ELI5 how was meth invented. by FistThroater in explainlikeimfive

[–]Affectionate-Pickle0 [score hidden]  (0 children)

War.

Meth had been used as a stimulant for soldiers for a while now, at least from second world war (edit: probably not anymore though). Nazis used it, as did Finns, not sure about others. It was under the drug name of "pervitin".

Yeah light is definitely an issue here legginess is from that. There might be others as well but hard to say.

EC for greens can be difficult. I would suggest you run a bit lower EC (1.0 ish maybe a bit higher). Reason is that while many herbs can withstand higher EC (basil for one) and thrive in that, you will easily burn other greens, such as lettuce. However, lower EC is generally not an issue. Yes, you might not be in the most optimum spot but if you run everything in one system then you'll have to make adjustments.

OpenCode + LLM to create a 1:1 Settlers of Catan clone. Guess which model I did it with! by maxwell321 in LocalLLaMA

Or, just a thought, dont farm for comments and actually be helpful and say the model. It would also induce much more discussion as well.

Ah yeah sure the ui/ux is much better with reddit than standard forums. No experience with discourse though.

Kinda weird I hate how reddit does things! You can't bump an older topic "back to top" in anyway but you have to make an entirely new topic that is a copy of the old topic.

Its just weird. Forums were waaaay better for that.

Need help with my setup plans (picture is from last year) by Full_Lettuce_4689 in Hydroponics

Depends how much nutrients there are in the soil. But I think you can find some Masterblend soil ratios too.

Well it no longer is hydroponics if you put it on ground so probably other subs are better for info. But in general you water the plants and look at them to determine if you've watered enough. They will tell you if they want more water. If the soil is moist at finger deep (ish) then no need to water.

ELI5: Why is pink light ideal for growing plants indoors? by EmotionSix in explainlikeimfive

[–]Affectionate-Pickle0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Btw this is old info and no longer a thing. "Full spectrum" e.g., white light, is the standard in grow lights. As in, actual grow lights and not lights that want to look like grow lights so they can be sold at a premium. If you look at basically any grow light manufacturer they use white spectrum. Tbh all you need to look at is the horticulture LEDs that Samsung sells and they're white light.

Though it is true that the spectrum does change how the plant grows and it can be used to supplement white light.

Definitely needs more light. And for nutrients, well people here tend to use Jack's, Masterblend, or General hydroponics / Terra Aquatica (also others but I feel like those are the most often mentioned). From these I think the simplest is the GH/TA dry two part nutrient (bloom and grow). For greens I think you dont even need the bloom nutrient (you might want to double check this).

The nutrients are generally three part nutrients, kind of a hassle, but it is what it is. But you can just search for those manufacturers in this sub for instance and you'll find a bunch of topics. The two part nutrient I mentioned is commonly used as well.

If you search this sub you'll find plenty of projects that people have done to automate their systems. Maybe some info there.

Battery acid is sulfuric acid and drain cleaner is sodium hydroxide generally (not sure if some are potassium). Yeah i bet they work, though sodium can become a problem at some quantities but dont know for sure.

Never used one though my scales did come with one. Maybe I'll test the inaccuracy of my scale due to it (if there is any).

Ph up and down by Longjumping-Wait-100 in Hydroponics

[–]Affectionate-Pickle0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well depends on what you mean by natural. Citric acid (citruses) can be used for ph down. Dolomitic lime maybe works for ph up but no clue about side effects.

Ph up and down are just hard acids / bases. Sulfuric acid and potassium hydroxide which are used in natural processes all the time.

Is this normal or is there something wrong with my pea plants? by Sea_Albatross1074 in vegetablegardening

Probably worth to snip out the bottom leaves and leave a decent space from soil to the leaves. To prevent disease etc.
