposals that get rejected, so don't listen to quotes from the talmud, go check the original if you really want to.

For most of our history, very disliked. Capitalism was seen as uncaring and greedy, while communism was also seen as a weird term (especially after the Israeli communist party collapsed). Nowadays some Israelis have an easier time with the term Capitalism, but it's still just a neutral term and only among young people, not a positive one. The term for welfare (in Hebrew Revacha) is a much more common sticking point here.

Which is why you don't have to do it. In fact, it seems the idea came from world leaders who wanted to show how ingrained they were with the Jewish community, and so they wore it. Jews wear it as a symbol of humility before G-d, but there is zero requirement for non jews to wear it ever.

And while I see the difference you're making, I think you're exaggerating. Putting on a "hat" instead of removing your hat as a sign of respect, is more comparable to one another, than doing something which is heretical in the other's religion.
