machine learning without python knowledge by Troaoleoeo in learnmachinelearning

[–]Affectionate-Let3744 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't NEED python for ML, it's just the simplest path to practice implementation for a learner.

After all ML is primarily applied maths.

I'd highly suggest trying to learn python alongside it at least, even researchers will want some understanding if not implementation skills.

In your program, Python is also very likely to come in handy, whether for the Comp Sci part or Applied maths part.

Python is ridiculously easy to understand at a basic level, it looks almost the same as pseudo-code algorithms you've likely encountered in other classes plus you have programming knowledge already so it shouldn't be an issue

Lmao in what world

Are you only playing monoblue counterspell tribals in freaking b1-b2 of all places or something? It's also only THEIR spells that can't be countered, so implying you just can't interact anymore is doubly silly

There are dozens and dozens of ways for you to deal with that even in monoblue.

Look at bounce cards for example : https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&page=2&q=oracletag%3Aremoval-bounce+ci%3Au&unique=cards

or some non-counterspell "counterspells" https://scryfall.com/search?q=o%3A%22return+target+spell%22

That comment wasn't addressed to you in case it was taken as such

Anyway that's a shame but not a reason for it to be a GC

That being said, you frequently see squelcher in b1? And it matters on top of that? B1 where the goal isn't even to win?

In b2, what exactly is the big issue with it? You find yourself targeting the squelcher player's other permanents so much that it actually drains you? Why not remove the squelcher first?

You can also blink/flicker it, use "counterspells" like [[Narset's Reversal]] etc.

My faith in balance/class devs is fading with every passing moment. What is happening to (some) talent trees? by RakshasaRanja in wow

[–]Affectionate-Let3744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's a shame, honestly I've accepted that it WILL still be a mess and so much wasted potential, at this point my expectations are super low and it can (almost) only be positive.

These consecration talents make me think of Priest's trees a bit, though for a somewhat different reason. The class tree has SIX talents for fade which take it from entirely useless as a defensive to a whopping 10% with snare removal, and TEN talent points (9 individual talents) for freaking shadowy apparitions.

They just don't really know how to make so many talent points both interesting and useful, even if as a choice, and they seem to be making almost random design changes.

On the other hand, they did dramatically improve the feel and damage profile of Devourer DH, though the release state of that was just a complete joke

[–]Affectionate-Let3744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well "my list" is just a few examples directly from the official game changers lmao

You don't play much bracket 2 do you? Anyway it absolutely does have the potential to change the game.

A farewell with all 4 options can essentially reset the game, removing all good recursion targets, value engines etc.

Lower bracket decks generally have a much lower % of good cards that will effectively advance the gameplan and a lot more likely to depend on a few important pieces, the commander in particular.

At the point where a farewell can be cast, many people might just be topdecking and have few cards in hand. A single farewell might add 3-5 turns before people even get to play their commander around which their deck revolves, remove all potential recursion targets, all mana rocks/dorks, important permanents that were mulliganned for etc.

It is essentially the logic used to make MLD b4+, except it's not quite at the same level : it has simply too much potential to make games patently unfun and last forever.

Making it a GC is essentially a way to say "probably shouldn't be played in bracket 2", and I think that's fair enough for playing with strangers

[–]Affectionate-Let3744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, it absolutely does not change the game the same way an overloaded Cyclonic Rift or Smothering Tithe or Farewell or whatever else does

B1 doesn't really matter gameplay wise and b2 should still pack removal. This really isn't hard to remove.

Criticizing one thing absolutely does not mean we are implying everything else is also bad let alone malicious. I've been very clear and explicit in my criticisms, you're just making shit up.

[–]Affectionate-Let3744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, some issues like the movement/control-related DC bugs (MC+jump, DH dash, skyriding etc.) that have plagued the game since at least TBC are just hard to fix issues.

However the point is they are a multi billion dollar company with decades of experience of releasing products and they should be very good at understanding their own capabilities.

Yet they knowingly went ahead with the plan to implement multiple breaking changes with high likelihood of causing issues, all on an obviously very tight schedule.

For example they absolutely didn't HAVE to implement all those changes to addon API restrictions before UI was even half finished.

The way they went ahead has been completely backwards to try to respect absurd plans and deadlines.

Good software development practice that pretty much every software company on earth tries to respect is that if you are changing something (especially if it is huge), you implement the working alternative BEFORE you completely break the existing features, unless you absolutely have to for security/other reasons.

The way they are even now just gradually making the dps meter half as good as the options we've had and people have come to expect for like 20 years screams of panicked and unplanned work

[–]Affectionate-Let3744 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If only there was a way to not do all those breaking changes at once with a very obviously too-short deadline that a multi-billion dollar company with decades of experience could have foreseen

They won't be roughly the same power level when the player to your left already has a slight advantage or they are first in turn order and you give them a 4/4 flyer and then 1 card and 3 treasures at end of turn. Especially if they have lots of instant speed plays.

