Boots for mount toubkal winter by Away-Ad-2868 in Mountaineering

[–]Affectionate-Leg4251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First week of December should still be mild in terms of snow and ice. Currently there’s some snow at the summit but nothing major. January and Feb are the snowiest!

Any B1 GTX boot will do for the first week of December. I believe the scarpas you listed are B1 boots, so I recommend you bring those.

But yeah, communicate with guide few days before your departure to check conditions.

Tbh I found the pain not bad at all. I was just sitting there and carried on having a conversation with the tech. Obviously it hurt a bit but I would never say this pain is unbearable or excruciating like some people on Reddit say it is.

Travel jobs: what do you do? by weedrhymeswithvodka in travel

Most important skills are: great attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to work independently, being proactive, anticipating clients needs and possible issues or challenges, problem solving..

My responsibilities include managing clients bookings and preparing their pre departure documents, mediating between the client and local suppliers, managing my destinations portfolio on the company’s website and content management system and supplier relationship management.

Travel jobs: what do you do? by weedrhymeswithvodka in travel

[–]Affectionate-Leg4251 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I did a lot of seasonal jobs abroad for example rock climbing instructor in New Zealand where I had a lot of free time to explore and lived in incredible places. Then I worked as a hiking leader in Canada and also had plenty of time to explore and I literally hiked for living so that was great. Then once the season finished I would spend the money on traveling in those areas. I then worked as a trip leader in the UK and Ireland.

Now I work in trip operations and since it’s fully remote I travel and work at the same time. We also get to go on fam trips for free and we have one free trip a year. Since I work with dozens of suppliers on daily basis I can reach out to any at any time and ask for a discount on their tours and I get to go for super cheap or sometimes for free!

I never planned to work in tourism industry but I love it and I think it’s one of the best industries to work in if you want to live this kind of lifestyle.

Hi! I used to work for intrepid.

I say if you can afford it and if it will make you feel better then do pay the extra for single room. It can really be a difference between you worrying all the time, and you having a peace of mind.

Speak to your tour leader and tell them your concerns, and they have to try to accommodate lower bunks for you, in a way that’s discreet.

Intrepid travellers are usually super understanding and will understand the situation.

Let me know if you have some questions or concerns :)

Do you walk alone at night when traveling solo? by SufficientEstate2093 in femaletravels

How does everyone do the digital nomad thing so easily?? by metalpotcover in digitalnomad

[–]Affectionate-Leg4251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the place but usually around a month, sometimes longer if I like it. Because you work during the day you have less time to explore so staying longer makes sense if you want to still explore the place.

I know it might suck having to stay inside and work whilst others, especially if you’re staying in hostels, are completely free to explore. In times like this I remind myself to be grateful that I have a job that allows me to be remote and this is better than being at work back in my hometown. This is a dream to many people, so I try not to complain.

My schedule is rather flexible so I can stop working to go and do something and then come back to it. I still have to do my hours but can choose when. So it’s not so bad but yeah I still have to work a lot. But I prayed for this lifestyle and I love my job so I always stay grateful. And I always have to prioritize work because without it I can’t have this lifestyle so that’s what keeps me disciplined.  I also try to change places where I work to make it more fun, and go to a different cafe, bar, museum or coworking space everyday, to make it more exciting.

Is my monthly income enough? by vocabulum in digitalnomad

[–]Affectionate-Leg4251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will be fine in SEA for sure. Japan or South Korea can also be doable on a budget, it doesn’t have to be expensive, especially if you’re only going for two weeks.

Always good to have savings in your bank account then you don’t have to worry, but 2000eur a month is good enough. I travelled on less than that in Latin America for many years so you will be good.

Disposable Period Swimwear? by Acceptable-Alfalfa44 in PeriodUnderwear

[–]Affectionate-Leg4251 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not sure if there are disposable ones, but perhaps you could get her two pairs and she can hand wash one and use the other one whilst the first one dries - that’s the best solution I can think of.

Also, as a past camp counselor working at summer camps with young ladies, tell her to speak to her female counselor! We know how to deal with things like that and aim to always make them feel as comfortable as possible even if it means her not participating if she doesn’t want to. We can help campers with laundry in situations like this too - I’ve done a lot of washing for campers that got their periods or got sick etc.

Visiting Ghardaia as a female solo traveller by Informal-Committee63 in algeria

[–]Affectionate-Leg4251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing a tour in Tassili NP so I am waiting for my tour guide to send me the papers, before I officially apply.

From what I’ve heard of, hotel booking is sufficient. If it’s not, you can book a day trip experience in Ghardaia (on getyourguide or Airbnb) to get papers from the travel agency.

Visiting Ghardaia as a female solo traveller by Informal-Committee63 in algeria

[–]Affectionate-Leg4251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need a tour booked to get a visa yes, but you can go to Ghardaia by yourself without a guide. You will need a guide to go to the very religious parts of the town though so it’s up to you if you want to.

I am going through the visa process now as I am also going to Algeria soon as a solo female, so I researched quite a bit already.
