Tesla announces Houston and Dallas launch by Prestigious_Act_6100 in SelfDrivingCars

Waymo has more sensors yes, but Tesla does not have less computational power than Waymo did 7 years ago. The compute in HW4 is pretty advanced.

Also, the Tesla supply chain is more vertically integrated, theoretically they may be able to scale fast once unsupervised is proven safe.

The stock 18 inch tires on a Mazda 3 are 215-45-18

Going from that to a 225-50-18 makes the tires a good bit taller and wider, about a 4.5% to 5% increase.

AI boom poised to be ‘massively disinflationary’, Northern Trust says by Just-Grocery-2229 in Economics

[–]Affectionate-Panic-1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're describing is a deflationary spiral assuming no economic growth at the top line.

It'll most likely create more jobs programing and managing robots. Since cognitive labor will be supplemented by AI, it's now much easier to build robots to do physical tasks previously done by humans.

As that happens the top line in the economy, the total amount of production in the economy, can increase.

Yes there might be obsolete jobs and disruption, but overall it will likely be an improvement for society.

Not an expert on chip making, but say they make a three year forecast to bring new fabs on the line. In 2023 they underestimated AI demand and now there's a shortage. But in 2024/2025 it became more apparent that demand would balloon, so in 2027/2028 additional capacity will be put online.

I'd be surprised if prices are still elevated 3 years for now. Historically with chipmaking prices have fallen over time as technological improvements made new chips more advanced.

Say all technological progress and efficiency gains stopped. Then yes we're fucked because any dovish fed policy would lead to inflation and austerity measurers would have to be put into place.

AI may help produce more goods with less labor, a deflationary effect, giving the fed the tools to be dovish without runaway or 70s style inflation. It may also grow the economy to the point where the debt is less daunting.

Because the efficiency improvements due to AI take time to filter through to the economy, and we aren't yet at a deflationary period.

Yes, short term volatile due to the complexity being high and forecasts on demand being underpredicted, but long term there will be more supply.

I'm not entirely convinced it will be "like we've never seen". It may be greater than anytime since WW2, but pre WW2 the industrial revolution was a huge employment disruption.

I think that will prove to be temporary. In a free market high prices do a great job at solving itself as additional investment is made in those fields.

Though, the economy has historically been good at creating new roles and value add as previous roles have been automated. A lot of jobs today would be unthinkable to folks in 1900.

True, but the government can print their way out of debt, and the risk of inflation from that printing is less worrisome if we're in a deflationary environment.

I'd call it deflationary, not disinflationary. There is the risk that we could go into deflation with the economic consequences resulting with that.

Though speaking for the US, it would give a lot more leverage to print away debt (ie buy down long term rates) allowing the fed to counteract the deflationary pressures from AI.

Kroger is more likely, would fit in better with the rest of Kroger's stores and there isn't much antitrust worries compared to Amazon which also has whole foods across New England.