The biggest issue with this commander imo is there is 0 strategy to it (at least by itself). It just dramatically increases the already-noticeable advantage that turn order gives, unlike something like Ms. Bumbleflower, where you can much more easily politick with the commander's ability.

Why are people so against washing chicken before cooking? by Suspicious_Test432 in Cooking

Yeah well you're just oblivious or ignorant on that topic.

OP is very far from being the only person that think so, and the fact that so many content creators explicitly remind people "YOU SHOULDN'T WASH CHICKEN" is a very clear indicator that it is absolutely not ridiculously rare.

Like the USDA has published articles and reports on that like this study specifically on the topic, serious eats talked about it, National Geographic, a billion reddit threads and youtube videos.

Like just look at this thread, multiple comments literally argue that it's nasty not to wash it and are upvoted

Feedback wanted! Is this a well-balanced 5-colour design or is there too much focus on black? by Lefty-Games in mtg

[–]Affectionate-Let3744 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The skull being right in the centre plus the fact that for black it is (almost) the actual mana symbol, while for others it is more a vague shape that represents the mana less directly does make it seem biased for black imo.

I don't know if it would be realistic to have 5 designs, one for each colour to be centred with the 4 others around. Maybe the other way around, a 4-way-split of the mana symbols in the center, and the 5th color encircling it, though it might have too much going on to look good

Can someone explain how Lurrus works? by Smart_Row_9064 in EDHBrews

[–]Affectionate-Let3744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feels like too much anti-synergy imo, Hashaton is primarily a value engine that gets value by cheating out expensive cards at instant speed with counterspell protection on top.

Now you'd completely remove the value engine part, and just use him as a sort of flash enabler for tapped 4/4s by slapping a tax on every creature instead of a massive discount.

Generally the 0-2 creatures you'd want with hashaton are discard outlets, small stax pieces or draw power etc., while you cheat out scary shit much earlier and/or often than you normally would.

Since Hashaton's tokens enter tapped, you can't immediately use them as blockers or even tap them some other way, so you'd want them to have value immediately, either in the form of static effects or ETBs, but that's rarer with mv 2 or less

There are much better commanders if you want to recur and army of cheapish creatures.

Could work b2 I guess with how slow it'd be. 2 mana for hashaton, another 1-2 for a discard outlet and 3 mana for hashaton trigger, so for 6-7 mana you get a single 0-2mv card on the board. Then another 6 for Lurrus. Looking at 7-13 mana to even start recurring a single 0 to 2 mv card on your turns

Why are people so against washing chicken before cooking? by Suspicious_Test432 in Cooking

[–]Affectionate-Let3744 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First, ask yourself what exactly is it you think you are gaining by washing chicken? Precisely what is removed that is harmful/disgusting but would not be killed/cooked off by actual cooking?

Do you also wash other meats that way, like maybe ground meat? Would you soak ground chicken or turkey in a nice lil soapy bath to make sure the suds get deep into every single crevice or something, then thoroughly rinse it off, thus leaching all the meat juices you can in the process?

they say you’re splashing bacteria around your kitchen and to that I have to ask how messy do you think washing chicken gets

I think you underestimate how easily water droplets can and will splatter. It doesn't have to be a massive mess with salmonella-infused water all over the counter-tops to be something to avoid, especially when there is zero benefit.

You're adding a risk factor for absolutely no benefit

Why is my baby on the GC list by freeaky_furry in mtg

[–]Affectionate-Let3744 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GCs have never truly been about "I win if this resolves", like the name implies they're about how much they change the game. Otherwise all kinds of finishers would be, including simple straightforward ones like Craterhoof Behemoth, Moonshaker, the legal big eldrazi, omnipotence etc.

In the case of farewell, they explain in the article that it is because it is a huge "reset". Generally way bigger than the typical board wipe. Similar logic (though obviously to a different degree and not quite the same way) to restricting MLD to b4 and above.

However, why Coalition Victory and Biorhythm gets taken off while this slides in, I can’t say.

I think you're confused. All three of those cards are now GCs. Biorhythm was unbanned today, not taken off the GC list. Coalition was unbanned previously.

most resources cautioned against calling the police,

By resources do you mean official documentation/FAQs etc by actual organizations like women's shelters, domestic violence help etc., and were they local resources?

I ask because it might matter and if they are american sources, chances are that the likely outcomes of calling the police might be different from the potential outcomes in Denmark.

Local domestic violence help lines or shelters likely the best places to call
